      It will help a lot if you eat more. Adding fat will make it easier to gain muscle. I was 130 pounds only benching around 170 pounds., I started eating 4 meals instead of 3 and in 5 months, lifting harder I got to 155 pounds benching 285 pounds.

      Can’t tell if I have shitty genetics. Putting on muscle isn’t a problem for me but I have very thin small bones that make me look skinny still in a T shirt. I have made considerable progress from where I have started but it doesn’t look like it. Ppl who don’t lift look the same size or bigger than me but their muscle maturity and development is way less than mines. I’m 5’7 and went from 100lbs to 135lbs in about 1.5yrs I did a horrible cut on accident and lost a little bit of muscle but I now weigh 120lbs and have abs(I didn’t have abs at 135) so would it be fair to say I put on 20lbs of muscle? But because my bones are lighter and smaller than a normal person 120lbs lean for me is like 140lbs lean for them. Where do I stand? (My wrists are 5.5 inches btw so I’m not joking about having thin light bones.)

    I think besides having certain advantageous genes it’s also about to which extent these genes get expressed. In this regard by my observation it’s beneficial when people start exercising (not just weight training, any kind of serious sport) early in childhood. Almost all of the kids that started rowing with me and stuck with it until adulthood still look somewhat proportional, symmetric and athletic. And I doubt we all had superior genetics.

    • @monsterbulgaria
      @monsterbulgaria ปีที่แล้ว +38

      It might be true, but it might just be the bias of continuing the sport. As is the same with basketball for example, a ton of kids play basketball, but usually, the ones who stick with it for many years are the one predisposed to be better (in this case, taller), so in the end you get a bunch of kids that started playing basketball at age 10 and kept playing into adulthood who are like all 6ft+, but its not that basketball since the age of 10 did that, its that because at age 13, 14 or whatever they grew a lot, while still having a decent amount of interest in basketball, the added height made them better, which further increased their interest in the sport, so they kept at it for a long time. In your case the kids who kept rowing probably had advantageous body structures for rowing (usually most power based actions require wide shoulders, which are the holy grail of aesthetics) plus, after all, long years of doing any kinds of athletic training, usually leads to better health choices and for sure leads to a better "base" of muscle/looks.

    • @uyensoldier374

      @@monsterbulgaria Yes you might be right. Its only hypothetical. it came to my mind because I learned about gene expression and regulating factors in pre-clinical studies in as a med student. Some genes don´t do much unless conditions occur in which they are needed. I may imagine (again hypothetically) that there can be an adaptation that allows to express certain genes more and faster when they have been extensively activated before for longer times. Or in other words that individuals who start early may get more out of their genetics than those who start late (besides effects of normal age related disadvantages like slwoing metabolism and changing hormone levels). But maybe its just as you said, those who were naturally good stuck with it and reaped in the benefits of regular long term exercise.

      @xXAlmdudlerXx genetics is mostly what you blame when you cant figure out how to do something, even though its likely just stubborness stacked on top of stupidity and sprinkled with poor coaching.
      Actual genetics goes from obvious (height) to subtle (protein structure) and should be covered before whipping out the bell curve. Imho.
      Maybe fast twitch vs slow twitch muscle fibers is genetic, maybe not. Maybe thats why chimpanzees are stronger than bodybuilders, or maybe its because monkeys spend more time in trees than rings gymnasts spend on rings. I dont even know.

    I'm so thankful for my elite level endurance. As a wildland firefighter, my first year as a rookie I ended up cutting 400 feet (4' scrape) by myself with 2 saw teams(they did 6 foot cut) . The rest of my crew was told to do hotline while I was tasked to put a indirect line down as far as I could before my crew caught up. I didn't know how long it was at the time, but in my head I was saving people's property and possibly life. I just put my head down and worked nonstop staying close to the saw teams. After about close to an hour I looked up and noticed I reached a road to connect to. for perspective an exam for a firefighting crew to be certified is 300 feet of line cut 12+ people have to work together to complete that in an hour. I was told by my captain that I had cut 400 feet of line and later even the veteran firefighters respected me and asked me for advice. I believe this is genetic because I know if I raced against my dad (he is not a firefighter) in his prime for who can cut the most fire line I would lose.

    It's not just how easy you gain muscle or look good. It is also how prone you are to injury. Some people progress quickly but can't train for long without injuries. It applies in pro sports too. Every athlete who makes it to a pro league has right genetics for that sport, but not all of them can last long.

