I think the biggest thing with these new “fishing kayaks” is that it just defeats the whole purpose of tournament kayak fishing. Most people join because it’s a simple entry level way to get into tournament fishing but now you’re just competing against literal mini bass boats
I’ve been watching this argument with interest from down under, my question for you Chad as a competition organiser is “at what point do you say enough is enough?” Is this acceptable to use in a kayak fishing comp? To me as an outsider watching the trends from the USA, there seems to be a lot fishing from fishing platforms, a kayak by definition is a human propelled watercraft which presents challenges like holding on station over fish. Peddle drive systems help offset these challenges and now we have electric motors. There’s a couple of additions to the new Bonafide which signal boat to me, the first being an added attachment point for winching onto a trailer, second is the transom setup for adding electric motors. As a yak fishing event organiser myself, who allowed the use of electric motors first in NZ and now regretting my decision and hope that kiwi anglers don’t follow the USA trend.
I’ve already put that out a ton. It’s within the same parameters we have use to accept the Hobie PA, BlueSky Boatworks 360, NuCanoe Unlimited, Jackson BigRig, etc. I already have the standards define in our rules and consider any “exceptions” or clarifications very carefully on a case by case basis.
I personally feel this issue is easily solved by categorizing or limiting the type of propulsion system rather than the type of kayak/boat used. The type of propulsion is what gives anglers an advantage/disadvantage in a tournament setting rather than the actual type of kayak/boat being used. Simply limit the type/size of propulsion system used or break them up by categories rather than focusing on the type of kayak/boat used.
I think the folks getting bent out of shape over this are the ones who (admittedly or not) are more concerned on how the industry is creating products that a trending towards the more affluent crowd. When I first started kayak fishing, it was because the barrier to entry (cost) was much lower than boat ownership. Tournaments weren't terribly expensive to enter and everyone for the most part, was on level playing field with equipment. The trend of bigger, bolder, more equipped fishing kayaks is following the trend of every grassroots sport that grows in exposure. At some point, the promotion of the market goes beyond what most people are able to experience. Those people view innovation as a form of gatekeeping and raise the flag in protest. To a degree, I agree but as an angler and business person, this is just silly. If a person is only able to engage in the community through what plastic boat their bottom is in, they are missing the point entirely. Fishing is the goal. How you chose to do it is irrelevant.
If that was the case I would tend to agree with them. But there may be a few that are concerned for that reason, but most are just wanting to crap on anything new. Not to mention, the development of more expensive products doesn’t “price people out” in fact the newer, more expensive stuff actually creates even better products at the lower end that are an even better value. There are more inexpensive kayaks now than when I started 30 years ago, and I’m not talking about “adjusted for the times or inflation”. I mean there are literally more and better kayaks NOW under $1000 than when I started kayak fishing. So, the “getting too expensive” argument is pretty much moot
4:52 Spot on. Hope this gets the attention it needs. So tired of the “it’s a boat” or “just get a boat at this point” comments. Just buy and use what you enjoy and don’t look down on someone for doing or buying what brings them happiness. There will always be people like that in every product tho. So it’s best to just roll with the punches.
Thought- Guys fishing from boats are called fisherman. Guys fishing from Kayaks are called kayak fisherman. Why?? If you take a kayak and give it all the attributes of a boat IE motors power anchors and such and making it a boat. Removing all the specialized skills needed to "kayak" fish. And then want to call yourself a kayak fisherman. It's not the same. Not saying better or worse just not the same
Your vehicle analogy is spot on. There are many different types of vehicles that people call ‘cars’. Likewise there are many different boats that people call kayaks. Is it worth losing sleep over a definition? I think not. You hit the nail on the head Chad.
I personally can't wait to load my fishing gear and my whole campsite on the XTR. It's gonna change the whole kayak camp fishing experience. Who cares what they call it, the multi role versatility of the XTR is exactly what I've been looking for. Excellent point about the separate categories.
Same dude! I'm about 90% there with my autopilot but the xtr looks like it will get it just a smidge closer! I've also considered an inflatable skiff lol
Just have Bonafide send one my way and I'll settle the debate once and for all 🤣 In all honestly, I think people in general, worry too much about what other people do. If you want to fish out of an XTR awesome. If you want to strap some 2x4's to a couple of 55 gallon drums, have at it! Just get out on the water and fish! That said, I'd love to see a 3 day tournament: Day 1 - standard rules, Day 2: No Motors, Day 3: No Motors or electronics. I'd be curious how the leader boards change.
