Dollface's beta story especially makes so much more sense. I always found it especially unbelievable that a random boss can mutilate an employee without any kind of consequence at the time the act was done. The abuser being Dollface's dad makes so much more sense since the abusive act could be done in a private home and her dad could keep his actions hidden by no-one else in Dollface's home being there to help her or get her abuser in trouble. As well, the flavor added in (or rather, cut from) Agent Stone's story with the terrorist group he kills being racist skinheads gives him just that much more reason to lose control in his emotions while firing. Stuff like that for all the characters would've been that much better if they were kept in.

For a moment, when I heard the voice in the beginning, I thought this was just someone dubbing over the lines of the characters while showing there story, but no, this is actual legit stuff here. I'm interested to see all the things that changed from this version to the final.
Watching Agent Stone's story, I was rather confused why they'd take out the bit about his house burning down, I thought it really added to the world. And then I watched John Doe's story and I immediately realized why they'd have done a bit of touching up once I saw that tattoo on his shoulder lmao
As some people have theorized, Agent Stone's story was possibly edited due to Sony not approving of the racist skinhead story arc (leading to the gang that would also be in John Doe's story being made into a doomsday cult) due to the topic being too much.
@@jeremyriley1238 I don’t get why they didn’t keep that in. Sure the idea can be offensive but it makes a lot more sense on why he would especially hate those men and not just some regular thugs or gangs.
@@Hwje1111 because optically having a racist skinhead group kill a black cop won't end well in the eyes of public opinion. It makes much more sense and is better as a story but unfortunately the company wants to sell games.
I get a much darker vibe watching these endings... More eerie, gritty, and sad. Sony should've kept these, even the ones with racist undertones. It makes for a disturbing feel overall.
Eh. The one dealing with racism had too much information being dumped into the middle cutscene. It was a good idea in theory, but I think it's better that they stuck with what they did.
My guess was if they did, the game would've been slapped with an AO rating, meaning Sony would not release it since they have a policy against games with the rating on their consoles. And if it got released with an M rating as is, chances are people are going to whine and start a controversy over a video game baby being drowned to death.
Billy Ray Stillwell Not much, he's voiced by someone else (a placeholder VA) some scenes are arranged differently but that's it. Preacher Placeholder voice, he allucinates that he's set on fire while the "demon" calls to him in the intro, the two cops that enter the church are the same, and in the reveal of the truth scene, he appears drowning and pushing down the baby in the church. Agent Stone His cutscene model is different, the cult members he kills are skinheads, and he says in flashback his mom died when some skinheads burned down his house as a kid. Mr Grimm In the intro, the "food" on his plate is free of flies, the advisor to the vietnamites is russian, in the wish granted scene his mouth is not taped with duck tape. John Doe (Ed?) His arm tatoo with te swastika like simbol also says "one race, one country" whereas in the final version is just the symbol, there's footage of him leaving in the car, like when you win the game,. No Face Is seen when the dr. sawns together No Face's eyelids and mouth (ughhh), the knock out punch scene in the end is reversed. Bloody Mary The still where she stabs Kristy (the wife/friend that she stole her dress) blood doesn't appears like in the final version, the "groom's" lobotomy scar is more realistic and not so gory. Dollface Mr Krell is supposed to be Dolface's father, she killed Dolface's mom and put her in the mask since she was kid for making noises. Raven Raven says that the jerks who drowned Kelly picked on them since 5th grade, their car is also different, is black, while in the final version is white with some ridiculous blue stripes. Yellow Jacket It is really unfinished and voiced by someone else. Axel Really unfinished version of his ending, but his son is the one that got killed by Sweet Toooth instead of his wife. Cage (Marv?) Placeholder VA and looks really unifinished Black Someone is making the narration for him, apparently someone who wants to avenge his family through him, he mentions he's proud of him when he won (?) Sweet Tooth Not much, but he appears stabbing Calypso in the stomach instead of slashing his head/neck like in the final version.
