I love how video games graphics have progressed to the point of "hyper" realism, that going back to the PS1 and PS2 aesthetics is so cathartic especially if you're a millennial or early gen z.
@@Agret fr don’t know a game this good for graphics on ps2 but he’s right this is an awesome change I hope this gets a trend and picked up by some big game developers
this game looks insane, really excited for it. I love the dark tone and how you're in debt, it has none of this light-hearted happy festival crap found in modern racing games
"Drew like a dark, fucked up version of a racing game haha. Just a glimpse into my dark reality. A full stare into my twisted perspective would make most simply go insane lmao."
ehh lighthearted is fine, those games are celebrating the cars. however a more appropriate atmosphere like your car getting stolen, or a run in with a crew that decides to use violence or debt is fine, just not too dark. game is cool im seeing some odd horror pieces in here tho kinda throws off the look hes going for but it matches the story ig
A new racing game with a distinct and interesting art style? No bland summer festival vibe BS like from the crew/forza? Has to be the first one in years, awesome
I always dreamt of something like this. Modern game, but older style engine. With all the tech we have, we can make something even more perfect with those older style games. Like Most Wanted for example. Imagine a game with that same engine and graphics but with better physics, 60fps, and a different map/cars/story
@@charlesanderson1321 I on the contrary would wanna play Midnight Club 2 or 3 (even 1). I miss those old school racing games where you were an actual illegal street racer and not some festival participant
@@swagonometry9893 Same. Its the best one imo. I loved those cocky cutscenes from the other racers before each race. I love how they all had a song to define them as well. So cool
this looks cool as shit! reminds me of a dark spoopy version of Toyko Xtreme Racer/ Import Tuner Challenge/ & the Wangan MidnNight Maximum Tune Games i love it! been waiting for a good spiritual Successor to the TXR series
I love the look of these 80s/90s VHS effects but they are not fitting with the year the game is set in which is 2007 apparently. HD digital cameras existed then, VHS was super outdated. If the game was set in the 90s this would've been fitting and super cool. I think they should have gone for a old-school digital camera look, like the early TH-cam videos with tons of video compression. Still awesome looking game though.
Agreed, it's out of place. But it fits the aesthetic for sure, some dudes were still running VHS cams and what not for simplicity/affordability. I have a VHS cam that looks great compared to digital cameras of its time.
In another recent video on TH-cam, at the end of a race there's a freeze frame exterior shot of the car with a date stamp in the corner that says 1994. So I am not quite sure what time period the game is "really" supposed to be taking place in. Or it could just be an intentionally nebulous, surreal, 90's/2000's a e s t h e t i c mashup.
Yeah. imma need to keep my eye on this project. This looks freakin' awesome. Love how the faces and plates are censored. This aesthetic and artstyle is right up my alley.
I think all it needs is some small changes, such as increased variety in traffic vehicles, and having the Yen counter go up and down faster than it is shown. It’s nice to see a change in what we have been seeing for years
the FOV on foot is obnoxiously too close and the FOV while driving in third person goes back too far. the first person cam while driving is minorly flawed by the height. the player should see more of their steering wheel and less of the ceiling. the majority of the screen effects are unnecessary. the fundamentals of the game seem very good, I just hope it releases with a cleaner appearance or at least gives the option to adjust these things.
I agree with most of what you said, but the screen effects are perfect. They're necessary for the vibe the game is going for, which seems to be a dreamy surreal racing game set in the 90s. It fits
They are trying to mimic an aesthetic with the close on foot fov from the test drive games also a far pov gives way better sense of speed and there are probably multiple camera follow angles.
The Dev said it will have multiple maps with different types of races so I guess the goal of the game is to race to pay a set debt on each map, once you pay your debt on the highway map for example, you move on to the mountain pass map and so on. But the thing is in some footage we can see that sometimes there's someone who can remove all the debt if we lose a race
This is great! My only complaint is with the audio-the horns in particular. I don’t know how “realism” this game is trying to be, but my first reaction when someone blows by me on the highway isn’t to get on the horn. I think some people definitely would beep if they saw someone coming in advance (eg. driving the wrong way) but when outpacing traffic driving in the same direction I feel like it happens too frequently and would get a little annoying. Love the aesthetic of this game, look forward to updates!
definitely a couple things need work like how far back the camera goes in 3rd person, how long it takes for money to be changed, obvious normal work like different traffic cars and more npc animation, oil change needs some sort of simple animation or quicker load time, a more interesting loading screen than a time, and lastly i think, a proper navigation line or arrow that follows the road to destination and not just the destination. Wheels also seem very large on the npc cars. Now for the goods, super high quality cars and very unique mods like custom sub setup or tunnel hatch on that S13, the story is definitely going to be great, the shop is pretty nice, just gotta have a censor option for the profanity cause someone's gonna complain and ruin it for all of us
I kinda like that slow indie horror vibe. Maybe a bit too slow but that's still refreshing after all the big expensive flashy AAA racing games of today.
WOW What a 🐓 tease! Just when it was getting good. I have 0 expectations of this game ever coming out. I still hope and pray it will. This looks awsome.
nah this is actually sick af. The little details with blurring the plates of the raceable cars and blurring the faces of everyone is so classic. I can't wait to see this take off
This game have Gran Turismo 1/2 vibes with Need for Speed Underground aesthetic, I hope it grow more and more and the creator add a lot of nice gameplay features in it
It's a brilliant nod to games like Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero. The tone is very cool as well. The only things really messing with me is that it's awful dark on the roads which washes out the aesthetic, and the visual stretch that occurs at speed is a little too distorted. It breaks the immersion.
Ahhhh the good old days. Before they ruined the Beaufort Beautiful view at Tatsumi with the barriers. This game looks brilliant for anyone who can't afford to experience the real thing in Japan.

I usually play most of my games on a CRT for the old school feel. But a lot of old-school styled games don't take into account that a CRT can't display small text. If this game had an option to increase text size it would be very sick for CRT gaming
