Would even be possible to feed the metabolism of a Speedster? The caloric needs for that amount of energy would be an immense. Also wouldn't that extremely high metabolism age you equally High rate?
Randall Munroe (XKCD) noted in his first "what if?" (what-if.xkcd.com/1/ ) that throwing a fastball close to the speed of light would cause the air molecules to fuse with the baseball resulting in a nuclear explosion. So once a speedster was going fast enough everything around them would be on fire...and also a nuclear wasteland.
Yes but the flash tv show and comics account for this, thus why he doesn’t mention it. In the Comics and tv show it is mentioned Barry/Wally have to consume thousands of calories a day to maintain his top speed. Also The Flash has multiple other powers to keep him alive such as speed healing, Hyper comprehensive brain activity. This means his mind is able to operate just as fast maybe faster than his actual speed if we take Flashtime into account. Flashtime is where Speedsters slow the time around them giving them some other Abilities they can use as long as they don’t burn out from extensive use of Flashtime. These abilities range from enabling a regular person to perceive Flashtime and have a glimpse into a speedster’s world all the way to manipulating the speedforce.
The super speed the flash has is because of the speed force,it also protects him and the people he touches from dying because of "speed force protection"
fun fact: if you travel a sizeable portion of the speed of light, the air molecules in the atmosphere would not have enough time to move out of the way, (much like the compression, only more... spectacular) so fusion would occur at the points of contact, triggering nuclear explosions. how fun
@@bigiron7547 Sonic boom is just compressed sound waves. Moving at significant fractions of light speed is a whole other story, it would release billions of times more energy in the form of heat/light/etc. Basically nonstop nuclear bombs.
I thought it was a green screen and he was just adding the wiring in post :o . Impressive.. also thank you. I needed to know scientist Thor was a thing
That's assuming that you have the requisite Plot Armor™ rather than just having a super power according to the laws of physics and biology. Kyle also doesn't mention that would destroy everything you touch because of force and/or friction.
@@Kylora2112 I know that but he used the flash as an example while mentioning the speed force while saying the consequences, if you use the speed force younger off Scot free
Also with quicksilver he doesn’t have the speed force he has even more power that lets him control how much force it touches things with even if he’s moving fast and a bunch of other stuff on how his speed doesn’t destroy the earth and quicksilver is actually the most powerful X-men right after pro. With my nerdiest friends, we loved to find downsides to superpowers, such as superspeeds issues with inertia on our inner organs, friction on our skin, or just around us. Or Superstrenght's problem of not having super bone mass.
oh, that reminds me of a webcomic called "Magellan", about a school for superheroes. one of the teachers had Super-strength, but NOT super-strong bones, so she needed to wear an "exoskeleton" device when using her power.

