Suddenly I'm 25 again. Sisters of Mercy had some great tracks: Lucretia My Reflection, Dominion, and This Corrosion are all great if you want a deep dive.
After many years I've come to the conclusion that This Corrosion is just too damn long! Instead I would recommend the song More, from their last album. Also check out the earlier classics: Marian, Black Planet, Amphetamine Logic, Alice, Adrenochrome, Valentine, Good Things, and the original version of Temple of Love.
Ohhhh old school wave. The start of goth rock. Black clothes, black or mirror glasses, thick black dockers with metal plating and shuffling on the dance floor!!!!
Thiu song could go on for hours. The combination of industrial beats (well, rhythm machines), guitars, a goth vocal and a oriental vocal is just one of a kind.
Nice to see someone enjoying the Sisters of Mercy. This song is great to dance to, especially in a Goth club where the music is very loud and vibrates your bones. I was dancing on my own in a club and when the line "And the devil in the black dress watches over, my guardian angel walks away" the song slowly became real as this goth girl in a black lace dress became fixated on me and I on her. Our eyes met and locked and we danced in circles around each other like two planets with some irresistible force pulling us together completely automatically like you mention. We started out about twenty feet away from each other at the beginning of the song and ended up about an inch apart. One of those magical moments that you can't believe are real.
Lol, i saw them in 1985 at Mud Club Gothenburg and it was Eldritch birthday and they played Psychedelic Furs two first albums on repeat for like 3 hrs until SOM enterd the stage
This is an absolute classic. But it's energy and vibe is nothing you can recall in 2023. Goth is not a phase- it's a lifestyle lifelong. But I'm happy to see you enjoying it😊
One of their best, but there are so many more. This Corrosion, Dominion/Mother Russia, Anaconda, Doctor Jeep, More (co-written by Meatloaf's long-time collaborator Jim Steinman), Something Fast, Vision Thing, Lucretia My Reflection, Flood (both parts), Black Planet, Marian and First & Last & Always are all amazing too ...
Don't overlook their early stuff, especially Alice, Adrenochrome, and Good Things (the recording for BBC radio, as they never released an "official" version). Plus of course the _original_ version of Temple of Love.
A great reaction. You found the groove 😁 It is a old song, but it still gets me up to this day. Sisters of Mercy have made very good songs, with this unique style that may be boring to some people, but i liked it very much
This song is one of the most unique imaginable,,it has Yemeni and Jewish folk style vocals,A haunting lead vocal, A DnB vibe, rock, goth i mean it has everything a music lover could dream of, whoever wrote and arranged this track is a complete genius,
Killer song… very addictive and memorable! Takes me back… Your reaction was very honest and genuine.. fun to see people hear something u have loved for so long.
I WAS THERE when this came out as i was there IN LEEDS and BAR PHONO when Gothic Rock was born and 'The Mopey Two-Step ' dance came about, due to the small dance floor at Bar-Phono and the pillar in the centre that was covered in Mirrors! ORIGINAL Gothic-Metal head here and its where I also met PARADISE LOST before they were famous.
Back in the day, when my friends and I were running goth clubs in Sydney, if you were DJing and you needed to go to the bathroom - this was the song we'd chuck on. You knew you'd have enough time to go to the toilet and get back to the booth before it finished!
Nice reaction to this banging Sisters tune. Glad you enjoyed it. Still have all of my original Sisters vinyl from back in the day, including the original 12" version of Temple of Love from 1983. This version was the 1992 're-working' of the track. I'm very much of the early Sisters period. Body Electric, Adrenochrome and Anaconda are probably my favourites.
I got very excited when I saw the title of this video! Sisters of Mercy do have a lot of other great tunes, but I love this song in particular, specifically this version with Ofra Haza. Absolutely epic stuff to dance to, as you noticed, lol. Sisters were a staple of the 90s goth scene around here (Southern Ontario, Canada) for good reason. I don't really know what you'd call them, either, some kind of industrial/dance/goth hybrid that just clicks. It's good stuff anyways! Man, kinda makes me want to climb back down in to that 90s goth/industrial rabbit hole. There were so many great bands from that era (not necessarily much like Sisters), such as Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Love Spirals Downwards, Stoa...actually, I think all of those were on the label Projekt Records. That's a great label for the 90s goth stuff. Nettwerk Records as well, though they hit more of that industrial end of things. Cold Meat Industry is yet another, more from your neck of the woods as that was a Swedish indie label. Some great crazy experimental stuff (Brighter Death Now stands out in that area), but also some fantastic artists more like this goth/industrial stuff we're talking about. Okay, okay, that's enough for now! See, I told you I got excited. 😅
Sabina itat`s for the children of the 80 . I grew up in period and this was truly a blast as it is now who is 50.Yep many of my generation know this band. You should check Ofra Haza . Great , great mezzo who ended tragically
heard them live on Wacken 2019 with this song. Was an unforgettable Moment, where I totally slipped out of reality and into a kind of dancing trance. Love this song! And thanks to Henning for recommending it! It's a rare reacted to song ^^ Thank you for this video!!
