    She is a genius. This is exactly right. It is an illusion. A horse is always stronger than you. It is about leadership and cooperation.

    • @jpdj2715
      @jpdj2715 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Leadership that was built on trust and respect, I would add. As a man, looking at your alias, my prejudice says there is a male notion in there. Not a problem in itself, but could be. We, including myself, have to be aware that human women may not be seen as a threat to their lives by these prey animals. This was discovered by researchers when their lab rats became nervous when a male caretaker entered the room and the animals did not get nervous when a female entered. So we may have to go to greater length to build trust. In that starting position, we are handicapped (as in golf) relative to most women, especially when the horse individual has a higher fear level - it may want to run away, do nothing or fight us, depending on its character. Or a bolder individual horse will start a conflict for a dominant position with us. This all, when women are inclined to treat the horse as a big toddler and seemingly have no problems. Our biggest pitfall is to step into the relation with an individual horse from the instinct to be the boss and overlook the horse's individual character. I sense, women start with the character, minding the dominance in a subtle way.

    I adopted a horse fresh off the track and she fought (and won) against every trainer who tried to control her. She'd put her head high and gran the bit and run, and when I bought a bitless bridle everyone thought I was crazy, but the ride was much smoother and honest. She taught people who didn't give up on her the value of gentle patience and proper communication. Very cool video. I love your Friesian

    It always amazes me watching such a powerful animal standing there waiting for you to put on his bridle. Some people don't realise that without the horse we would not be here today! Love how you keep saying "if your horse decides to cooperate with you".... That's what its all about! :) Thank you for sharing!

    Interesting- years ago I rode bit less with a ‘hackamore’ but it would squeeze the jaw and nose quite a lot. What you’re using is more like a leash on a dog- more signals and vibration than any sort of force. 👍

    I love, admire and respect the incredible knowledge, passion and empathy you/Mia have/has not only for horses, but also people who want to learn. I'm so greatful your/her students get to develop skills I never did as a kids. Hopefully more will be inspired and horses (and ppl) will have far better safer lives. During all of my years with horses I've sadly never met anyone like you/her, and I, especially, don't even have a fraction of your/her abilities. Recently found this channel and instantly became a fan.
    But why use bridles at all? My concern would be that the rider might think it's okay to use a lot of force through the bridle since it's not hurting the horse as much as a bit would. But it could still cause damage, it still has metal and so on? :/ Plus then how do you (you=us/students) communicate with them in that moment and how does that impact the horse/human relationship? Wouldn't you still risk creating that dynamic of threats/force/some pain vs. mutual respect, calm patience and clear directions? Even if the person has good intentions, it's a lot easier to take short cuts and maybe go back to possibly old habbits (if they like me, for instance, grew up riding english with bit) with a bridle is what I'm thinking. If the horse might do something during a ride, maybe there is more of the basic work to be done first?

    Please google bitless bridle. There are almost as many types as bits now! And with varying degrees of harshness too. Some can be quite brutal. You need to suit your horse and your needs and wants. Ie newly started, transitioning from bitted to bitless etc. First time I've watched you Mia, and I loved it 🥰 I will check out the rest of your videos. I'm bitless in the UK. X

    Aww my special 💖 horse always goes bitless, i just clip reins onto a rope halter that i made a super soft thick noseband for. She recently tested positive for EPM so i wont be able to ride her for a while but shes getting tons of loving from the ground. Its soooo heartbreaking to see her struggle through her daily exercises. The sad helpless look in her eyes is clear as day. Im determined to get her through it so we can hit the trails! She actually comes up and just watches me ride another horse like she wants to be in there with me so bad😢

    Growing up we had horse "patches", we (as in: dad until we got bigger) never used bit. Then we got thoroughbred from Portland Meadows Racer track. She became almost pet like patches, then she had a baby! So we got extra horse out of deal! An baby really was a pet followed us around, kids played games of tag around all three. So I was raised with not bit. There was bit on wall bit no one used it just bareback pad & head gear! Then I got another horse that was all mine, that's another story!

      I think you have to be careful ,a lot of these bridle designs are now patented. But as a bitless rider, in the UK , access to a leather worker/ saddler, who could do a bridle to suit my horse would be invaluable. Do put yourself out there on your local media or bitless groups. Im sure you would get loads of interest.

    I just really think you make so much sense when you take about cooperation from a horse. If your horse absolutely refuses to cooperate and submit then no amount of equipment will accomplish that goal. Of course there are cruel people who will beat an animal into submission but then you don’t have cooperation, you have a scared animal who can’t trust you. THATS SICK! You have a wonderful way of showing how things can and should be done to get the results you want.