@@Sami-yi9gz Because if you can attempt to explain the fantastical things that are going on, the story feels more real. Also, it prevents from any dumb solutions to problems such as "I solved this problem because of this thing that's never been mentioned before and won't be mentioned again"
@@MrThankman360 I thought maybe he was just left-handed and wrote backwards to make us think that, but I noticed he actually uses both hands, so I guess that's his superpower.
Another 'side power' you'd need for super speed is ... super-downforce. Your horizontal acceleration is limited by how much force you can apply on the ground. You can't apply more force on the ground than your own weight in Newtons. Therefore, the only way to reach faster speeds is to increase the downforce! Maybe speedsters need massive spoilers like F1 cars.
Matter Beam Could the curvature of the earth help keep speedster stuck to the ground? Similar to the teacup ride at amusement parks, everyone gets pushed outwards. At what point does your speed negate the gravity affecting you?
I would rather say the maximum force you can apply is the force the ground can support before breaking under your feet, which is still way way less than the billions Newtons required
As you approach the speed of light you do increase in mass, this is called relativistic mass but AFAIK it doesn't change your rest mass which means the gravitational interactions between you and the earth aren't affected from an outsider reference frame.
Invincible had a superhero thats basically flash. and, i loved how this guy is so downbeat because of his power. he explains to his girlfriend that, because of his speed, and perception of time as a result, EVERYTHING moves in super, super slow motion. like, one word from her, to him, takes a full minute. and i just realized. they think his power is super speed, but its actually time. time moves painfully slow for him. making him appear to be moving fast
but that depends on every superhero world. In some cases super speed only activates when the hero wants it to activate, thus explaining why they can be hit by slower enemies
The speed force has a protective field to stop you from dying instantly plus the field also makes it easier to see and protects everyone else you touch for that amount of time
There's a lot of "Super powers" that kind of really suck if you don't have the "lesser" secondary powers that can nullify their negative effects and let you control them properly. Like super strength, you still need enhanced durability to not hurt yourself and you also need control to not just destroy everthing you touch so you don't for example crush someone's hand during a handshake.
It is possible that the entire footage is flipped horizontally, or mirrored like when you take a selfie though. That way you never need to learn how to write backwards and so long as as you never wear any shirts with writting on them, no one will ever notice that the footage has been flipped.
I think this would be more of a problem for Marvel’s Quicksilver than for The Flash the speed force gives Flash a protective bubble to stop friction and the suit is specifically designed to not burn up after running whereas Quicksilver is a mutant who’s only power is speed Flash would be fine though
@spoodey7963 that speed was only referenced in a quite inaccurate handbook from the time, I'm pretty sure the handbook said things like 10 tons being spider-man's max lifting potential, even though it is contradicted in comics from the era featuring him lifting tanks, which usually weigh 60 tons, as for quicksilver, the 175mph and even the mach 1 or 10 attributed to him is contradicted by feats from the silver to bronze ages have him scouring a 10 mile area in seconds, evacuating an entire military complex full of soldiers in the literal blink of an eye (a lot like the FOX'S x-men movies quicksilver), dodging bullets, keep in mind the handbook said his reaction speed is equal to his movement speed, and even FTL feats like dodging cyclops optic beams, even to the point of side-stepping a point blank one, there's alsp the time he outsped refracted light, as well as the time he blitzed the living laser, who is a lightspeed villain, (if you want official material referencing quicksilver's actual speed outside of in-universe characters referring to him as "the fastest man alive" [which would be impossible for anyone ranging from car speeds to the machs considering the many FTL and beyond characters on marvel's earth alone] there is the official marvel website that rates quicksilver's speed at a 7, which means FTL [not the unofficial fan wiki that most refer to] as well as a writer statement that says that quicksilver is at least among the top fastest in the marvel universe) and since an upgrade in the late 90's, quicksilver has only been getting faster, although i don't think he'll surpass barry nor especially wally That 175mph would be great in a more realistic and grounded superhero universe, though like say..... if matt reeves batman universe suddenly had flash (without a speedforce) in it lol (imagine that, it'd be weird to see a realistic take on flash that doesn't wave stuff away with: "speedforce i aint gotta explain it") I didn't mean to sound rude by nerding out on you, as i don't mind limited speedsters like the kid from incredibles, but i had the compulsion to tell you that quicksilver wasn't ever that slow outside of the intent in the moment where the character was first created, tbh i think that quicksilver, alongside jay garrick is in the running for the most underrated speedster lol
@@ThirdEchelonAgent I don't want to be that guy but Cyclops Optic Beams aren't lasers, so dodging them isn't a FTL feat, as even Magneto early on could dodge them. Also if you want an example of Quicksilver's max speed, there's that time when Synapse used her telepathy to remove Quicksilver's mental blocks and he outran reality, achieving infinite speeds.
@projekttaku1 idk if I can link stuff, cause my comments with links tend to disappear, but cyclops' blasts have been stated to move at lightspeed multiple times, even though they aren't lasers
Q-10 no matter what he said the dreams die at 16-21 but I like the way you put it (I still want would like to be Bary Awesome... the comic book version of course 🤫 loool)
Q-10 Naaah he's not crushing the dreams of every kid that existed, exists, and will exist, he's merely crushing all hopes of turning our superpower dreams into reality. But... the thoughts and ideas of superpowers still remain within the fabrics of our imagined worlds, they still exist, as dreams.
All he did was state that super speed in the real world is impractical, if not impossible. In the comics, books, tv and film, his science are all meant to be broken. I take it all with a grain of salt. Some fictional scientific discoveries have become a reality. Super powers on the other hand is entirely a whole different issue.
The issue with super perception that usually goes with speedsters in many comics is that it's not really an on off thing. Everything is really slow to them at it's base rate, it can get even slower, but to start everything is already going so slow. This would be a brutal and hellish existence, especially if you're dying
There was a creepypasta about that, speeding up the mind and nothing else. “I feel I’ve been alive for a thousand years so if you see the man crying under the bench at this subway station, please end me”
Everything goes slower when they start to go really fast, or just Speed force is slowing time so its not necessary always like this, for speedster's perspective its like everything around them slows down but not them(a bit). Most likely if Speed force directly slows time around them.
@@cubeduncertainty9401 from my understanding, the speedforce does not slow down time. as shown in the video, speedsters gain insane levels of perception which allow them to get that slowed time affect.
@@cubeduncertainty9401 it dosnt allow it tho. yes speedsters can travel in time by running fast enough, but the speedforce hates it when u do that. so it sends a time wraith of whatever its called to come after u.
Perception of time would also be one of the worst powers if you can't deactivate it. It would be like being paralyzed with every second being a lifetime, and don't forget how difficult it would be to do anything. Walking would take a lifetime in your mind just to take a step, breathing another lifetime. It would be absolute hell if you can't control it.
