      Unlisted means the target demographic sees it, and restricts other demographic from interacting (specifically disliking / commenting on the video).
      eg. guys like the guys in the videos commenting and disliking the video.

      They're not made for everyone. They're made for the Cosmo audience. The way you have an effective campaign is by making something as relatable as possible to your demographic so that the message resonates with the viewer. It's the same reason the same company advertises different advertisements on different channels and in different countries. It's also the reason food companies use different amounts of salt and other ingredients in different countries. Not everyone is the same.

    I worked at a car dealership last summer as a receptionist. This happened all the time. I would be at my desk working , and the salesmen would always approach me and rub my shoulders. They’d go as far as to ask me about my sex life and “grooming habits”. When I finally had enough and quit, my manager told me “I presume you’re quitting because you aren’t cut out for the aggressiveness of the car industry”. Fuck that shithole.

    You know, some of these Ads and videos are kind of whiney and unrealistic, but this hit it right on the head and is very powerful. It's tragic but this happens so often. Guys have to remember that just because we get along well with a girl at work does NOT mean it's ok to cross that line when joking or playing Around. She went from happy and comfortable to totally bothered and most likely questioned whether it's her fault or if she's overreacting. This needs to stop.

    Love what David Schwimmer is doing with his post-Friends superpowers. I hope he and his team produces another series showing victims of sexual harassment responding in an empowered way. Women need to see examples of strong, self-confident women calling out inappropriate behavior, to replace the old model of compliant female out to please, to smooth over an awkward situation and suppress her own feelings at any cost. Fabulous work. Thank you.

    One of the reasons why people are saying you should speak up is because the reality is that not all females will have as big a problem with something like this. "My body, my rules", sometimes females simply do not care if you touch them like that. Sometimes stuff like this doesn't get reported because they truly aren't bothered by it.
    But that's the problem. Some males will take that experience, and think that it will apply with other females if they don't express that same type of reaction. In a perfect world, it just shouldn't happen at all, unless proper consent is given beforehand, in which case it's fair game.

    I have a genuine request...what do you do once you recognize it as happening? Yes, the videos point out what we may have questioned as a problem, but no one has equipped us with the tools to know how to handle it. Awareness is not going to change things over night, so in the meantime, what does a woman do?

    • @TrentRidley
      @TrentRidley 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Surprised nobody has responded to your question yet. Understand that I'm no expert on these matters. I'm just a guy, one that hasn't been the victim nor perpetrator of such behaviour, but for what it's worth I'll give you my thoughts on the matter.
      First of all, I think your response should depend heavily on the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. For now lets take the scenario presented in this video. The woman, having just started a new job, doesn't know the guy. He's creeping all over her but she sort of uncomfortably gives him the benefit of the doubt at first, then the D.J. leaves and it seems they're left alone. Then he assaults her again (nibbles on her ear). Throughout, he's also giving off a very passive-aggressive vibe and to me he comes off as potentially dangerous if presented with opportunity, which having been left alone with her, he now has. Under these circumstances, I think you need to get out of there immediately. Like I said, you don't know the guy and that passive-aggressive vibe can turn to overt physical aggression on a dime, so leave. In the video he's about to leave the room, that's your cue to leave the premises. Otherwise, make an excuse if you have to - tell him you're going to the bathroom; tell him you need to grab such-and-such from your car and simply don't return. Call the manager/owner as soon as possible to report what occurred, how you felt, and exactly why you left. Be clear, if you feared being raped, say so. And don't downplay it by saying something like, "I might be overreacting, but I thought he might rape me or something." Say it clearly and in no uncertain terms, "I left work because I was scared that he was going to rape me." It's a big accusation to make against somebody I know, but your only obligation is to keep yourself safe....and quite honestly, if the guy's like the one in this video and giving you the impression that he could be dangerous then fuck him, any hit he might take to his reputation is his own sleazeball scumbag fault. You may also want to involve the police, particularly if the manager/owner doesn't seem to take you seriously. This might seem a relatively trivial matter to involve the police in, but he may have a prior record or he may have done this sort of thing to any number of women that haven't reported it. Another thing to consider is the fact that the crimes of sexual predators often escalate to more serious forms over time as they get away with one crime, then another, and become emboldened - he might not stop at groping next time or with the next woman.
      I know that all of this is more easily said than done, but it's how I think you should handle such a situation. Given the unfortunate prevalence of such behaviour, I also think it would be valuable for all women to mentally rehearse these types of scenarios and how they'll respond to them. By doing so, I think you'd be far less likely to freeze or be uncertain of what to do. Instead, you'd react as rehearsed and in doing so, you'd keep yourself safe. One final bit of advice, if you sense you might be in a dangerous situation react to that gut feeling and remove yourself from it if you can. If you were wrong, no big deal, but if you are right and you don't react you might be left with a lot of regret and pain to heal.
      Anyway, I've gone on way too long already but I hope you can take something useful from this. Like I said, I think your response will vary depending on the exact circumstances, so if you'd like to discuss other scenarios - say, an office setting with other people around; a guy you know Vs a guy you don't know; or whatever - just say the word......and may you never find yourself in such a situation.