Honestly, I see everyone can make a point on both sides. Honestly it doesn’t matter what you use if you’re a fisherman you’re a fisherman. We all use different tools and things to help us do what we love which is fishing. I use old town for a kayak and I absolutely love it. Honestly everyone should use what makes them happy on the water and safe.
There is a lot of tandem kayaks out there so that question doesn’t hold much validity. Nucanoe makes an open platform kayak that can be configured like a boat.
Great video. Where I’m different from Chad. Is that I’m a kayaker, but I’m kayaker that happens to fish off a kayak. I love to paddle. But with that said buy what you want. I understand why people want to use power. Especially tournament anglers. Be safe on the water and tight lines.
Very well said, Chad! A kayak, is a kayak, is a kayak, just like a fishing kayak, is a fishing kayak, is a fishing kayak. And, just the same, a kayak angler, is a kayak angler, is a kayak angler. It is amazing how the argument falls apart when you simply define the terms of the debate. I find it interesting that this debate really heated up only when Bonafide brought out the XTR 130. It did look pretty big in some of the early videos and pictures, but I am pretty sure my Titan-X 12.5 is longer than the XTR 130 and only one-half inch narrower. Does that make it a Jon boat? I don't think so. At least for me, it doesn't make a difference whether I call it a kayak, or boat, or vessel, or submarine, (Well maybe not submarine, that makes me shudder!). It is still a fishing kayak by definition, and I am an angler who fishes out of a kayak. I like how you cleared this up for everyone (maybe), as to what a fishing kayak is and what it is not. Keep up the good work!
Yes, I can paddle this as effectively or more effectively than tons of other “fishing kayaks” on the market. Again, you said it’s not a “kayak” which is the point of the video, that’s because it’s a “fishing kayak”. Thanks for the comment
@@Voisard13there are features built into that thing to make it easier to paddle. My autopilot is longer that this, and may actually be wider, and I've paddled that thing for miles when I forgot to charge my batteries. Is it fun? No lol. But it also wasn't miserable. Dude I've paddled pond prowlers. The XTR won't be that bad
Chad and myself have talked about human power vs electric motor for a very long time. We fished a tournament championship in Tampa one year where a manufacturer entered his boat in the kayak fishing tournament with no motor and had a partner push pole him around. He didn’t win. The winners actually cheated and the organizer got wasted and that series ended. But back to the story. I like to fish. Whatever makes me comfortable I’ll fish in. Whether it’s my Outback or my Pro Angler. Tight lines Chad.
It was never “all” man powered. I was one of the first tournament series and definitely the first to go nationwide and we have allowed motors from day one.
I absolutely agree with you. I once had a Hobie Fishing Kayak that I swapped out the pedals to troll motor. Chad, some people just want to stir up trouble.
I don’t fish out of a pwr because I’m a kayak guy. I fish out of a pwr because I’m a fishermen. It’s the best tool in my area to fish where I want to fish. The xtr will be the same type of tool. Who really cares what u call it. If u want a bass boat go buy one !! If u want a xtr go get it when available.
I think their should be different categories for kayak tournaments since not every kayak is equipped with or can be equipped with a motor or peddal drive. If your fishing on a 100 acre lake and some guy puts a 5 horse electric motor on his yak you cant go as far and as fast as he can with a paddle. A Johny bass 100 is classed as a kayak but functions more like a two man boat especially since its rated for a gass motor. Its just like kayak anglers dont compete against bank anglers or bass boats. Its not about barrier to entry its about keeping a fair competition. In drag racing you dont put jet cars against methanol cars. They have separate categories.
We are in a world where we have Karens want to label everyone and everything. That makes me sick. I have a cheap $400 Walmart plastic floating vessel that catches fish. If i enter it in a series like the "KNUKLHED" it becomes a "fishing kayak" when i get my Native Slayer propel, it might be pedal boat. But if i catch a bass , is it a bass boat lol 😆. Moreless ,if I enter any KBF events ...Its a freaking Fishing Kayak. Great video Chad!