Now imagine you can move at normal speed in that perception. It would still be horrible if you returned to normal perception after that, because too many things would happen quickly for you to adjust to in one second.
i would love to have doubled or tripled perception of time. that would be already enough to be super human in almost every way (you can learn things 3 times as fast, you have reaction times 3 times as fast, you can think 3 times as fast and so on), and life would feel 3 times as long. the downside is that every non-natural light source would be flickery as f***
It would be so cool, you had your subconsciousness reacting at any danger or emergency and switch your consciousness to the time perception rate, when running at speed of 50% of speed of light would feel like casual jogging. Problem is, you'll have to learn to operate with with world in both common and speedster time perception rates, because when real second feels like a year thing would work differently.
Something he did not a dress in this video, which I find to be an important reason why you don't want super speed is. If you were to punch something or one your hand would be destroyed. Think a bullet, when a bullet hits something or one, it gets very damaged, depending on how hard the target is, if the target is hard enough, the bullet is completely destroyed and does not go thru. And the human hand is not very hard. Another reason is the fact that, 2 objects can not occupy the same space at once. That is why if you stick your hand in a cup of water that is 3/4 full it may overflow, (depending on how big your hand is.) So while running that fast you would have to be pushing all that air out of the way, so if the air wasn't killing you like he said, it would be a huge strain on you and be very difficult to run. There is a bug that is small, so small that the air around it is like water, it swims through the air.
Thank the powers that be for the speed force. Speed force explicitly removes the possibilities of Super speed in accordance to what the user wants. So I STILL want super speed, but only if it's bundled with the "Speed Force Protection Plan"
@@linusemil6382 No one is saying that they are only saying that if they could get super speed they'd only want the version of super speed the Flash has being that the speed force explains away all these problems.
Well, we've just got to know that Thor had taken an elective on Asgard that helps him understand Groot’s language, so he could take a math elective too :D
All these explanations also only fall under a singular person and properties, but you also have to imagine everything around you, such as when you broke the sound barrier, when you would have to focus on dodging people because even if the phasing happened like in flash, you'd still very much have the velocity of all the air particles and etc that will still affect the normal person, buildings, and anything else within a certain proximity around you. The higher your speed, the greater the effects of the things you aren't in control of.
Best version of super speed... actually time manipulation. Because you could choose to go super fast compared to everyone else, by virtue of everyone else actually going slow. Downside is you would still have to run/walk all the way at normal speed for yourself, but... with no actual time lost, you would also gain a reliably safe journey and plenty of excercise!
Legit towards top of my list of superpowers. Forgot your phone? Take a nice and silent walk home and back to get it. Want to get back at someone? Slap their head and they would never know. Need to complete something under a deadline? I think you know. I think the only real downside is the lack of sound, which can be kinda lonely and make something drag out.
Yeah I mean time dilation is literally just super speed but with none of the issues of super speed. Sure, you would have to walk everywhere, but honestly that would still be worth it in countless situations.
@@BusterBrown1217 Think about it, even like this you would have to walk everywhere because you'd need to think fast to move fast like it was stated in the video, and thinking fast means time would be slower relative to you, again just like it was stated in the video. So basically even with superspeed realistically you would still need to walk/run everywhere at normal speed for you but superspeed for everyone else
If you have super speed but your brain doesn't adjust accordingly to the speed of your movements, then that already sucks in and of itself because you will literally have almost no control of your actions. You could be using your speed to get from your couch to the door faster, but next thing you know you're in Italy. It's why most fictional speedsters already have this kind of power; the Flash, Superman, Quicksilver, and etc all think and view time "normally" in accordance to their speed.
Mainly because walking itself is rather energy efficient (as in, 1000 steps requires only 40 kcal), but also, when you run in a straight line, then your running also doesn't use much energy. This mainly comes from changing momentum, so speeding up, slowing down or changing direction Or running on water, if you could somehow achieve running speed of more than 120 km/h
If you ran at super speed in the Earth's atmosphere, assuming you weren't killed by the adiabatic compression, you would also "carve" a temporary vacuum in your wake as you displace the air, and it would rapidly implode as air rushes in to fill it, violently tearing apart anything you ran past, and possibly tearing you apart as it catches up to you when you eventually stop.
He forgot one of the worst effects. You would be creating sonic booms, killing everyone around where you run, constantly. You basically are a fighter jet on steroids, flying at ground level. Also to have that force to move, you would need to impart that same amount with each step, compressing the ground or just simply punching a hole in it, probably causing you to basically trip each step, especially since the gravity keeping you on earth wouldn't counter the force you push up with, probably launching you into space with each step. Physics. They are the law, and they do not forgive
No he moves so fast he time slows down for him just like the flash he can withstand insane amounts of physical pain because when u run that fast and touch or tap something u would explode
The Speed Force basically allows the user to warp Time and Space around them. The Laws of Physics simply don't apply to an individual who can manipulate Time and Space. The video is explaining what happens to someone who moves that fast without the magic of "Speed Force".
3:22 you should have used "g" instead of G because G in physics is a constant that applies to every two masses that pull each other Fg=G*M*m/r^2, Meanwhile g is equal to: G*M/r^2.
The Flash show actually covers the whole heating up by going super speed thing, he gets a suit that was going to be used for fire fighters to prevent them from being effected by the immense heat, but also allows them to be flexible. I know that still the heat that fire fighter deal with and the heat of returning from space are nothing a like, but it try's to give an explanation.
The Justice League movie addressed it,too. In a comic book that I'm going to be writing about a Superman-like character and speedster characters,I'm going to have the speedster-characters all wear specialized suits(and helmets) that protect them from the intense friction that running and moving at super-speed would create.
@@sebastiansuazo2734 TBH, it's not that bad by Arrowverse standards, but that doesn't say much. My biggest problem is that Iris's father raised Barry. That's...kinda messed up.
Moral of the story: when someone asks you what superpower you would like to have, never give one answer. And if you give more than one answer, choose powers that compliment each other.
@@kitsuneshadow6624 Actually, you couldn't. Telepathy is manipulating thoughts, Telekinesis is the ability to move objects with your mind...and depending on the power of it would be insanely powerful.
Normally heroes with super speed are shown as experiencing time at a different speed than the things around them. That way we don't need super perception to enjoy the movie. But as you point out, it's more like a software package of superpowers instead of one single power.
They're also often depicted as being somewhat impatient and wanting to get things done as soon as possible because hey they can. Or they're Sonic the Hedgehog and like to brag about their speed. "Your too slow" became a meme for a reason.