+Midnight Hitman I liked the preachers voice in this compared to the retail release. I can also see why they cut some of this stuff out, the baby drowning and the doctor scene are pretty brutal (for the time it came out)
I think the narrator in Black's ending is Mr.Ash,it is kinda odd for a demon to have a family, but he created Black in the original Twisted Metal series.
26:13 Fun fact (and this is the only not-obvious one I've noticed so far) this is the only shot where JD's tattoo is edited to not be skinhead themed. The rest of his cutscenes still have the "One Race, One Country" text visibly on his shoulder.
Yeah, that's something I never picked up on until I thought to compare the final game's endings after watching this. To be fair, most of the shots make it hard or outright impossible to read and you basically have to rely on already knowing what it says, but that one shot of him going back to get the bomb is still pretty clear.
It makes a bit more sense with BRs lines, he becomes more sympathetic when it's revealed it was all a plot to kill him. His wife wasn't just cheating on him, but conspiring to kill him and collect his life insurance with the pilot. It makes it all the more twisted when he becomes a psycho who presumably goes on a killing spree in the city.
I agree that a lot of the voice acting in these (and the finished game too for that matter) definitely aren't great, but DANG are Sweet Tooth and Dollface great! Seriously! Sweet Tooth is legitimately terrifying. Every time he speaks, chills run down my spine. And Dollface legitimately sounds an emotionally unstable person (especially when she's describing her origin story. She actually sounds like she's having a mental breakdown). Makes their respective characters much more compelling!
"Well, it looks pretty kinda similar, like a early version of the cutscenes." Looks at No-Face middle movie "Holy shit, they even show the fucking stitching"
@@MFgabesylar3030 the fact that the gang was a group of white supremacists and the bit about them burning down Stone’s house and killing his parents in a racially motivated attack. It was presumably cut because roadkill seems to be part of the same gang until you completely finish his story. Or the publisher didn’t want certain subject matter.
They're not supposed to be the same characters, they just end up having to reuse a few models for different characters in some scenes, not having the time/money to create all new assets.
Hell FUCKING yeah dude. My childhood. I was born in 1997, so I was only 4 years old when this game came out. My dad bought the game, he was in his late 20s (born 1973). I didn't play it much within the first 6 and a half years of release as it horrified me. I wanted to because I played 3 & 4 before, but Black was a whole new animal. 3 & 4 are garbage by the way, I only liked them because I was a kid. Anyways I'm rambling lol. In 01 or 02, I remember watching dad play the game, and I first saw No Face, and even my little mind was like "FUCK NO". Fast forward to 2008, it was like Kevin in Home Alone with the basement. I saw No Face again, and thought 'This ain't so bad', and the rest is history! Really hope the game gets remade someday.
Darkscorpius is it true that Minion was supposed to have an ending? There was some info about a script in the TM alliance but I can't find anything on the internet, do you know something about it?
+boomerang2455 Indeed, since it explained more about Agent Stone's past than the final version (where the skinheads were now a death cult and Agent Stone killed them because he didn't want to arrest them, only to see them released the next day without charges).
poetic rapper I saw that in his bio in Twisted Metal Lost, but I never see them as canon as Lost was based on the cancelled sequel to Twisted Metal: Black. Therefore, I see the bios in Lost as nothing but placeholders.
And they kept that in the final game!! Lmao, But maybe he didn't see defeating the contestants as "killing" since it wasn't direct. He merely attacked their vehicles until they exploded, which he could rationalize in any way possible. Lol
Wow, it's so cool to actually hear some narration over Black's cutscene! That would make it a much better payoff for beating the game with him; the version in the actual game felt really anticlimactic and random. Edit: Also, say what you will about the voices, but I like how Mr. Grimm sounds less melodramatic here. And I honestly prefer Dollface's story in the final game, since "evil deadbeat dad" is a real cliche compared to a crazy maskmaker who would imprison a person who just ticked him off once.