It is a really interesting conversation, but I really don't care what it is called. The lines are always blurred, look at canoe vs kayak, kayak vs pond prowler vs plastic Jon boat vs small bass boat. I think it is awesome we have all these options. You should always get what fits your needs and budget to enjoy getting out and fishing. If this subject makes you angry, you should do some self-reflection. As a side note, growing up my parents always had a van. The last couple vehicles they bought were SUVs and referred to it as their van which drove my brother crazy.
I am just waiting for the aluminum hull kayak, a hybrid kayak/Jon boat for rivers and rocks to be made. I wore out my 2012 Jackson Coosa designed by Drew Gregory. The hull flexed and bounced off of rocks. It was a barge to paddle, but I had it on Lake Michigan, rivers, lakes, and creeks. That kayak was proof that you can make a bullet proof kayak out of plastic. My seat finally made a hole in it, and my body got to the point I was too old to paddle a barge. But, one day someone will say the only way to make a kayak hull river proof is to put a metal hull on it and a motor 🤷♂️that kayak is the closest I have seen to that to date in my opinion.
I’m going to get into kayak tournaments next year hopefully. For me fishing out of a kayak is cheaper than using my boat. I don’t want a motor on my fishing kayak. With that being said I would like to have a peddle drive in the future. Far as electrics, I have a lowrance 4”2d that’s portable on an old trolling motor Frame. And a 12v lithium battery. That’s all I need. I’m trying to up grade my lifetime to something better I can at least stand in, I’m 39 years old and sitting for long periods of time isn’t easy anymore lol. But one day I’ll up grade but for me a simple 12’ fishing kayak I can paddle is good enough for me. I don’t need all the ffs and motors. I catch 5-8 lbers now with out all that stuff. The market is going to answer to the customer and I’m pretty sure they aren’t going to do away with the basic fishing kayak for folks like me. God bless bro.
Really wanna skiff, lol so close! Off topic, but wish kayak builder's make a yak based on catfishing. The kayak catfishing sport is growing super fast!
Yep. I have 2 bonifide ss127's. I am a disabled vet. The swivel seat alone will help me physically. Let alone the room you get. I'm stoked cause this is set up out the gate for all fishermen, especially catfishing!
A skiff is any of a variety of essentially unrelated styles of small boats, usually propelled by sails or oars. Traditionally, these are coastal craft or river craft used for work, leisure, as a utility craft, and for fishing, and have a one-person or small crew. There, now you can decide…. 😜
Just like vehicles. Not all of them race or compete in any competition against each other. Are small boats with electric motors allowed in the same tournaments?
Your right, maybe me need do need to create a new class.. motorized fishing kayak. But thats me. i am constantly told my rig isnt a kayak any more since i added dual fully length outriggers. But at its center is a modern fishing kayak. The xtr is clearly not a bass buggy or a plastic jon boat.. The shape is all wrong... I think the closes fit would be ultra tiny (compared to modern 21 foot bass boats) bass boat. Just going off shape and layout. Just ignoring the whole size issues that you cleared up, It looks like a basss boat and fishes like a bass boat, but is to tiny to be a bass boat.
i honestly dont even know why people waste energy on if its a kayak or not? they got their priorities lost, I would assume its the same type of person that gets pissy when I show up to out fish them at my home lake
Ive owned a og wilderness system tarpon 120, cressent ultra light and now a nucanoe flint. all 3 of them i can cartop. maybe some of the new rigs costing 10k maybe kayaks still, but defeats the purpose a fishing kayak. if u need a boat launch to get going then maybe buy a bass boat...lol
It looks like it might have to be like automotive racing..... categories such as modified, standard, and customized. I had considered tournament Kayaking and I heard some fussing about trolling motor usage and that made me slam on the brakes. If I complete, I want to do so do so equally. Not rig a vessel to cheat. Then the issue of FFS became an issue and I slowly changed my mind. I can fish without a depth finder or a trolling motor. But I do like the ease of a trolling motor & I could get by without a fish finder or any electronics. As for now.... I'll put the whole idea on a back burner. When things get more stable, I'll reconsider then. Things now days are not like they used to be. Want to compete on an even level. That's where the real talent is
Call it what you want; I love fishing out of my Old Town Sportsman 106 Paddle Kayak. No motor, no peddles, no fish finder just my paddle. What a Blast!!!