@@Cartello_Diamante92 same here. These videos are fascinating. @Diego Ortega del Campo thanks for the recommendation. I went to his channel and remembered seeing the top video in my feed just yesterday. Will check him out.
I do want to say that he fails to realize that enhanced speed means also means super strength for your muscles to even get to that speed. If you don’t even have the muscles to generate that speed then you won’t ever have to worry about the speed itself destroying your body. In short the guy while he makes informative videos, forgot to pay attention to the easiest details to spot.
Yes, that is what I am going to say this. For instance mach 1 means breaking through the sonic barrier, the imense amount of impact so sonic shockwave.
He also missed friction between your feet and the ground to accelerate, along with not really being able to change direction (1st law). And say there was enough friction you still wouldn't be able to "fall fast enough" toward the ground in order to accelerate that quickly.
He mention it in teleportation video, according to speed, every time you start running and stop running, there will be bang, because of pressure or sonic speed, in other way it means shockwave, it means pain, and you need better protection as he said, so you cant run silently like in movies, even he was talking about jumping/teleporting from place to place he was talking about moving speed. Thats why he didnt mention it again in his video.
@@sooryabs5749 no, it's not different. He's talking about time dialation, like, you know, when something moving with relitivistic speeds, it freezing in time. Like, if you get on a spaceship that can travel with 90% of speed of light and you will go to Alpha Centauri and back, it will take you something more that 8 years, but in a spaceship will pass like few days, or something.
Being someone that's trying to make an animated show with a few speedster characters in it, this was a lot of help. Besides, it gave me a bit of inspiration on some of their other powers, so they won't need Superman level durability, but a specific set of powers that makes them the perfect speedsters. So thanks a lot dude!
Awww thanks guys, but keep in mind, you'll have to wait a good ten years until it's out soooooooo yeah sorry, but i can promise you that all the characters have their personality, backstory and i have some sick ass fight choreograhpy already thought up