11:57 despite the voice being kinda crappy, that one piece of dialogue should've been in the final game. Him phrasing a real quote from the bible, then saying "I was lost but now I am found" right before he plummets to his own demise was much more symbolic and fitting for his character.
Twisted Metal Black is an amazing game and one of a kind. I really wish they would have had an HD remake with online play. Even some crossplay with PC wouldn't be bad (TM2 had a PC port). They just don't make them like they used to...

Dunno if anybody already pointed this out or not, but the image that shows No Face when he used to be a boxer was a screenshot of Robert De Niro from the movie Raging Bull, not a still from any test animation. It was probably just there as a placeholder until they did a render of a younger No Face

To be honest, they should have gone with this version of Agent Stone's story. It makes more sense in my opinion. I mean in the final game, it was fine, but what exactly made him snap? The fact that a doomsday cult had had a bomb? Fair enough, but it felt like something was missing. Like, how were these guys different from other criminals? The bad guys being skinheads just seems to make a lot more sense., and it fleshed out his backstory more, giving a better reason for him to flip like that. Skinheads burned his home down? Of course it's going to drive him mad! Doomsday cult, yeah they're evil and all, but I can't see Agent Stone losing it unless he had a history of losing his shit. I think given the circumstances he would have been more calm from the beginning. Officers are trained to keep calm, especially when there are hostages, so I think it would taken more than some whack jobs to piss him off. Now if they explained that he was mad that a child was involved, okay, that would have helped the cult thing a lot more. I'd be super pissed if children were in that kind of situation too.
I wish they'd just redo TM:B and give us the full/original backstories with better voice acting and all that. I know that will never happen, but I'm going to hope like hell a TM:B reboot gets announced regardless. Lol
So basically: Billy Ray: wants revenge on the pilot that tried to kill him and took his wife away, using his own plane. Preacher: wishes to atone for his sins, though he discovers everything was of his own doing. Agent Stone: Wants to revert the murders of innocent people, gets popped himself by the same guy he was sent to neutralize. Mr.Grimm: becomes a cannibal during Vietnam, and eats the russian guy as a way of avenging the friend he was forced to feed on. John Doe: Tried to be a criminal, remembered he was an undercover cop, saved the world, but got whacked by Calypso for his efforts. No Face: lost a boxing match, got his eyes and mouth sewed shut by the surgeon that betted in his favor, and takes it to him the only way he knows. Bloody Mary: got rejected by the only guy she ever felt for, stayed lonely for several years, and when she got another chance, it ended the same way, and took the matter for herself. Doll Face: alone with her psychotic father, one day she ended up with a doll mask nailed and locked forever to her face. When she got the choice, she refused to let go of the mask. Raven/Sally: her best friend got drowned by some jackoffs branding them as "witches", and gets to kill them using voodoo dolls. Yellowjacket: the dad gets killed in a armed robbery, his son manages to revive him Frankestein style, but later got killed definitively, and the son now becomes a candidate for taking Calypso's place as the organizer of TM (implications with Sweet Tooth.) Axel: Revenge for his dead wife, finds out Sweet Tooth was the perpetrator and disposes of him, but is left to gripe with his guilt. Warthog: wants to become the most cold hearted killer on Earth, gets his wish granted. Sweet Tooth: Remove his curse, gets the antidote but reverts his claim, killing Calypso and riding off into the night. Quite the imagination Needles Kane possess to create a world and a bunch of people so twisted and messed up, but even his good side comes up now and then, to show hes human too.
It’s quite interesting thinking that these were too gritty for the time, especially since GTA came out around the same time. I can understand why though, as it was really only a year or so after the PS2 came out, it was still fresh at the time, so I guess they didn’t want anything too controversial so early in the life span. I really want to see something more disturbing nowadays since they’ll let them do anything short of sexually explicit content.
