      Anything 1500m is above will be about tactics, not speed. No one wants to be the rabbit at the Olympics, so it’ll be a wait and kick race with a slower time...see Matt Centrowitz in Rio. For things below that, it’ll be tough. 800? No one has run within a second of Ruidisha’s record. Van Niekerk hasn’t come within .4 of his record since Rio, and neither has anyone else. For all the talk about Terence Laird’s 19.81, if he’d run against Bolt’s WR he loses by 6 meters. Same with the 100. No one now running has even come remotely close to Bolt’s 9.58.
      I’ll call it now, though. There will be one Men’s WR that goes down. Kevin Young’s 400m hurdles record which will have stood for 29 years? Either Karsten Warholm or Rai Benjamin (or both) take it in Tokyo.

    • @Elliottklassen
      @Elliottklassen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it’s very possible that the race is ran with a 43.4 sort of run, as it was in Doha. Of all these athletes, other than Van Niekerk’s 43.03, none of them have ran under 43.4 up to this point, so unless one of them runs a PB by a wide margin, or Wayde manages to surpass his 2016 form, I think it’s actually most likely that the world record does not fall. A world record is definitely possible, but you’re discrediting the caliber of 43.03 when you suggest that any one competition will certainly beat it.

    • @alansamuel2454
      @alansamuel2454 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Talent doesn't always guarantee times when different people react differently to the vast amount of rounds, have different schedules with various events and other such factors. I don't deny the level of talent in 2021 - it will be the most stacked field in history
      a) 6 sub 44's - Wayde Van Niekerk, Michael Norman, Steve Gardiner, Fred Kerley, Kirani James, Akeem Bloomfield and
      b) a few in the low 44's - Thebe, Haroun, Zambrano, Allen and maybe even Korir if he can somehow figure out how to handle both the 400 and 800.
      But to say that ' the winning time cant produce anything less than a WR' is massively discrediting Wayde Van Niekerk. Many of those athletes have run splendid times but imo there's a bigger gap between 44.4 to 44.03 than lets say a 44 to a 43.8. Getting that down thinking it's just another 40 milliseconds is just not the same. Norman or Gardiner have a massive chance to improve on their PB's and maybe just maybe break the world record - i definitely don't say its guaranteed.

    • @alansamuel2454
      @alansamuel2454 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regardless we're gonna see more than three sub 44's - something's that's never happened before in the Olympics. And just imagining that itself is so damn wonderful I can't wait for the Olympics

    • @Elliottklassen
      @Elliottklassen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alansamuel2454 You even left out a few others, like Makwala if he can manage his previous form, and Cedenio. If the best athletes all manage to make it through the rounds, it’ll be an incredible final, but I agree with you completely that talent doesn’t guarantee times.

    It seems that our previous idea of how 400m runners are built may be wrong. In the past, 400m runners have payed the 100m no attention, and haven’t tried to run fast marks in the event. Now that we’ve hyped Van Niekerk and Norman so much, it seems like more 400m runners are going to keep running sub 10 in an attempt to be grouped in the same mythical sub 10 sub 20 sub 44 club.

    • @yawos9024
      @yawos9024 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Van Niekerk is not hyped. May be Norman is. Wayde is the fastest 400 meter runner in the history of this planet by far! I mean we could talk about Michael Johnson but the others are pretenders until they actually prove us wrong.

    • @Elliottklassen
      @Elliottklassen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@yawos9024 Sorry, I didn’t word that correctly. I’m a fan of Van Niekerk, and I know that he’s the real deal, but this magical “sub 10, sub 20, sub 44” club, which Van Niekerk is a part of, may be overhyped. As soon as it became a thing people cared about, 400m runners started achieving it. It didn’t take long after Van Niekerk for Norman to join, and soon Kerley, and then probably not long after that for the next athlete.

Went to World U20s in 2018 in the 4×4 in the preliminary round. But Williams, although he does deserve respect, it's just not fair the amount of credit he's getting when others have gone faster than him and have achieved more.
