Had the good fortune to meet one of the Granville
brothers at Old Rhinebeck. He talked with with me
as though I were a real person. A GRAND person!!

This really is an absolutely beautiful story, seeing the original designer of one of the most famous race planes come back to life, and with one of the original designers seeing it fly one last time is truly heartwarming.

This sends shivers down my spine because I am that old now. And when you get old the only thing you have is your memories . Guess that has to be enough.

Saw the GeeBee fly at SnF 96 when my Dad was still alive. Truly one of the best memories ever.

Very nice story! Reminds me of Jack Northrup being shown the stealth bomber.

Pretty sure Zantford Grannie Granville watched from above, and Delmar did him proud.

I was lucky enough to see Delmar's show at Oshkosh. If an 8 pt roll, 20 ft off the deck doesn't dispel the R2 reputation, then nothing will.

The only vice these things had was aileron flutter at high speed which was the cause of the wing separation incident and death in the Thompson Trophy air racing speed record in 1931 piloted by Lowell Bayles.

The originals were build in a few months. I’m sure they were nowhere near as pretty as this one.