I could care less what people call it as long as I’m out on the water fishing on it. Heck, in your First Look video of the XTR, both you and Hans called it a boat in the first 2 minutes 😮
Honestly if you can paddle it effectively over a decent distance without killing yourself then its a kayak, if you cant even paddle it a half mile or more then its probably not a kayak, i have a knarr and while its big it still perfroms well enough that i can paddle it a long distance with little issue
my jon boat identifies as a kayak. It's loaded with yakattack accessories. What I use on my kayak, I use on my jon boat, and that includes the kayak paddle. haha
I'll pile on too, have no gripe either way, got 2 'sit on' kayaks and a pontoon boat....I fish from all them, how does the stand up paddle boards or even the inflatable paddle boards not fall into that, why does fishing have to get dragged through the mud for some dumb stuff like this 'definition'
Oh, no one thought or will ever thing “everyone” is gonna do anything these days. There is a vast number of people and personalities out there that willl always shit on something just because it’s new or different
I draw the line at motorized. Fishing kayaks should be manually operated only, and that's why I got out of it and went back to a bass boat. Having a motorized kayak is just freaking lazy. All the best to you guys & gals, but until they separate out manual & powered in competition, I'm out.
It’s got NOTHING to do with lazy, it’s got to do with effectively managing boat position, covering water and catching more fish. Fishing kayaks “should” be whatever the owner of said fishing wants it to be to enjoy fishing from it. There won’t be a separation from competition. It’s kinda like the whole putting the Genie back in the bottle thing. I did six tournaments this year with a Paddle Only Division and zero people signed up.
My ONLY issue is at what point in terms of cost, limitations of use, and loss of convenience does a small powered boat become a much better choice in all respects than a kayak? Seriously speaking if it costs more than 50% as much a small used boat and motor you have to now trailer it like a small boat and motor and its 80-90% as difficult to store as a small boat and motor why not just buy a small boat and motor and be done. In MY opinion once a kayak becomes so large and heavy you loose all the advantages of ease of transport and storage a kayak has over a 12-14' boat and now your kayak is every bit as difficult to transport and store as a 12-14' boat again in my opinion just get a good used 12-14' used boat with a motor that a small boat has significantly more advantages to a fisherman than does a 12-14' kayak ever could Im not criticizing anyone's choices or purchases But in my opinion and for my $$$s before I spend $3-$4k on a kayak I still have to equip with additional equipment that will add another $1k-$1500 to its cost and still have all of the vary significant disadvantages a kayak has VS a small boat I'm buying a small boat and motor And yes I do own a 12" fishing kayak I have spent countless 100s of days fishing out of 10' and 12' boats and never fell out of a small boat or flipped a small boat and with a trolling motor or small gas motor covered huge areas of lakes very effectively I have been in more than a few canoes that got tipped on boundry water's canoe fishing trips and if you kayak long enough you will tip one or if you stand up in them fall out of one. My point is what is the point of owning a kayak with all of the same storage and transportation issues of a small boat but none of the very many and significant advantages of a small boat VS a kayak Again to each there own
I don’t think the cost is a solid argument either. For example, it’s like it someone buys a really nice Side By Side UTV and people say “just buy a small truck” when they aren’t the same thing and the UTV is more capable for what it is designed for. These fishing kayaks are much more effective at a lot of what they do than any (or most) small boats.
@@ChadHooverFishing I run an OT PDL 120 and that’s more than what I need but I wanted it and love it. So to clarify what I mean, it’s hard earned money to buy any fishing kayak so if whoever buys it gets what they want then it’s perfect even if it’s a Walmart job.
For the most part a kayak you sit inside. If you can’t put the kayak on your shoulders and pack it to the beach it’s not a kayak. Kayaks should be a fairly simple boat and not to heavy. Some of these fishing kayaks have more hardware than most boats with a outboard motor. The proper name for most modern day fishing kayaks is a fishing platform. If you can paddle it with your feet and put a motor on it, it is definitely a fishing platform. Kayaks have been around for thousands of years. The difference between the two is like calling a cat a dog! Most of these modern day fishing kayaks need two people to move them around. A kayak should be easy for a single man to handle….Modern day fishing kayaks would save a lot of confusing dialog by calling it a fishing platform…
But at what point especially in the tournament world does it become people trying to use smaller boats and trying to justify that it's a kayak when it's really not, if you can't paddle it effectively to a destination then it's not a kayak, people have backup paddles on full size boats but let's be honest you aren't doing much with that
@@imperialwhovian3461 I couldn’t tell you that, although I’m fairly confident that rules would be amended or changed and that it will ultimately sort itself out. I don’t fish tournaments, so I really don’t have a vested interest.