    So what I got from Coach Greg is that we are not usless, but most of the time it's easier to avoid the hard work to stay in our comfort zone. I also might have misunderstood a bit since I also understood that even if we don't have an S+ in strength or muscle building genetics, that means we might have great resistance, great proportions, or well-rounded physiques overall. At the end of the day, I'm pretty sure most people have great potential for athleticism. Thanks to Coach Greg for inspiring me to go to the gym. I've trained with bodyweight only for a while now, and since I really want to be at my best by the time I'm 30, I want to have a better way to push myself because with calisthenics, it's been easy for me to stop pushing my limits. If you read this till the end, thanks a lot and keep it up. I'm sure you're doing great, so good luck.

By trying alone and persevering you are still going to be better than the majority of people who do nothing at all. I see lifting as a self competition, if I get better great if not, oh well move down one weight move up again and once I hit a point I am happy with I will just move to focus on maintenance. :) Like who carers if you are not the elite, it only matters if you are at that level if you want to compete in the olympics or some crap. I started focusing on protein intake 2 months ago. Averaging 90-100 grams a day, for the most part. I personally have found It difficult to eat that much. But I've gotten used to it, more so. I originally weighed 73-74 kg. I now weigh 82-84 kg. In 2 months. Now I haven't documented any progress daily, this is just me kind of guesstimating overall.
    And I'm feeling overall positive, I'm really starting to see results. I'm 37 years old.
    My diet is. I have protein oats (15 g) with milk, honey, banana, strawberry and blueberry int he morning, with 1 scoop of protein powder. Then have a protein shake. Have another protein shake or 2 during the day depending on whatever. Then eat a big dinner, rice, chicken. And vegetable soup daily. With Brussel sprouts, broccoli, carrots, celery, green beans, red peppers, leek. I make a big pot that lasts me two weeks.
    I've been kind of doing calisthenics for the past 2 years. Which I personally believe to be far more superior in building muscle in areas where the gym exercises just couldn't reach. In the sense it activated more of my muscles, (no muscle was on holiday on ring workouts), this was good for my mind muscle connection. Now having returned to the gym, I fell the gains are a combination of the foundational calisthenics which was building muscle in areas where there were none.
    The protein intake, and the addition of returning to the gym and selectively working muscle groups again.
    I do like to return to rings every fortnight, just so all the muscle groups that don't get worked out in my gym routine.
    I'd love to hear your thoughts coach Greg. My assessment is just what I've come up with from my personal experience. I've worked out before, but never really paid attention to protein intake until the last two months.

I am definitely bottom tier genetics (fat and weak most of my life) but was able to move up two or three levels through hard work and dedication. And in reality it’s so easy to move up the levels with todays lazy society. Have you all seen how fat and lazy people most people are now a days? It’s never been easier to move up. It’s so easy that I’m even above average for guys half my age in their 20s! So don’t lose hope and keep trying!

    Honestly my genetics are pretty good. I was really overweight at 280 at 5’10 when I started the gym for the very first time 2.5 years ago and after I lost all of that weight I now look like I do lol. My 1st cousin is also an ifbb pro that won the Toronto pro show in 2021. His name is Joel Thomas if anyone is interested. So yeah we both have some at least good genetics lol.

      For him to be an IF B pro, are steroids required or there are contests that are natural?
      Also, do you and your cousin offer help for someone trying to bodybuild? I have a routine from Geoffrey Verity Schofield (check his TH-cam) personally made for me and been doing it for a long time.
      Would like some advice in turns of my routine and food and all from experienced people like you two.
      And thank you

      @@MrCruz-iq3sc Im not able to give nearly as good advice or help as Geoffrey. He is far far more experienced than me I would definitely keep following his programs. I actually watch his videos myself. As for my cousin I dont know what or anything but yes he uses PEDs. He competes in mens open bodybuilding and even went to the olympia so he’s on gear lol. Although I will say that PEDs will not automatically make you huge without you having to do anything. You still have to put in an unbelievable amount of work in actually get use out of the gear. I’m natural myself and Im not enough into actual bodybuilding to ever take gear I don’t think but im also only 21 and only been in the gym for like I said 2.5 years so even if I did want to get on steroids or whatever I definitely still have a lot of time Id need to wait before doing them. I can’t really give advice honestly I just can do what I know works for me. I would keep watching Geoffrey and listen to his advice on everything fitness. He’s a really good no bs source of information and can provide way better information on anything that I could give. Good luck!