Gta is super goofy shit and low poly enough to not seem bad. This is actual cutscenes which have much better graphics. Also they didn't drown babies in GTA
Its incredible to see what was changed from this to the final game. I wish they kept more of the darker cutscenes. The placeholder voices are terrible. It sucks the cutscene quality was watered down a bit for the final game. They also shouldn't have changed some things like Agent Stone's backstory, the Russian advisor in Mr Grimm's story, John Doe's mid dialogue scene and Black's ending narration. It would have given more understanding, character and motivation for them. I have NO clue why the Bible verses were removed. Maybe Sony didnt want problems with churches or something? It sucks that ALL of the content was removed for the PAL VERSION. I love Ravens and Yellow Jackets music for their cutscenes. Its weird to see the game was originally going to take place in 2023.
Sony put their foot down because it was too dark. So they HAD to water it down or there would be no release. As such, Agent Stone's much better story was cut, Preacher drowning the baby was cut, and some things were changed. Some things were just changed because they couldn't get it right in time or they just liked the other idea better. Including, every scene was going to be fully animated but they ran out of time and had to use still shots.
the issue is how people would react to these scenes, maybe they would compare the preacher drowning the baby as a metaphor for abortion, some of them are still messed up but away the developers could get away with more scenes would be to remove all the cutscenes and act said scenes, maybe a mix between the two but the future for twisted metal is currently in some sort of limbo

@@Hwje1111 I dont understand why thats not ok, but in Drakengard for PS2, you can play as a literal pedophile.
@@Hwje1111 Arguably... a storyline like that is probably more relevant now than it was back when Twisted Metal Black was first released.
@@VenomousHigh which one was it?
@@tanookimariorocks Outlaw's middle cutscene
My guess was if they did, the game would've been slapped with an AO rating, meaning Sony would not release it since they have a policy against games with the rating on their consoles. And if it got released with an M rating as is, chances are people are going to whine and start a controversy over a video game baby being drowned to death.
the creators said they wanted to do what was shown here but Sony wouldn't allow them to
Billy Ray Stillwell
Not much, he's voiced by someone else (a placeholder VA) some scenes are arranged differently but that's it.
Preacher
Placeholder voice, he allucinates that he's set on fire while the "demon" calls to him in the intro, the two cops that enter the church are the same, and in the reveal of the truth scene, he appears drowning and pushing down the baby in the church.
Agent Stone
His cutscene model is different, the cult members he kills are skinheads, and he says in flashback his mom died when some skinheads burned down his house as a kid.
Mr Grimm
In the intro, the "food" on his plate is free of flies, the advisor to the vietnamites is russian, in the wish granted scene his mouth is not taped with duck tape.
John Doe (Ed?)
His arm tatoo with te swastika like simbol also says "one race, one country" whereas in the final version is just the symbol, there's footage of him leaving in the car, like when you win the game,.
No Face
Is seen when the dr. sawns together No Face's eyelids and mouth (ughhh), the knock out punch scene in the end is reversed.
Bloody Mary
The still where she stabs Kristy (the wife/friend that she stole her dress) blood doesn't appears like in the final version, the "groom's" lobotomy scar is more realistic and not so gory.
Dollface
Mr Krell is supposed to be Dolface's father, she killed Dolface's mom and put her in the mask since she was kid for making noises.
Raven
Raven says that the jerks who drowned Kelly picked on them since 5th grade, their car is also different, is black, while in the final version is white with some ridiculous blue stripes.
Yellow Jacket
It is really unfinished and voiced by someone else.
Axel
Really unfinished version of his ending, but his son is the one that got killed by Sweet Toooth instead of his wife.
Cage (Marv?)
Placeholder VA and looks really unifinished
Black
Someone is making the narration for him, apparently someone who wants to avenge his family through him, he mentions he's proud of him when he won (?)
Sweet Tooth
Not much, but he appears stabbing Calypso in the stomach instead of slashing his head/neck like in the final version.
Holy shit (Pun intended). David Jaffe wasn't kidding when he said he had footage of the preacher drowning a baby.
+C.J. Moran I've been wondering about that for the longest time, but seeing it now... yeah I can kinda see why Sony made them cut it
Thanks for the list.