It's nice to see you discovering this. Brings me right back to dance club nights when I was college in the 90's. They were amazing. A brief, shining light...
Love seeing all my favorite bands getting reaction videos. Takes me back my teen club days in the early 90’s. The Sisters were always one of my favorite 80’s Goth Rock/Darkwave bands. You should check out Clan of Xymox, Fields of Nephilim, Bauhaus, Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry, ect. So many great bands fromntg😮s genre. Thanks for this! Love your vids! Cheers!
WOW!! I thought it was a mistake...haven't heard this in ages...SOM were considered by many, a Goth band. This whole record is really good (I'm gonna dig out my cd!) I'm so happy you chose to check this band out...good memories! All the pretty Goth girls dancing...drinking red wine or absinthe... definitely hope you check out more SOM!!
One of the best Bands imo. When you realise you can sing along without any problem because you Know the Song so good like most Sisters-Songs. My fav. "Nine while Nine".
Legendary master piece of the dark ages of music in the 1980s. Original version form 1984 without Ofra Haza is under the Top 5 Independent Club dance hits of all time. Oh my god so much power - one of the songs of my youth!
Hi from Finland, i used to live in Ventura CA and go to school in UCSB so i would drive there and back 96 to 99 and sisters of mercy would always be on my Geo Storm C cassette player on my way to school and back :)
god i love the sisters of mercy. my favorite track is this corrosion. it's eleven minutes of the most dramatic goth rock you can imagine. there are multiple movements and a full choral section and it is one of my favorite songs ever.
The original version was released in 1983...so imo a classic, and stood the test of time. There's been a few rewamps of this by SoM, and others. It's quite the haunting song, and YES, perfect for full trottle "Dance like noOnes watching" 😜
A lot of late 80-s, 90s era goth has that dark, theatrical, mad preacher-like quality alongside that repetitive groove, it's a style I really love personally. Fields of the Nepphilim are another favourite.
Coming from just outside Leeds and being a teen I saw them quite a few times, along with The Mission (when the Sisters split). Great band, just wish they would actually release material again. Edit: if you want a similar voice then I would recommend either Fields of the Nephilim or Type O Negative. If you want more female backing vocals I would go with Severina by The Mission (an offshoot of The Sisters), or Gimme Shelter by The Sisters (a Rolling Stones cover). This was just called Goth at the time.
And a few visits to the Phono I imagine. I think the only band I've seen more than the Mish is the Wedding Present, another great Leeds band, but very different.
Visited their concert in Holland just at the time they released this song, times good music was created different and exciting. Ofra was invited for this song, she died much to soon. Another good vibe from them: th-cam.com/video/IuezNswtRfo/w-d-xo.html
I have fond memories of university parties, and a large gaggle of goths rushing to the dancefloor when this came on. Lots of fun to sing along to. Good times :-)
Impossible to sit stilll when I hear this song. A classic among the classic of goth / alternative. Glad you enjoyed Mr. Eldritch's commanding voice... Many do...
Glad i was there when this was big in the places i used to go to at the weekends... at a time long, long ago ;) SoM got a big part of my existance back then.
I have seen SoM live and listened to them several nights a week in different clubs in the early 90's. Gotta love Andrew Eldreitch and Dr.Avalanche. May the gods bless all the goth chicks.
Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Prodigy were a big part of my uni days. Great that you are bringing this music to your generation, and awesome to see its affect on you. Tower of Strength from Mission would be great next, also tap into Front 242, Nitzer Ebb and Ministry to keep the vibe going.
This song is one of my all-time favourites for a reason. It's got an awesome rhythm, the athmosphere is intense and the lyrics are so mysterious with a lot of great methaphors. My favourite lines are: "With the sunlight died and night above me With a gun for a lover and a shot for the pain inside" "And the devil in black dress watches over My guardian angel walks away" "Life is short and love is always over in the morning" "the tears he cried will rain on walls As wide as lovers eyes" I mean, some of them really make me want to write books ;D
Great reaction! I remember dancing this song at Slimelight, a goth Club in London....good memories❤ Black veil brides did an amazing cover of this song. Talking about bvb, do you like emo rock? I would like to suggest you two songs to react: "king for a day " by pierce the veil, and "if i'm James dean you're audrey hepburn " by sleeping with sirens. I gesso you'll like then😊
A classic. I remember many nights in goth clubs back in the 90s listening to this...
Cool!!
Sisters have other gems, try the Floodlands album from 1987 and Vision Thing from 1990. You might also like The Mission from the same era. 🙂

This is a masterpiece from Sister of Mercy
I sure agree, tho "Marian" will always be untouchable art.
My favoryt is the older maxi version.
Ofra Haza… died in 2000 unfortunately. What a haunting and amazing performance on this stunning track.
Saw 'em live in 1982, supporting Psychedelic Furs. Best gig I was ever at.

The female vocals are by Ofra Haza, a legendary vocalist in the Middle East.