12:20 Even "super perception" will only be useful if you can turn it on or off whenever you want. If not, you will die of lonely and madness because you basically live in a static world alone.
the clothes burning off is actually something of an annoying plot hole(?) in the flash TV series. In the first episodes, when he gets his powers, his clothes burn off, he's partially on fire, shoes melt etc. Which was why the suit came into play - it was supposedly made of material that did some sciencey thing to stop it from burning up at those high speeds. Then they just kinda forgot that and now Barry and Wally and Jesse are just running around in regular clothes without problem....Like...whaaaa? Not really a good comment but just...so aggravated by it
zhugzug I think it would be a cool effect to see the zipper on his hoodie glowing white hot when he ran. Unless he somehow managed to make a zipper that can literally never get hot
Would the Flash not need to eat like all the time. I mean ALL THE TIME to use all that energy? Flash says he has to eat 50 times his own body weight (according to comics) so that would mean 500 calories per pound of food. 4.5 tons = about 4,250,000 calories. Which is between around 4/5 years worth of food for a human... PER DAY!!!!
That is actually laughably little energy, you need to compare his energy requirements. 4,250,000 / 2000 = sqrt(2125) = 46. Which means the flash should sprint 46x times faster than a normal human, which is about maybe 10m/s or 36km/h. Scaling up to 460m/s and 1670 km/h.
It gets worse. Human food to muscle energy conversion is somewhere between 2 and 5%. If the Flash accelerated himself to Mach 3 in one step, he'd need to eat 784 Megajoules worth of pure sugar. That's nearly 50kg of sweets. Then, he'd have to resist drag forces continuously. If he went to relativistic speeds, he'd need to eat entire galaxy's worth of energy or worse.
I don't see a gram of fat in the flash, sugar in blood gets consumed fast, and there's not that much reservoir of sugar in the body. When the sugar is done, He'd start to consume his own proteins. If he doesn't stop because of the cramps, he'll start to consume himself from the inside out. And that's not even taking account of the energy that his brain consumes to function to perceive at that speed. That would be so cool story though, a super hero who can think at incredible speeds who need to consume simple sweets all the time, or get an intravenous supply of glucose to use his full powers. That sounds much more possible, and kinda cool, I'm thinking of something like Cerebro with more needles in it.
nah, if you look a the video he writes on the page with his left hand. this means one of 2 things, he either just writes right-handed and flips the video so the writing makes sense or he's just left handed but statistically it's probably the first one.
Correct me if I'm wrong Flash fans, but doesn't the Speed Force impart protections for any user as they move? Like, faster they go more durable they become to endure anything at thsoe speeds?
This is what I don't like about it. Somebody said "Oh, hey, let's make a character that can go really fast." Then someone else said "That wouldn't work... because science." Then the first person said "Ok, he also gets access to a force solely for the purpose of allowing him to negate all the science... and we'll call it the speed force." Some people have much a lack of imagination. I would have much preferred the character to work out a way to deal with the physics with ingenuity rather than some cheat force.
Jake Miller you looking at it the wrong way and besides the speed force... it's a huge loop hole for writers and creators alike and the genius that create it was creative in not just explaining off the bat but giving it secrets and complexity
yes, this super perception would be really good, anyway one of the reasons why I always found super speed one of the best powers, you simply have unlimited time
I think since characters like Sonic are born and made with super speed powers, their brain can think extremely fast and their limbs are resistant to the force they produce. Plus, like it's shown in certain games, Sonic needs a little bit of movement before going super fast. But when he doesn't use any acceleration, he isn't using all of his potential.
No, it does not because his speed of thinking and perception would accelerate with his movement, because that is the only way he could control both at the same time, so he could experience every moment at the speed he wants it to be experienced. Just because you have listened to the song "The Ballad of Barry Allen" by Jim's Big Ego, you should not assume that Barry has no control over his acceleration and perception. It is more like if you have an otpion to watch a full documentary or a highlighted version, you would prefer to watch the short version so you can spend more time with other things, same with Barry, his attention spam might became very short because he can experience time in a completely different level, so he will not spend time with anything unless it is really stimulating or important, that is how you know what a polite guy he is, acting with others as if they would not waste his time.
But what it would be like semiautomatic trigger powerd thing? Like, if you run your reaction and time perception is boosted, so even with running at 65% SoL you'd feel like 5 MPS jog, but if day is slow, you don't rush and don't even doing stuff quick, your perception is normal, but you still could notice flying bullets and stuff like that, and it would trigger your super speed time perception.
@@LordLemoncake The thing about controlling speed of perception, it really doesn't work for some scenarios. Imagine you're Barry Allen experiencing time as a normal human does while he is talking to someone. Now imagine someone 10 feet in front of him that he does not see shoots him with a gun. He is currently experiencing time at human speed, and although he can change his perception instantaneously at will, he is not going to notice the bullet coming at him since at that moment he is experiencing time as a normal human does. An additional power he would need in order to see the bullet is a subconscious part of his brain that is constantly viewing things at his maximum speed of perception. It would need to automatically alert him when something dangerous is approaching and switch his current speed of perception to its maximum. In other words, he would need a "guy in the chair" in his brain at all times, like a "spidey sense". But the spidey sense does not work in a lot of super hero scenarios, like how would his brain know to switch on his super perception from a shooter he doesn't see whose bullet is going away from him in the direction of an innocent person. Also, going back to the original scenario, if the shooter was aimed at Barry 10 feet behind him with a gun whose bullet is faster than the speed of sound, there is no way a "spidey sense" could know that bullet is approaching until it makes contact with something that attached to him (best case scenario, something like his hair or his clothes). In this case, his brain would automatically switch on his super speed perception and alert him of which direction the danger is coming from (if not he might just turn into the bullet looking for the danger) and finally be able to get out of the way. This of course would not work if he is somewhere crowded while this bullet makes contact with the hairs of the back of his head. As his perception switches to super speed, his body would need to remain in normal speed until he finds a way to not touch anybody as he is moving at this insane speed. Even then though, the heat he is producing from moving at a speed where his perception sees the bullet as stationary object in the air would burn all the people around him. Maybe he will be able to find a way to move at a speed which allows him to dodge the bullet while burning the people around him minimally to where they can survive the burns, but if he was hugging somebody as the bullet makes contact with the back of his head hairs, he would have to kill the person he is hugging to dodge the bullet. I rest my case; there is really no way to possibly make super speed work in some scenarios even with all these secondary powers.
Super speedy perception would actually be terrible in ANY circumstance. The Flash even says so himself. There was also an anime called “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” that had an opponent that could perceive time at 300x the normal speed and ended up unable to do anything while his head was being chopped off. Imagine a sword cleaving through your neck and bleeding out over the course of 15+ HOURS. Dang…
This is why the Speed Force would have to be a thing. Than again if you are normal one day and get struck by lightning, whilst also just having a wave of blown up particle accelerator pass through you, than I'd say you was The Flash.