      I think it's important for men to realize that even though they haven't engaged in behavior like this themselves because maybe they're decent people, that there are many men who do. Don't discredit the experiences of millions upon millions of women who have most certainly experienced this in their workplace. I for one have experienced many different variations of this exact behavior at the restaurant I work in as a hostess. I think it's because my job has to do with me looking nice and presenting myself well every day that men think it's okay to talk to me at work like I'm a piece of meat, comment on how "sexy I am" or how they would "tap that" if we weren't working together, or put their hand on my thigh when I'm sitting next to them cleaning menus. And for those who wonder why it can be hard for women to stand up for themselves in a situation like this, I have in the past called out my boss, for example, for saying something like "Watch where you bend over like that or you'll get me in trouble" (when I was placing menus on a lowtop table), to which he gets defended by other coworkers saying "That's just how So-And-So is, don't let it bother you." In reading the comments I've seen several accounts of people having experienced similar situations as the one depicted in this video, with many of them reporting regret for not having reacted, for not having stood up for themselves, etc. To those people, I just want to ask why you didn't respond the way you wish you had? What went through your thoughts? What emotions were you feeling? Did you fear angering the other person? Did you freeze? Were you too young to fully recognize what was going on? Were you unsure of what you should do? Etc?
    Understand that in asking the above questions I'm not casting any blame upon you, the victim. I just have a genuine interest in gaining further insight and understanding on this issue. Thanks, and may you never again find yourselves in a situation such as this.

      As a victim experiencing similar situations, all the questions you asked (fear of angering, froze, too shock and young to fully recognize what was going on, unsure what to do)were the emotions and thoughts that going on in my head

    • @TrentRidley
      @TrentRidley 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wei Lan, thanks for your reply.
      No pressure, but if you feel comfortable to share your experience further I'd like for you to tell me more about the situation(s) you've had and for you to elaborate if you can on how you reacted at the time and even afterwards. Also, with time to reflect how do you wish you had of reacted?
      The reason I'm asking these questions is that, although I consider myself to be a very empathetic person, as a man I also appreciate that there is a level upon which I may never understand this issue because I'm never likely to experience it, or at least aspects of it such as the fear of physical harm, myself. That being the case, I think the best way to gain insight into it is to ask questions and then listen, listen, listen....and hear.

      TrentRidley when something like this happened to me, I said no and physically tried to resist but he was too strong for me. There were other people in the room but I didn't want to make a huge scene and I didn't know if they would believe me or come to my aid. If they didn't help, that would embolden my harasser.

One little thing though the guy is right on one thing : "keep your hands off me" snap would have been less awkard than this whole scene. I feel bad being born male for so much of those reason. Sometimes, too often I'm ashamed of my gender.

      You should never be ashamed of who you are, just because some guy was overdoing his skills, doesn't mean all guys are like that. I personally, am a very collective, and quiet person. For some reason no girls like me, but this guy, you can tell gets ladies regardless of being like this. Is it right? Well, to some it is and not. Everyone is different, that girl should have spoken up saying your making me feel.uncomfortable now, our something. Just saying, what do you expect to happen working at a bar? Every girl, will always get hit on, same goes for a gay at a gay bar. Nothing is fair, but at least we can know our boundaries, and now when to speak up

    This video is so sadly on point with demonstrating ways men harass women. Words should be reserved and respectful, hands to yourself, eyes up at the face pal. I dislike feminism in most of its modern forms, but I stand by the concept and ideals of a "chivalrous man", and it is sad low men will go these days over their sexual urges.
    If you think a girl is good looking, tell her she is beautiful. If you'd like to go out with her/get to know her better, ask her if she'd like too. If you would like "20 minutes of action", again, be open, respectful of context/the situation, and ask her.
    Then take your answer, respect the decision (negative or positive, respect it), and be willing to live with it in humility. Take action against those who do not do these things, make it clear that their actions will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and if they still decide they want their "20 minutes of action", make sure that it could also be 20 minutes till they land in hell.

Men have it tough as well, but apparently women have to say that all the time before they're allowed to speak about their problems.

    • @everythingisrelativeok8108
      @everythingisrelativeok8108 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cifuentes M The point is that these are people problems and not a gender problem. However sexual harassment is often framed as a gender problem so when it is framed as a gender problem and aimed at one gender it can seem exclusionary. Also the mainstream media narrative of man bad woman weak is pervasive, which when you couple it with 6 videos showing just that and someone mentions maybe some of those videos should represent another aspect the fact you are so defensive may reveal something about you. No one is trying silence you.

    • @pooheadlou
      @pooheadlou 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Then do the same and make your own videos have a discussion. But just coming here or there and saying that it's a, people problem and that it's not a gender problem; is one of the most disingenuous things you could say, and in doing so instantly negating how much this affects women of all agers. No one is saying that men don't ever get harassed. The question is, is it the same type of harassment. I would not think so. But this is the job, to make it clear. The what and how of it. I mean do you often get women rubbing themselves against you when you're working, or calling you names when you ignore them as your walking down the street; keep in mind that you don't even know these women, is this something that happens a lot to men? Do these types of actions make men fearful or even frightened of your life, like they can in some women?