My opinion is who cares if its really a kayak? Why does it matter? Plenty of "real kayaks" already exist just buy one of those if that's what you want.
Hell I didn't know there was such issues in the world! 😂 Ain't no telling what they'll call me on my Kaku Zulu I guess needs to be re-branded to paddle craft.
I gotta disagree with you on part of this. Fishing kayaks are kayaks and really any kayak you fish from you can consider a fishing kayak. Just because what you're in is a "fishing kayak," doesn't mean you have to fish from it. We're all on the same team and we learn much of the same lessons from our part of the kayaking world. We're anglers, kayak anglers, and kayakers. We can be the same and be different at the same time.
We aren’t disagreeing, but I’m saying they don’t have to meet someone else’s definition of a kayak. I also don’t think just because you fish from a kayak that it becomes a fishing kayak. So maybe that’s where we disagree. If I fish from a whitewater kayak, it doesn’t become a fishing kayak. I’m fishing from a kayak, but that doesn’t make it a fishing kayak. Same as my teaching a duck to bark analogy! Much love either way and thanks for watching and commenting
@@ChadHooverFishing, I see your point. Just like there's all kinds of motor boats, there's all kinds of kayaks. You can do things with them they weren't necessarily designed to do, but they're still part of the same happy family. What "grinds my geahs" is when people use definitions to separate the parts of the whole rather than just defining the parts of that whole and that's what your whole video was about. Defining, but not separating. You do good work for anglers, kayakers, lovers of the outdoors, and just people in general. Keep it up, knuckle head!
It's simple if it takes a motor to propel it its a boat by law.. but it hurts that most company's are starting just to make these and you have to register it? So once again if you have to register it its a boat. there is no debate. LOL
Love to say I love my Sit On Top Kayak. It makes the rich snobs who have to have a four thousand dollar Ole Towne, Hobie and the like fester with angst. They’re all stuffy and grouchy in their Patagonia Sun shirts and $300 Sunglasses tethered to their $50 bands. Love to make their day when I show up in their world in my lowly Lifetime Kayak that’s not a kayak.
It’s a pretty stupid argument. Let’s be honest, the people who are always up in arms about new technology and new developments in the industry are the same people who tell you that they can out fish you with a cane pole and a piece of bread. I’m honestly getting sick and tired of always seeing people whine and complain about something that they would never buy themselves. Let people like things. I don’t get why these people need to open their mouths if it’s something that they wouldn’t use. There are plenty of No-Motor kayak tournament trails across the US. There are plenty of tournaments that don’t allow fish finders. Let people enjoy things. What’s not for you doesn’t mean it’s not for someone else.
I'd wager the vast majority of people who'd be interested in that boat could give two "ducks" what it is called. I'm a big guy who'd like to get back into fishing and these larger platforms speak to me. Pretty simple. If you don't like it, don't buy it and STFU.
What I find it absolutely amusing. Is that ever since icast started? Our feeds have been literally flooded with a bonafide kayak in the wilderness kayak. Now all we here is the constant defending of those two kayaks. So somebody please tell me was there anything else at icast besides literally just these two?. You're only further feeding into the frenzy if all everybody is talking about. Are these two new kayaks? And it seems to dumb down what icast really is if all you're going to do is keep talking about these two kayaks. There will always be haters that will never end and trying to argue with haters is exactly what they want. You want to drive haters bonkers literally just ignore them. Don't respond to him pretend they don't exist. You take away their audience or any ear that's wanting to listen. They themselves will eventually grow tired of trying to expel energy on it
Bruh, they are doing exactly what we wanted them to do and it’s why all the feeds are busy talking about kayak fishing. It ain’t our job to prop up ICAST and try to make other stuff seem more exciting than it was. These two fishing kayaks were and are the talk of the show. A kayak has now won Best of Show almost every year for the last 8 years, so it’s naturally going to get more attention. Every time a troll feeds the algorithm to further distribute the content promoting this and other videos they are putting it in front of people who will actually love it and potentially buy it.
Fishing is supposed to be fun If people are negative towards a company they have no say in, then let em be mad. No need to even give the time of day over something so pointless. Yet here u are.