only in superheroes movies/ comics / tv shows if a lightning hit you and or you are exposed to toxic chimicals, gamma radiation , or being crushed by a meteorite than somehow it give's you super powers but in reality you would probablly become sick/ injuered and the damage could be irreversible if you even survived .
Polaris Castillo It's actually Zoom, not Professor Zoom. Zoom is Hunter Zolomom, Wally West's archenemy who can control his own timeline. Professor Zoom is a name that is used by Reverse Flash or Eobard Thawne, Barry Allen's archenemy who actually has superspeed.
The only problem is that either his brain and/or the rest of his body would have to not be affected by his slowing down of time in order for him to do anything with it. Otherwise he'd either never notice, or he'd feel like he was in a horror movie where he was locked in his own body, unable to move, feeling and seeing the same things around him for hundreds of years.
Neapolitan Chinese Boi If your going by the tv show But I go by the comics the golden age the new 52 Godspeed is the one who can stop time becasue he is so fast
Super speed is useless without super stamina. You'll burn through your energy after a few meters. And if you trip, you'll get smeared over the streets. Better throw in invincibility as well. As well as super reflexes, as to not run into a wall.
in the old flash movie..he ate like 8 pizzas :P and when you´re running that fast i think the super reflexes comes as a freebie because everything around you is moving really slooooooooow
also if you are super fast and you're swetting than your swet will vaporize before it has the chance to cool you off and you could become dehydrated after a very short amount of time
TEcho SoulGrate Yeah and it sucks because he doesn’t have Sharingan anymore. I’m not saying he sucks as a fighter but he was more awesome with the Sharingan. :(
They didn't use him to his full potential either. He was introduced as the copycat ninja who's copied over 1,000 jutsu, yet we only see him use the same few mostly
Interestingly, The Flash has the ability to surpass the "hitting stuff and compressing the air" issue as well. It's canon that he can vibrate his body in such a way that he passes through matter. This is most commonly shown with him vibrating through solid walls without damaging them, but it could also be applied to the air in front of him, avoiding the heat problem that Kyle mentioned. Very good video!
My theory is, because they are actually full of Speed energy and it can also transfer to other things, it explains how he carries people so easily and has less air friction(air is given some Speed force upon touch so it can move away faster). Since the Speed Force is advanced kinetic energy, Flash has no problem with G's, since he can just get all necessary acceleration instantly and the same time through his body from the SF. ;)
That's true however, at least in the TV show version, Flash didn't learn how to phase through walls for a while so what about all the times before that
Super speed has always been one of my top choices when asked this question. But I have always assumed that part of having this super power includes addressing all the physics problems that would need to be addressed to make it work. Therefore your super speed super power is actually giving you a lot of bang for your buck.
You should read HG Wells short stories - many of them, whilst not really stating such explicitly, are tales about how something we might think is awesome, turn out to actually have many disastrous, real-world consequences. Which is ironic because he never seemed to realise the same thing in his ridiculous Socialist writings.
What if the "super speed" is based in slowing down time of everything except yourself rather than speeding yourself up? That solves quite alot of the issues atleast
Lol. As he was talking about the stop start function of the beatle it cut to an ad for tomb of the mask or whatever that fit so perfectly It took me 30 seconds to realize it wasn’t just an inserted clip for demonstration purposes.
1.If you had super speed could you run on air molecules because of the equal and opposite forces? 2.Could you then run in a straight line (not following the curvature of the earth) and eventually make it to a pt where you would look like you were running straight up? 3.If the flash ran at his top speed and crashed into the earth like a meteor (assuming he made through the atmosphere) how big would the crater be? You’re the best science TH-camr 👍keep it up!! (:
1) I don't think so? The gases in the atmosphere don't have the kind of attraction between its individual molecules that water and other liquids do to give them their surface tension. 2) Theoretically, yes...but you'll need a fast enough run up to a jump-off point or something because humans don't have the aerodynamics that would produce the lift needed. Basically, instead of running up, it would look like a long jump...into the sky. 3) Depends on which Flash you're talking about, Jay Garrick is the most reasonable of the lot, however, I can't remember his top off the top of my head, maybe just under lightspeed or something, that might end up with maybe a global scale disaster with the Earth getting blanketed in irradiated dust and everything with 200km or more of the impact zone vaporized by the Fusion Chain-Reaction that occurred when the old speedster went splat. Barry Allen and Wally West are far, far, far, far faster than him, the Flash feats that Kyle gave in the video are things that Barry and Wally have done. Please do take my answers with a heaping tablespoon of salt though, I'm not a physicist, nor am I even remotely knowledgeable enough to consider myself an amateur. What I am good at is visualizing results using stuff I've learned in the past and scaling them to fit the scenario.
I like the reply above, but I'll chip in with my own answers for fun. Physics student here, go Terriers! That being said, I'm doing no math for anything and really only applying conceptual thinking here so I could be wrong. 1. Good idea, but the mechanics of walking on something has a lot to do with the other object's acceleration once you apply a force. For example, the reason we can walk on the Earth and not fall is because the Earth's mass hardly moves when we apply a force on it to walk, thereby allowing us to sustain "lift" if you will. Its lack of repulsion from us allows us to continue walking. This is not the case with air molecules. If you tried to apply a large force to walk on air molecules, or any force really, the air molecules would be pushed away much more and much faster and thus you would lose the molecules beneath your feet and fall. The air molecules would apply an equally large force on you, but because you are so massive compared to the molecules your acceleration would be minimal. So you are like the Earth and the air is like you, acceleration wise. 2. Exactly what Tsurf said. Knowing that you can't run on air, it would be a long jump if you could even get the initial velocity/momentum required. 3. The fastest Flash top speed belongs to Wally West, if I'm not mistaken (pre-Rebirth). His top speed was calculated by some other TH-camr (one of the comic guys) to be on the order of 275 trillion times the speed of light, which Kyle referenced in this video when he mentioned the Flash beating instantaneousness itself. Basically, he beat an instant teleporter in a footrace to save Earth. Now, obviously that is ridiculous so to keep things within the realm of possibility let's cap Flash's top speed at 0.9999c, or 99.99% the speed of light. With that speed, assuming he loses minimal momentum/energy to the atmosphere, and assuming his mass to be 79 kg, AND assuming he transferred ALL of his kinetic energy into the Earth, then he would impart about 502 exajoules, which is 502 times 10^18 joules. That is the relativistic kinetic energy, for those interested. I'm not entirely sure what the shape or diameter of the crater would be, but it would be VERY deep and likely very wide, but the emphasis is on DEEP for a reason. That impact would impart the energy of almost 8 MILLION atomic bombs like the one dropped on Hiroshima. It would certainly kill most if not all surface life and near-surface aquatic life with ash, fallout, shock waves, etc. Okay, I used some math. Whatever :P Tl;dr Everyone Dies^TM
I would just like to add to the second question that once you exceed 11180 km/s you would literally just fly off the Earth due to exceeding the Earth's escape velocity. And with regards to question three...well, if I choose the same top speed as ANGRYpooCHUCKER, 99.99% the speed of light, I don't think our beloved planet would be left afterwards. PS. ANGRYpooCHUCKER, you forgot to remove the resting mass of the relativistic total energy, so what you have is not the total kinetic energy, but the total kinetic energy + mass energy. The total kinetic energy ends up being 495 EJ, just though I'd point that out.
Considering that the space shuttle or any other rocket for that matter launches into space with nowhere near the speed versus mass, just running at the velocity that the flash for his relative mass would cause you to leave orbit because you are missing the curvature of the earth.

