Story 2: All restaurant owners should allow their managers to drop the hospitality act and throw out disruptive customers. I'm sure that would only increase business from customers who want an enjoyable eating experience.

    • @vanillablossom

This! I'm from Europe, where most countries don't have big tip culture, since staff is paid accordingly and doesn't need to rely on tips to get by (though in recent years whole hospitality business suffered due to c19), you tip only if the service was outstanding, above and beyond or if you don't care about change / feel generous and round up the bill (i.e. leaving them 50, when the bill was 46.41) - and I'd make sure to leave a tip and that they know it's for kicking out disruptive people so I could enjoy my meal out (likely special occasion) in peace and good atmosphere.

Yeah, "The customer is Always Right" is the biggest load of &*^% ever concocted. The slogan should be "Treat customers with Courtesy, but bar them from service if they treat your establishment with disrespect." You don't need to keep an entitled karen as a repeat customer to be successful, and purging the air of the toxicity will keep the atmosphere attractive to other repeat customers.

The lady from story 4 is the reason I advocate for a license to breed for humans. She wasn't approved to adopt yet if she didn't have fertility issues she'd be free to get pregnant as many times as she could. If the child care system was perfect the kids would be taken away as soon as they're born but it's not and some poor child would have to suffer or even die in the worst case scenario. I'm someone who has been an avid reader since I learned at the age of 5! I always took books from my elementary school's library & of course returned them on time! Once I was old enough to go to our public library I ALWAYS obeyed the rules & returned my books on time! Fast forward to around 2003 & I'm starting to take my son to the library I've explained the rules such as very quiet voices so not to disturb others, return books before due ect! I was lucky & my son was well behaved. Then one day this "karen" comes in with her crotch goblin who is yelling, running around screaming (this was NOT in the children's section even) so as the librarian goes up to the "karen" trying to explain she needed to control her child my son yells out "what's wrong with that mommy why didn't she tell the rules" at this point you can hear a pin drop & I try to get my son away but he wasn't having it! He kept insisting that the kid's mom explain why her child was acting up! At this point I can't help & start laughing & "Karen" looks at me & says oh you think it's funny that your kid is rude! I said no he wasn't rude & what I think is funny is a 3 yr old knows better than you as to the way to act in a library! My son & I went up to the children's section and read several books! Once done he chose a few books I got my books we checked out & karen was no where to be seen

Bad business decision, imo. I've only once complained about someone at another table in a restaurant. Asked the waiter to please ask Mr Big Mouth to stop his potty mouth and disruptive behaviour (I was polite to waiter, but the hint was we'd walk out and take our business elsewhere) and the guy got a quiet word in his ear, and subsided. My daughter works as a service pro and trainer for all positions at a certain Italian restaurant establishment. She has worked there for a number of years and people will say and do the damnedest things to get their food comped. She has had people tried to skip out on bills over $400. She's had people in the bar try to convince the management that they had two drinks and that's all when they've been there for 3 hours. Some people seem to think their purpose on this Earth is to be scam artists.

Restaurant story: We had a family of 5 in our restaurant. The 3 kids (ages about 4-7 years old) are running around screaming and bothering other customers, while the parents did nothing.
I was the MOD at the time, so I politely asked them to control their children.
They told me they came to our restaurant to relax, and since it was our restaurant, it was our job to control their kids.
I asked them to control their children a few more times and I kept getting the same answer each time.
I finally told them they would not like how I would control their children, as my methods include the (city name) Police Department as well as the (state name) CPS.
They immediately called their children over and told them to sit down & behave.
After they were done, they said I was rude and they were calling Corporate if I didn't comp their meals (note-only the parents ate, the kids didn't eat anything).
I simply pointed to the cameras and commented on how they each recorded sound as well as video.
    They paid and left.

2nd story (kids running around in Italian restaurant): on r/childfree the other day, we were celebrating a post from the owner of an Italian restaurant saying that they will no longer allow kids under 10. Bc of parents who refuse to watch their kids, just like the one in the story. And a lot of people were happy that the restaurant with no longer be treated like a McDonald’s playground.

But as someone who was brought up to behave in restaurants even when I was little, and hated limited children’s menus from around age 8 (why am I stuck with a boring burger or Mac n cheese when the grownups get yummy salmon?), it would have made kid-me really sad. And really irritated that once again I was missing out/getting punished because other kids were acting like assholes.

Glad she apologized in the end but she should've known better than to give her child to a random person, whether she's having a bad day or not.
I'm sorry if it comes across like I'm being mean but I've heard too many stories of children being kidnapped, it's one of the reasons why I don't want to have kids, so I just think it was super irresponsible for her to give her kid to some random person because she had no way of knowing that OP was a good person who was gonna watch kid her. He could've been a creep who'd run off with her kid the second the plane landed.

My mom had breast cancer she would go to a center to get treated and while there a woman I guess was getting treatments for infertility and I thought nothing about it till the woman and her husband appeared on my land that's 4 acres back away from the road. She demanded that I give her my female organs that I didn't need them. The only way this woman could find out where I lived was one of the nurses who did act rude to me and mom at the cancer center gave the woman our address. The reason I think this is because the woman said she was sent to get her "stuff" from me and the nurses would help her. Let's just say we stopped going to that cancer center went to another one. Story #2. The “Librarian “ in the story probably wasn’t a librarian. A library aid maybe. Rarely do public libraries has more than two or three full librarians on staff. Most fully accredited librarians are well trained on how to deal with disruptive patrons. In this cast the first approach would be to ask the patron if they could direct the young children to the children’s area and then set them up with activities in the children’s section. FYI most children sections in public libraries have a “No adult with out children rule”, and a full time person watching over that section. If that didn’t work the librarian would ask how can they help the patron or if the patron would be able to work better in a single study room.
