As soon as I understood the body-positivity message of Queencard, I immediately started thinking about how Soyeon had been singled out and criticized for her appearance when she was competing on Produce 101. Such criticism (as I understand it) mostly disappeared when (G)I-dle debuted, but I'm pretty sure that experience has stuck with Soyeon.
I can't imagine how she must've felt, being so young and criticized so intensely on how she looked, how she was born to look 💔
So the whole Allergy x Queencard story is based on 17-year-old Soyeon's experiences as a contestant on the shows Produce 101 and Unpretty Rapstar. She was routinely cyberbullied by netizens for being 'too ugly' to either debut or be in a girl group. (Mirror) Allergy is a reference to when she said, "Every time I look in the mirror, I feel allergic, I get so mad at my face." on Produce 101.
On Unpretty Rapstar during a rap battle, one of her contestants took a dig at the way her face is shaped. In reply, she said, "I know I'm not pretty, I'm reminded every day."
As for the plastic surgery, Soyeon was told by literally almost the whole online audience of Produce 101 to get surgery or she can't debut.

The painting shredded at the end, is a direct reference of a painting, made by an artist known under the name "Banksy", that shred itself just after being sold for $1.4 million in an auction (and that was something intended by the artist, yes).

yeh... nobody seems to get the Queencard ending. So the whole song is filled with Y2K references. The very ending also references Y2K movies and shows. It's the ending of "It was all just a dream, (or was it?)". They let you know that it was all just a dream but then an artifact from the dream leaks into the real world... in this case a picture from the party in the dream and everyone commenting on how cool she was at the party. So then we get the "wait? was it a dream or not?" This was a fairly common ending device from that time. Especially for a TV show that just wants to have a wild, funny, everyone out of character episode.

In NXDE the outfit Soyeon is wearing with the pointy twisted breast is a throwback to what Madonna wore in her video in the late 1980's. I am not sure if they were worn a century ago when these kind of shows first started. Since no one has mentioned the cartoon character is modeled on Jessica from the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."
I think most of the Queencard MV was Soyeon's dream-state while she was anesthetized for the surgery. When she went into the surgery, she was thinking about all the things that made her decide to get the surgery in the first place, which led to imagining what things must be like for all the girls she looks up to.
She imagines Miyeon being okay with Minnie dating the guy who just dumped Miyeon.
She imagines Yuqi and Shuhua dating each other since they are so much alike and finish each others sentences while working at the beauty store together (thinking they must hang out ALL the time if they are that similar of mindset, they are like the same person sharing the same brain, so they might be dating each other...maybe sub-consciously shipping them...).
Soyeon was actually at that club the night before (otherwise she would not have that pic on her phone and the girls would not have her number in order to contact her after she skipped the surgery). But obviously in Queencard she is imagining things going slightly differently at the club, with her actually taking some actions like having fun and dancing, rather than just being a wallflower and observing like she always has.
Of course IRL we know that Soyeon herself is actually an introvert and is shy off-stage/ away from the spotlight. This whole thing really fits her actual vibe.
Then of course there is the other real stuff of her actual story, as other people have mentioned. She's tiny, yes, but she does not (or at least when she was seventeen she did not) fit into the stupid-ass Korean Beauty Standard.
Whoever came up with the KBS are closed-minded idiots who lost sight of what beauty actually is. There should never be any box to be stuffed into.
IMO, the KBS is just some old fat wealthy asshole's kinky dream, that's all. So the KBS is just B.S. But money equals power and influence, and in this case, power that is bent in the wrong direction.

