- The So-Called Travel Expert brings you an epic train journey from Heidelberg (Germany) to London by high speed trains (ICE & Eurostar). The ICE train between Frankfurt and Brussels achieves speeds up to 300km/h between Frankfurt & Cologne, and 250km/h between Aachen and Brussels. The Eurostar between Brussels and London also travels at speeds up to 300 km/h.
If you book the tickets in advance (3-4 months), the train journey tickets are cheaper than flying from Frankfurt to London Heathrow. The advantage is that the Eurostar train arrives in central London (Zone 1), which eliminates the hassle of taking the underground tube from Heathrow airport to Central London. If you are a tourist, you can also use the opportunity to take a short stopover in Brussels and explore the tourist sites.
Travel times are as follows:
Heidelberg - Frankfurt ~50 min
Frankfurt - Brussels ~3 h
Brussels - London ~2h

Thanks for sharing this video. 👏🥳📖
Thank you!!
🚝🚈🚄🚅 great trip for train and speed lovers!
Thank you!
Superb!
Thank you!
Nice video! Little man didn’t say much.. hope you all had fun 👌
Thanks for watching...we enjoyed the train travel into central London.. much more comfortable than flying cattle class to airports outside London.
I would really like a direct service from London with no changing trains. Just stops but no changing.
Not possible due to U.K. immigration requirements, U.K. is not in the Schengen area or EU for that matter. German place names pronunciation not bad!
Would have been a smashing video if the way from ICE platforms to channel terminal had been shown … for those in a hurry … and have never switched trains there before. But good clip.
Thanks for watching... it's actually quite straightforward. The ICE trains usually arrive on Platform 7 or 8. All you need to do is walk down the stairs/lift towards Platform 1 where the Eurostar Terminal is located...a walk of 5 min. maximum.
Which part of India are you from Sir??
Nice scenic train ride, very well taken by your camera sir, Thank you for giving me a chance to travel with you & your kid. 🙏
Thanks for watching...
There seems to be a route from Mannheim to Paris by TGV and then to London by Eurostar. Is there a specific reason why you travelled via Brussels instead?
Thanks for watching... amongst others, there were 2 main reasons we chose the Frankfurt - Brussels - London route
(1) Convenience of transfer: At Paris, one needs to change from Gare de l'Est to Gare du Nord (Eurostar terminal), which is a 15 min walk or 1 metro station away. This might be easy
for regular travellers, but perhaps not for first time travellers. At Brussels, the Eurostar terminal is at the same location where trains from Germany arrive (Bruxelles Midi)
(2) in my opinion, tickets from Frankfurt to Brussels are usually cheaper than to Paris (Eurostar prices to London are similar whether from Paris or Brussels). Hope this helps.
@@socalled.travelexpert This makes sense, thank you for your reply!
hii I know this is a bit late 😭 but please may I know how long the journey was? and does BREXIT affect the travel process in any way
The train journey durations are mentioned between 00:17 - 00:30 and 01:10 - 01:25 in the video. Regarding check-in for Eurostar, 90 min were more than sufficient (using automated gates with children is anyways not possible). On the way back from London to Brussels, there were no further immigration checks after arrival in Brussels (these were done at London, St Pancras itself). So you can just disembark from the Eurostar and catch the onward train... hope this helps.
Do I need a visa after having a German resident permit
Depends on your nationality...if you're a citizen of a non- OECD country, most likely you will need a tourist visa.
Sir, I have 46kgs to take from Germany to UK, will the trains allow me to take that much baggage ?
You are allowed 2 large bags and 1 small bag for free... please check the Eurostar website for guidance on bag dimensions
Hi, if I am on a student visa from India and studing masters in Germany.... And if i wish to visit UK what all are necessary documents required to go and be back to Germany
You need a valid UK visa, and I assume you also have a valid residence permit for Germany (for the way back)
@@socalled.travelexpert how much dOes it cost for uk visa from Germany
Do they check the passport at the border of London?
Thanks for watching...Yes, passport control is at London St. Pancras when traveling to Europe, and at Amsterdam/Brussels or Paris (depending on your departure station) when traveling to the UK.
What was the total cost per pax ??
Thanks for watching...it cost ~€175 for a return ticket (booked 3 months in advance for travel during the Christmas week).