Thanks! I tried
I’ve seen it, touched it, had my kids sit on it. It’s a great looking boat or kayak. Wasn’t a fan before but I like having more options.
Some eskimos said the same thing when someone changed from a hollowed-out log to a timber frame with sealskin wraps.
Amen and Amen. You do you, and I'll do me and we will all fish happy!
👊🏻
Can it be paddled only effectively? If not, it’s not a kayak. It’s in the same category as a two man boat.
Yep that's what none of them will talk about
Yes, I can paddle this as effectively or more effectively than tons of other “fishing kayaks” on the market. Again, you said it’s not a “kayak” which is the point of the video, that’s because it’s a “fishing kayak”. Thanks for the comment
😅 I'd love to see you paddle that thing Chad.
Why couldnt it? Id be willing to bet the xtr paddles better than some canoes ive paddled in in the past.
👊🏻
When I start kayak fishing tournament it was all man power . Now you need a motor to compete
It was never “all” man powered. I was one of the first tournament series and definitely the first to go nationwide and we have allowed motors from day one.
It is a Chad Boat.
I absolutely agree with you. I once had a Hobie Fishing Kayak that I swapped out the pedals to troll motor. Chad, some people just want to stir up trouble.
I know and I’m helping them. I just wanted to clarify the major “sticking point” that I see where people are confused
“If I teach a duck to bark like a dog don’t make it a dog” lmao 😜 Appreciate the opinion from a true innovator in the sport of fishing in a kayak.
Thanks John.
Fishing kayaks are a different breed from recreational kayaks that’s all, I love fishing kayaks as a tournament angler
👍
I do agree with you it is a fishing kayak it takes you out on the water so you can get to sportswear bolts can't get to
I cannot wait to get in the XTR KAYAK!
Me either, I only got to spend about four hours in it and I’ve rigged it and re-rigged it in my head 27 times… LOL
Thank you!!
@ChadHooverFishing Dude, my opinion , your KBF legacy will live on over 100 years after you leave earth
Plastic will handle rocks better than metal in my opinion.
I personally love when people get triggered from dumb sh*t. Good stuff chad
Yessir, and there are actually more available now than there have ever been.
Really wanna skiff, lol so close! Off topic, but wish kayak builder's make a yak based on catfishing. The kayak catfishing sport is growing super fast!
This one had that in mind and will be used for that pretty much right out of the gate.
Yep. I have 2 bonifide ss127's. I am a disabled vet. The swivel seat alone will help me physically. Let alone the room you get. I'm stoked cause this is set up out the gate for all fishermen, especially catfishing!
when do they become a skiff? just thought I'd muddy the water... 🎣🥳👌
A skiff is any of a variety of essentially unrelated styles of small boats, usually propelled by sails or oars. Traditionally, these are coastal craft or river craft used for work, leisure, as a utility craft, and for fishing, and have a one-person or small crew. There, now you can decide…. 😜
These folks are the Randy’s of the kayak world 🤷🏽♂️
Who’s Randy? 😂😂
Heck, I'm in a Bluesky 360 Pro. That's a catamaran kayak that's legal in tournaments. The argument can be had... but the rules are black and white.
But we don’t need to create a “new class” because “fishing kayak” is the new class. And one part of that class is motorized versions. Make sense?
@@ChadHooverFishing"personal fishing craft" there I settled all arguments😂
You are absolutely right Chad! 👍🏻😀
Thanks for watching!
If it would be allowed in my tournaments, then I am gonna trade in 2 of my ss127 yaks for xtr130!
It will 100% be allowed
i honestly dont even know why people waste energy on if its a kayak or not? they got their priorities lost, I would assume its the same type of person that gets pissy when I show up to out fish them at my home lake
That's where the real talent is
Great information chad thank you
You bet
Call it what you want; I love fishing out of my Old Town Sportsman 106 Paddle Kayak. No motor, no peddles, no fish finder just my paddle. What a Blast!!!
Hoover's theory of evolution
It’s not a theory. This one is based on having been there along the way,
Not digging up some bones and guessing 😂😂😂
And I have done several half Eskimo rolls on a few styles of yaks! lol😅
😂😂😂
I could care less what people call it as long as I’m out on the water fishing on it.
