Ohh man. This knife. This knife speaks to me. I seriously for 15 mins or so heavily debated breaking out the wife's credit card to get me one cause I sleep on the couch anyways. Then I realized things could get much worse. I could be sleeping in a van down by the river. Beautiful knife, really tempting.

3:28 wish there weren't any gaps around the pins. And that huge sharpening notch, which doesn't even clear the plunge grind.

    • @aldenunion

This blade isn't cut out and grinded to bevel.,is hammer tapered bevel in which Compacted the Molecules for superb edge retention.
That is hammer made plunge line.
Are many paths to take ,and just do not see truth anymore unless one does it oneself.
I have a Chamarro Se'Se from 1914,hammer forged dream, there is just nothing even close.
The finest knife you can find, most are common cheating, not compacting that edge bevel.
      They grind,dip,grind,dip..
Many use a hammer to forge a blade, but few take the time to do the bevel..
Watching this,I have a piece of antique 5160 from an old Willy's .
Just screaming for that exact profile.
I will really put the time in.
Still might hawk a few Goodies and still try one of these, never can have to many.lol..
Many claim they used a hammer to forge the blade.(Hammered the belt on the belt grinder.)..lol...
I am sure he used a grinder, but to final finish, can tell edge was hand tapered

It's the knife version of a Dan Wesson 1911; top notch fit and finish, will work flawlessly as long as you take care of it, but so gorgeous that you feel bad for using it

Something to keep in mind folks. Lon is a Journeyman Bladesmith who makes custom hand forged knives heat treated in HIS own shop, not sent to Peters or anything, and you get those knives for a semi-custom price. To me that is a steal! When Lon gets his Master Bladesmith, his prices will go up as expected, and any work he has out there will go up in value as well.

I would take 52100 instead of 3V, everyday and 2 on Sundays. Sharpens easier and holds it's edge longer than 3V reaches the edge holding ability of Stainles super steels and it sharpens really fast and easy. No other steel out there, has that relation, of ease of sharpening-edge retention. Has many and small carbides, that makes it cut way smoother than what you see on this video. This knife needs sharpening and a bit of edge convexing, like all Saber flat grinds need! This is a custom, which means it needs it more than factory knives do. 52100, doesn't take microchips like 3V does. I wish Bark River hadn't stop making 52100 steel knives.Imagine a Bravo 1 LT in 52100, or a Gunny, that would be more user friendly, and wouldn't take chips, like 3V and Elmax do...

I am surprised only one review on TH-cam on this knife, Also there is nothing wrong with 52100 steel. I own 2 CPM 3V knives from LT Wright a Outback and Bushbaby 3V , they are a good steel but they are more expensive and harder to re sharpen which I do not like . Lon Humphrey used 52100 for it is easier to hammer forge and costs less, in 3V this Alpha would sell close to $400 in price , not worth it to me , 52100 is expensive enough and it is a good steel. If this was in 1095 or 01 steel it would even cost less which would be nice.
