  • Just as in the real trials this video features a loan locomotive that would not normally be on my layout, a Hornby King Class.
Using the Dynamometer Car I have tried to re-create the tests carried out with it on the East Coast Mainline

A bit of modeller's licence because as you say, the Exchanges were in 48 and so the King should be in BR. That said, nice idea and loved the whole thing!

Thank you for your comments, it was fun to make and an excuse to run a different Loco on the layout. Richard

Thanks for sharing this most enjoyable video. What TTS sound in the loco did you use ? Cheers, filip

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it, I borrowed the King Class Loco from a friend and it didn't have sound fitted so I dubbed in the sound from one of my Hornby A3s with TTS as it has the same cylinder arrangement and would sound roughly the same. Regards, Richard

That was a nice treat, the King Class is absolutely beautiful and also my favourite steam loco. I like the realistic running speed. What sound chip does it have? Best regards, Lee

Hi, I borrowed this loco from a friend and it didn't have a sound chip in it so the sounds in the Loco Depot are copied from one my A3 Pacifics and on the mainline I used sounds from live recordings of King Class Engines taken in the 1960s. This works out well because it forces you to match the Loco Speeds to the sound so as you say you don't get Locos running too fast. Richard

A loco from Gods Wonderful Railway running in Gods Own Country? A winning combination?

Hi Graham, Nice to hear from you. Thanks for that, I borrowed the Loco from Paul and it didn't have a sound chip in it so I am waiting to see what he thinks of it with the dubbed sounds added. Richard