Heck, in your First Look video of the XTR, both you and Hans called it a boat in the first 2 minutes 😮
That’s because I kayaks are boats. I said that in this video too. Calling a kayak a boat isn’t incorrect
Honestly if you can paddle it effectively over a decent distance without killing yourself then its a kayak, if you cant even paddle it a half mile or more then its probably not a kayak, i have a knarr and while its big it still perfroms well enough that i can paddle it a long distance with little issue
Well said Chad!
my jon boat identifies as a kayak. It's loaded with yakattack accessories. What I use on my kayak, I use on my jon boat, and that includes the kayak paddle. haha
Just buy a kayak…. LOL. Just kidding.
Spot on Chad👊
I'll pile on too, have no gripe either way, got 2 'sit on' kayaks and a pontoon boat....I fish from all them, how does the stand up paddle boards or even the inflatable paddle boards not fall into that, why does fishing have to get dragged through the mud for some dumb stuff like this 'definition'
I agree!
Great video
Thanks
Well put brother.
Much appreciated
Exactly this. Exactly.
I don't care what you call it. It is cool and looks to be fun to fish out of.
It's easier to justify to your spouse that you're purchasing a kayak rather than a motorboat...at least until the credit card atatement arrives!
😂😂
Is a convertible not a car???
Wait, what does it convert too? 😂😂
Lol everyone thought they were going to love this new Kayak and they don’t lol
Oh, no one thought or will ever thing “everyone” is gonna do anything these days. There is a vast number of people and personalities out there that willl always shit on something just because it’s new or different
"personal fishing craft" there I settled all arguments😂 now everyone stfu and drop all the semantics and go fish dammit!😂
In MY opinion once a kayak becomes so large and heavy you loose all the advantages of ease of transport and storage a kayak has over a 12-14' boat and now your kayak is every bit as difficult to transport and store as a 12-14' boat again in my opinion just get a good used 12-14' used boat with a motor that a small boat has significantly more advantages to a fisherman than does a 12-14' kayak ever could
Im not criticizing anyone's choices or purchases
But in my opinion and for my $$$s before I spend $3-$4k on a kayak I still have to equip with additional equipment that will add another $1k-$1500 to its cost and still have all of the vary significant disadvantages a kayak has VS a small boat I'm buying a small boat and motor
And yes I do own a 12" fishing kayak
I have spent countless 100s of days fishing out of 10' and 12' boats and never fell out of a small boat or flipped a small boat and with a trolling motor or small gas motor covered huge areas of lakes very effectively
I have been in more than a few canoes that got tipped on boundry water's canoe fishing trips and if you kayak long enough you will tip one or if you stand up in them fall out of one.
My point is what is the point of owning a kayak with all of the same storage and transportation issues of a small boat but none of the very many and significant advantages of a small boat VS a kayak
Again to each there own
I don’t think the cost is a solid argument either. For example, it’s like it someone buys a really nice Side By Side UTV and people say “just buy a small truck” when they aren’t the same thing and the UTV is more capable for what it is designed for.
These fishing kayaks are much more effective at a lot of what they do than any (or most) small boats.
Call it what you want all that matters is if it works.
Ding, ding, ding…
@@ChadHooverFishing I run an OT PDL 120 and that’s more than what I need but I wanted it and love it. So to clarify what I mean, it’s hard earned money to buy any fishing kayak so if whoever buys it gets what they want then it’s perfect even if it’s a Walmart job.
We all have to do we see fit for ourselves. Like @garyvee says, “You can’t live life based on other people’s opinions.”
Quick…..anyone know how many times Chad said “kayak “?😂
Drinking game maybe? 😂😂
For the most part a kayak you sit inside. If you can’t put the kayak on your shoulders and pack it to the beach it’s not a kayak. Kayaks should be a fairly simple boat and
not to heavy.
A dock is also fishing platform. That wouldn’t reduce the confusion… LOL
Chad you are not a kayak!!!.... Chad starts doing the backstroke and tells me otherwise. =) I Agree with you, it's a fishing kayak.
No, it’s a fishing kayak.. 😂😂
@@ChadHooverFishinga fishing kayak. Yes sir.
Use what you want. It’s nobody’s business. Did they buy it? If you paid for it don’t worry about what anyone thinks.
There are a plethora of kayaks in all categories to satisfy the “purists” and those who embrace growth and innovation. No big deal, imo.
That’s clarified in the rules
Good thing is there alllllll kinds of kayaks designed these days? Buy what level ya want? Be happy…
Just like they have white water kayaks, sea kayaks etc