I love nxde because it has so much societal commentary, to simplify it it’s basically criticizing the industry for its double standards and wanting them to show more skin but then also shaming people if they are nude. It also shows the sexualization in society, like Marilyn Monroe who was a well known sex symbol in the 1950s, and it shows how society only pays attention to women as sex symbols. Marilyn Monroe was actually very intelligent and opinionated and had beliefs but ppl only saw her as a pretty figure. It’s just a song showing the hypocrisy and ignorance in society against women. Also, I saw someone else mentioned it but it’s also meant to fight child p0rnography in Korea, since their name sounds like the word for children, hence when ppl search up this stuff for disgusting purposes, they instead get a BANGER of a song that calls them out on their bs

The title track, “Queencard”, sings that the important thing is not the outward appearance, but accepting oneself as they are and truly loving oneself is the way to become a “Queencard”.
Through its lyrics, "Queencard" attempts to boost the self-esteem of its fans, who often feel a sense of inferiority as they cannot stop comparing themselves to others.
"The core message of 'Queencard' is that you can be a beautiful person if you adore yourself," leader Soyeon, who took part in its creative process, said during a press event at a hotel in Gangnam District, southern Seoul, Monday. "And if you adore yourself, others will adore you. I hope a lot of people can feel this with our new music."
In the "Queencard" music video, (G)I-DLE members play different characters ranging from a social media influencer to an ordinary woman in her 20s. Soyeon, in particular, assumes the role of a woman named, "SY," who appears to be "nothing special" at first glance. SY envies attractive-looking girls and even considers going under the plastic surgeon's knife but later realizes that she is beautiful as she is.
I just realized, SY was mentioned in tomboy so could it be that tomboy is SY's future?

First time here and I've got to say love your reactions. This group is by far my favorite in the industry, the concepts/message/themes are on another level and I can't believe Soyeon produces this so flawlessly. Can't think of another K-pop group that does it this well. Also always good to see another Yuqi stan

Most of Queencard is Soyeon under anesthesia dreaming of what life will be like if she is one of the "hot" girls, so that is why she keeps popping up in the same outfits.
In Allergy the kids in the lingerie shop are probably waiting for their hot mom's to get done lingerie shopping because you know it is probably more important to have a queencard wearing sexy lingerie than parenting. Soyeon was looking at some racy lingerie and was hauled away by Yuqi and Shuhua and placed with the kids as they don't view her as mature enough to wear sexy lingerie and is therefore treated like a kid. That was why they previously sent her home with some very "girly" lingerie instead of the sexy lingerie which just further frustrates Soyeon's character.

So sorry I'm late and sorry I didn't check out your Dreamcatcher video (which I will) I've just been very busy lately (with Graduation, and a bunch of other stuff as well)- dude I can't tell you how much I love each one of these songs Allergy and Queencard have such a good message and they really went OFF plus they're so catchy (I legit sing Queencard in my head so much it is legit stuck in there for awhile), and Nude same thing the message is AMAZING and probably my favorite out of the bunch it is SO GOOD and I got one of my friends into (G) I-DLE with that song and she was obsessed with it! Allergy was just Phenomenal and I love the chorus Miyeon fits it so well and it's actually so sad but it's very true many women and men go through that kind of stuff, Minnie looks INSANELY good and her Vocals were stunning, Soyeon was so cute and I loved all of her parts, Yuqi looked WOW just everything about her was Gorgeous, and Shuhua MY GOODNESS SOMETHING HAPPENED TO HER she looks and sounds AMAZING and her as the teacher in the red dress was wow- also at 10:40 same (you had the same reaction as me on pretty much every MV) I'm like HELLO MA'AMS (the Maknaes are going wild)?! MY GOD DID I ALMOST FALL OUT OF MY SEAT at 18:17 I definitely choked a couple hundred times I saw her and I legit was speechless and then her Vocals in the chorus was WOW! I think the setting really hides itself within the reference to White Chicks purely with what the guys do. Soyeon goes under anesthesia and dreams up this elaborate world where she’s more beautiful and isn’t herself, while the 2 black guys in White Chicks both have to be somebody they are not for a mission (if that’s the correct plot.)
I also think the reference was to make the western audience giggle and have fun while watching it so they remember the good old days with golden movies like School of Rock or White Chicks.