    Honestly speaking, I have above average to elite level genetics. After 2 months of a bad diet and bad workouts, I could almost squat 2 plates at less than 180lbs. Didn't deadlift at the time tho. When I was 12-13 I could alredy squat with the heaviest kids on my shoulders no problem. My legs were naturally freakishly strong(and my glutes). I have been lifting ofr 1.5 years now, and deadlifting for a little less than 1 year and I alredy rep over 405 and have done a 200kg deadlift. My bench tho? Absolute shit. Can only 1rep max 205 ocasionally. My arms have always been pretty weak(although it may be because of my 6'4 wingspan), and my chest is alright. Although my muscke building genetics I would say are elite. I don't naturally look huge, but I got to 225 lbs at 15ish% bf. My brother was the same thing. Skinny and then just blew up after a couple of months. Not freaky super mega elite, but elite.
    I do have a school partner that just mega alitw genetics tho. He is gifted in all sports, shredded and muscular. He does nothing with it though. He has a lack of discipline, attention problems, etc. He only plays futbol(soccer) like once a week and sleeps. Told him to join me at the gym and he said he "Nah, I am too lazy". I am genuenly jelous of his genetics. If you could see him in person you would understand what I am talking about.
    Ps: My proportions aren't very good for bodybullding. Have a really short torso with a wide waist and loooong legs and arms. Although my proportions would be perfect for a female ig model, my glutes are just too bug, it kinda looks like a bbl sometimes.

    • @Dr_Mundo
      @Dr_Mundo 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@tylerfreal6472 That's the thing, when i was very thin my glutes were still very big. Right now I'm about 225 lbs/102-103 kg, but my upper body looks 12% body fat, chest striations(not bodybuilder level, but you can see them a little when I flex), shoulder definition, my 4 upper abs are still very visible including the bear claws and I don't have much fat on my arms(making them look very fucking small lmao).
      But my legs just look ridiculous. I had to start using size 40 oversized pants because I felt so unconfortable. Not only were clothes tight but people would stare at me and even touch me. People have wondered if I have a bbl or something because even with those pants, you can't hide big glutes.

      @@Dr_Mundo yeah now that you expanded i deff think i'm right and it also sounds like your lower body is always gonna be bigger and stronger then your bottom. im all the at the opposite with a strong upper body weak lower and way at the bottom at a 27 inch waist at my leanest but i still have fat on my ass till i get to 7% my forearms and calfs look like dick skin with a pump but my last 2 abs just offset of my waist and my ass still has pinchable fat cause i only carry fat in those areas till i get to 15% plus . id have to get stage lean to get rid of it which aint healthy to maintain .
      like i said its uncommon for men so alot of people dont know why their ass is so big so if its really bothering you like i said get super cut once your a good size ( personally i think your good now unless your taller then 6,4 and more then 15% body fat )and see if that fat does come off or if it is just you have crazy legs .

    Honestly I wish information like this existed when I was younger; I always thought I had horrible genetics in every way, never bothered trying to workout or do much because I had just assumed I'd remain fat and "ugly" as a teen, ended up permanently injuring myself multiple times due to accidents or overworking my body while being overweight. After years of researching and wanting to get in shape and being afraid to try I said fuck it and started fully dedicating as much as my body would allow me each day to workout as hard as I could.
    Initially when I had my max dose percs (prescribed) I was being an idiot and doing like intense full body workouts for 3-4 hours a day, sometimes 7 days a week but usually 6 days. After about... a month maybe 2? Of only being more active; not being able to clean up my diet, my biceps blew up from a 13inch to an 18inch, my chest and shoulders went up like 6 inches, could visibly see all the muscle fibers of my obliques and abs making like the "perfect" V taper look, my shoulders and traps look like like steroid traps despite never touching them, my calves are insanely toned and big, back was sculpted, had the nice back flare (cant think of the muscles) that people love, the wide back. Chest was full, went from basically no tricep development to it being almost as big if not bigger than my biceps. Meanwhile my bench press I could barely do like... 100lbs when I first tried? Mind you I'm 6'2" or 3 and 230lbs, I should be easily moving 100lbs. On the flipside when I first started ever working out; I was curling 75 or 85lbs on my barbell with ease, bent over rowing 135s, was doing pullups and holding my own bodyweight at 270lbs. Its kind of funny honestly; just goes to show that even if you're huge or tall or look like you should be amazing at X thing and bad at Y thing; its not always the case.
    It was really.. motivating and just amazing to know about my genetics; all my life I thought I would only be good at video games, but in reality I'm even better at working out than them? It blew my mind and just made me want to really change my life fully and go all in.