Would even be possible to feed the metabolism of a Speedster? The caloric needs for that amount of energy would be an immense. Also wouldn't that extremely high metabolism age you equally High rate?
Heh, I'll hope it is a certain SF weapon.

Or wouldn't you traveling at super speed create your own gravity (like planets moving at high speeds in space) and pull everything towards you?
I think you’re wrong : what about weight lifters that lift way more than their weight then ?
I would rather say the maximum force you can apply is the force the ground can support before breaking under your feet, which is still way way less than the billions Newtons required
As you approach the speed of light you do increase in mass, this is called relativistic mass but AFAIK it doesn't change your rest mass which means the gravitational interactions between you and the earth aren't affected from an outsider reference frame.

@@ZaqueX6969 but that's the thing that,
THAT'S NOT THE CASE, Cuz that's not super speed which flash has
Every speedster in DC has that problem, their perception of time is ridiculously slow because of their insane speed
One thing that has always confused me is how speedsters like the Flash don't go insane due to their perception of time.
They can perceive it as normal unless they are running
In the Justice League cartoon that was the biggest fear Flash has.
they don't move at superspeed everytime they try to move, the same should aply to their brain and stuff, they can turn it on and off

I think this would be more of a problem for Marvel’s Quicksilver than for The Flash the speed force gives Flash a protective bubble to stop friction and the suit is specifically designed to not burn up after running whereas Quicksilver is a mutant who’s only power is speed Flash would be fine though
Not really during Silver age times. Quicksilver was a "reasonable" 175 MPH. Then they inflated his perfomances.
@spoodey7963 that speed was only referenced in a quite inaccurate handbook from the time, I'm pretty sure the handbook said things like 10 tons being spider-man's max lifting potential, even though it is contradicted in comics from the era featuring him lifting tanks, which usually weigh 60 tons, as for quicksilver, the 175mph and even the mach 1 or 10 attributed to him is contradicted by feats from the silver to bronze ages have him scouring a 10 mile area in seconds, evacuating an entire military complex full of soldiers in the literal blink of an eye (a lot like the FOX'S x-men movies quicksilver), dodging bullets, keep in mind the handbook said his reaction speed is equal to his movement speed, and even FTL feats like dodging cyclops optic beams, even to the point of side-stepping a point blank one, there's alsp the time he outsped refracted light, as well as the time he blitzed the living laser, who is a lightspeed villain, (if you want official material referencing quicksilver's actual speed outside of in-universe characters referring to him as "the fastest man alive" [which would be impossible for anyone ranging from car speeds to the machs considering the many FTL and beyond characters on marvel's earth alone] there is the official marvel website that rates quicksilver's speed at a 7, which means FTL [not the unofficial fan wiki that most refer to] as well as a writer statement that says that quicksilver is at least among the top fastest in the marvel universe) and since an upgrade in the late 90's, quicksilver has only been getting faster, although i don't think he'll surpass barry nor especially wally
That 175mph would be great in a more realistic and grounded superhero universe, though like say..... if matt reeves batman universe suddenly had flash (without a speedforce) in it lol (imagine that, it'd be weird to see a realistic take on flash that doesn't wave stuff away with: "speedforce i aint gotta explain it")
I didn't mean to sound rude by nerding out on you, as i don't mind limited speedsters like the kid from incredibles, but i had the compulsion to tell you that quicksilver wasn't ever that slow outside of the intent in the moment where the character was first created, tbh i think that quicksilver, alongside jay garrick is in the running for the most underrated speedster lol
@@ThirdEchelonAgent I don't want to be that guy but Cyclops Optic Beams aren't lasers, so dodging them isn't a FTL feat, as even Magneto early on could dodge them. @projekttaku1 idk if I can link stuff, cause my comments with links tend to disappear, but cyclops' blasts have been stated to move at lightspeed multiple times, even though they aren't lasers

