    Nice video. One thing: there is no need in removal of the plastic DCT clutch case cover. The cover of the DCT filter should clear the plastic cover when being removed. In the worst case just loosen the three plastic cover bolts to gain more space.
    Cheers!

    An excellent video on oil & filter change, VFRMitch. Good coverage with the camera. I really appreciate your sharing this experience. I have a 2017 VFR1200X manual shift plus a 2017 VFR1200X DCT.
    Thanks, Mitch!

    Oil filter top tip ... buy a strap wrench you can then give the new filter a little nip up, most filter are a mare for hand access, always oil O'ring & fill filter up with fresh oil before fitting it, ensures u get instant oil flow up to cams on start up.

      Cheers Mark. It appears the engine cowl does not need removing after all. Being a try it and see ( I didn’t know what to expect with the DCT oil housing ) I removed it for convenience, you don’t need to make that mistake. 👍

    Thanks for the video VFRMitch! Really good. I am a complete novice at motorbike maintenance, but this has definitely given me the confidence to have a go myself. What other maintenance video ideas do you have? Brake pads? Air filter? Thanks for putting the time and effort in. I found it really useful, and it went at a good pace.

    • @VFRMitch
      @VFRMitch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Kev, I’m a novice too. The oil change is not difficult at all. I would suggest getting a dedicated oil filter removal tool ( one of the end cap ones and maybe a torque wrench which someone has kindly linked in one of the Facebook comments). As for future content I’m still working on it. Drive shaft oil change for definite. Possible air filter . I have the OEM spotlights to repair and a few other upgrades coming. Brake pads possible whenever they need doing. Thanks for the input. Stay safe and stay tuned....

    Hi Mitch. I too have a new DCT and recently changed the oil and filters. The Crosstourer forum is really useful if you are not already aware. Personally I would always use a torque wrench because you can set everything with confidence. For example those 4 DCT bolts (I have read) are easy to strip out if you are too heavy handed with them. Thanks for taking the time to do the vid anyway.I enjoyed doing mine too, very satisfying. Great bikes aren't they!

    • @VFRMitch
      @VFRMitch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Thanks for taking the time to watch the vid. Embarrassingly I do actually have a set of torque wrenches! I wasn’t able to lay my hands on the manual. I’ll get hold of the settings online and nip them up correctly ( I can promise you I probably under tightened them slightly if anything) I’m not really on the forum but will definitely make more time to have a good look on it.

    • @jfro5867
      @jfro5867 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VFRMitch No worries Mitch. I set my DCT bolts to 5Nm and felt comfortable at that. As there's no gasket on the face of the cover when it's nipped up it's nipped. Much more after that and it's stripped thread time.

    great video I also replace the filters in my crosstourer in the machine, just tell me why did you unscrew the cover from the engine? I unscrewed the internal filter without unscrewing, with what force did you tighten these 4 screws in Nm? because the oil drain screw is to be 29 Nm

      Hi. I took the cover off more for curiosity as I wasn’t sure whether the filter cover would clear it. It turns out I never needed to remove it ! . • @VFRMitch
      @VFRMitch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Ideally flushing it with some cheap oil would have sorted that. it’s currently only doing 1-2000 miles between oils changes so I can live with a little contamination 👍. . It did use close to 4 litres so couldn’t have been much left in it 😬. Thanks for watching.

    Hiya pal, it's Dave here 1200x owner. Has your bike ever had any engine oil seepage from the oil filler cap ?. I've noticed on the odd occasion oil seepage after having been out on the bike. I always check to see if the oil filler cap is tight but always seem to see oil escaping 🤷🏻‍♂️. Been in for a service a week ago and oil seepage again 🤦🏻‍♂️, nothing dramatic but its starting to get annoying. I've checked the filler cap for cracks ( none ) the o ring seems ok and not split, any ideas pal, thanks 👍🏻

      Hi Dave, can’t say mines ever dropped any oil ever. Not one drop. Might be worth trying to get hold of a cheap second hand oil cap. It shouldn’t cost a fortune and might make a difference. Let me know if you find out what’s causing it.

      Hi i macca you are quite correct. It could have been done in a quarter of the time if I hadn’t been filming it. The video was made to slowly go through what’s involved. Not rush things. Many people are having a go at servicing their bikes themselves this year due to circumstances beyond our control.This task was done by myself without any service manual or any previous experience. It was purely to show people they can tackle it themselves in their own time and make sure their bike can be oil changed easily without having to risk finding a dealer which isn’t locked down during these difficult times. I appreciate your comment. I am new to this and still working out what footage to keep in the videos . You’ll like the last 2 as they are sped up 🤣Stay Safe 👍