But... the thoughts and ideas of superpowers still remain within the fabrics of our imagined worlds, they still exist, as dreams.
All he did was state that super speed in the real world is impractical, if not impossible. In the comics, books, tv and film, his science are all meant to be broken. I take it all with a grain of salt. Some fictional scientific discoveries have become a reality. Super powers on the other hand is entirely a whole different issue.
There's another problem: the heart beating would kill you
The issue with super perception that usually goes with speedsters in many comics is that it's not really an on off thing.
@@void-wx4fs The Speed force allows to travel in time so partial effect is not unlikely
Well it would be some kind of cyborg technology so I'd imagine it has an on/off switch.
i would love to have doubled or tripled perception of time. that would be already enough to be super human in almost every way (you can learn things 3 times as fast, you have reaction times 3 times as fast, you can think 3 times as fast and so on), and life would feel 3 times as long.
the downside is that every non-natural light source would be flickery as f***
It would be so cool, you had your subconsciousness reacting at any danger or emergency and switch your consciousness to the time perception rate, when running at speed of 50% of speed of light would feel like casual jogging.
Problem is, you'll have to learn to operate with with world in both common and speedster time perception rates, because when real second feels like a year thing would work differently.
@@Gamfluent gift and curse trope.

It's why most fictional speedsters already have this kind of power; the Flash, Superman, Quicksilver, and etc all think and view time "normally" in accordance to their speed.

I’m surprised that he didn’t cover the amount of kilocalories he would need to generate that much energy and speed.
Mainly because walking itself is rather energy efficient (as in, 1000 steps requires only 40 kcal), but also, when you run in a straight line, then your running also doesn't use much energy. This mainly comes from changing momentum, so speeding up, slowing down or changing direction
Or running on water, if you could somehow achieve running speed of more than 120 km/h
Dr Shaym and the entire atmosphere would almost instantly burn up bc of the immense amount of heat you’d be giving off

In a comic book that I'm going to be writing about a Superman-like character and speedster characters,I'm going to have the speedster-characters all wear specialized suits(and helmets) that protect them from the intense friction that running and moving at super-speed would create.

Not necessarily
He mention it in teleportation video, according to speed, every time you start running and stop running, there will be bang, because of pressure or sonic speed, in other way it means shockwave, it means pain, and you need better protection as he said, so you cant run silently like in movies, even he was talking about jumping/teleporting from place to place he was talking about moving speed. Thats why he didnt mention it again in his video.

the clothes burning off is actually something of an annoying plot hole(?) in the flash TV series.

BitMoreDave the speed force gives him energy
Also the flashes metabolism is also super fast. the food wouldn't transfer at the same rate anyway.
That sounds much more possible, and kinda cool, I'm thinking of something like Cerebro with more needles in it.
uhmm .. I don't remember asking for my childhood dreams to be crushed. I think I got someone else's order.

Correct me if I'm wrong Flash fans, but doesn't the Speed Force impart protections for any user as they move? Like, faster they go more durable they become to endure anything at thsoe speeds?
Well I didn't actually meant it made them more durable haha but thanks for the info
This is what I don't like about it. Somebody said "Oh, hey, let's make a character that can go really fast." Then someone else said "That wouldn't work... because science." Then the first person said "Ok, he also gets access to a force solely for the purpose of allowing him to negate all the science... and we'll call it the speed force."
Some people have much a lack of imagination. I would have much preferred the character to work out a way to deal with the physics with ingenuity rather than some cheat force.
Draco Safarius yes sir you are correct
Jake Miller you looking at it the wrong way and besides the speed force... it's a huge loop hole for writers and creators alike and the genius that create it was creative in not just explaining off the bat but giving it secrets and complexity
They use the speed force aura to protect them from debris and forces that would normally harm them or stop them from using their power
yes, this super perception would be really good, anyway one of the reasons why I always found super speed one of the best powers, you simply have unlimited time
I think since characters like Sonic are born and made with super speed powers, their brain can think extremely fast and their limbs are resistant to the force they produce. Plus, like it's shown in certain games, Sonic needs a little bit of movement before going super fast. But when he doesn't use any acceleration, he isn't using all of his potential.
The Tiger Beetle.
There is that problem with super perception that every moment will feel be unbearably long.... even when he doesn't want it to.
From Red Rush (Invincible) seconds feels like days...

My theory is, because they are actually full of Speed energy and it can also transfer to other things, it explains how he carries people so easily and has less air friction(air is given some Speed force upon touch so it can move away faster). Since the Speed Force is advanced kinetic energy, Flash has no problem with G's, since he can just get all necessary acceleration instantly and the same time through his body from the SF. ;)

Whatever :P
Tl;dr Everyone Dies^TM

When I saw the thumbnail I thought Thor was gonna tell me about super speed..
Same
He looks kinda like Thor 🤣
LMAO SAME
This is one of the dopest videos on TH-cam. Carry on.