If you look at the year on the newspapers in Sweet Tooth's cutscenes, it says 2023. That's a literal year away!
Dude that be dope if they make a new tm
Gonna be real alert around ice cream trucks now 🤣
Kinda accurate version of the 2020s
Guys, where is the Calypso?
2023 is here
26:13 Fun fact (and this is the only not-obvious one I've noticed so far) this is the only shot where JD's tattoo is edited to not be skinhead themed.
Wow, a lot more backstory on Stone. It seems more sad.
I'm glad they changed her name to Raven. If they kept Sad Sally, I wouldn't have taken her seriously
Ironic isn't it?
Raven is so incredibly cliche though.
I mean, more than likely, Sad Sally was just a placeholder name, like some of the voices are just placeholders.
After all these years just when I thought this game couldnt be darker I stumble upon this!!.
"Well, it looks pretty kinda similar, like a early version of the cutscenes."
Looks at No-Face middle movie
"Holy shit, they even show the fucking stitching"
Thank you for uploading this. TMB was one of my favorite games as a kid and I loved seeing what they changed or didn’t.
I liked the officer's story here more than the final one.
What’s the big difference?
@@MFgabesylar3030 the fact that the gang was a group of white supremacists and the bit about them burning down Stone’s house and killing his parents in a racially motivated attack. It was presumably cut because roadkill seems to be part of the same gang until you completely finish his story. Or the publisher didn’t want certain subject matter.
@@coldfusion1679 Thank you for breaking that down!
@@coldfusion1679 They could still be a neo-N cult and have Roadkill's story work. Just remove the swastika tattoo and he'd more or less still fit
I never realised Billy Ray and his wife was in the Preacher's scene.
I think they where just using the models not the actual characters.
@@jaytheartman610 Turns out they kept that in the final cut, which is interesting given it isn't mentioned in Billy Ray's Story
Maybe I was before it.
@@jaytheartman610 That is true, as some game tend to reuse character models to avoid spending time and money to make new ones.
They're not supposed to be the same characters, they just end up having to reuse a few models for different characters in some scenes, not having the time/money to create all new assets.
Happy 20th Year Anniversary Twisted Metal Black 🎂 Original Release June 18th 2001.
19:22 yo that's Metal Slug when the enemy solder dies
14:14 this will be 100% real darker.
29:11 but this... this will make me cry.
May I ask where on earth did you get these?
This game constantly has something new to offer.
They're from a friend that got them from a friend in the gaming media.
Darkscorpius is it true that Minion was supposed to have an ending? There was some info about a script in the TM alliance but I can't find anything on the internet, do you know something about it?
Patrick Verastegui I think that'd be sweet if Minion had an ending or atleast a cutscene of him speaking
Patrick Verastegui btw I'm the one who asked that because I heard some posted that script on the alliance ages ago.
tmd02 Tekken And Twisted Metal ...Sick Bro. Sick.
Its crazy how much better the polished version cut scenes came out
Ghary Perez interview with David Jaffe talking about the franchise developments & etc brought me here
Agent Stone's story seems more sadder on this.
+boomerang2455 Indeed, since it explained more about Agent Stone's past than the final version (where the skinheads were now a death cult and Agent Stone killed them because he didn't want to arrest them, only to see them released the next day without charges).
+Spike Riley you kno in his ending its said he never dies he keeps reliving that same day for eternity
+Spike Riley nvr realizing What'll happen even tho its happend to him before many times
poetic rapper I saw that in his bio in Twisted Metal Lost, but I never see them as canon as Lost was based on the cancelled sequel to Twisted Metal: Black. Therefore, I see the bios in Lost as nothing but placeholders.
I tear up at the idea of a black sequel
The voice for the preacher in these cutscenes sound like Mr. Burns
"i still got some snap in that left hook of mine!"
Throws a reverse punch with his RIGHT hand.
Traveled through many a comment just to find one mentioning this. Lmao!!
Preacher's ending in this made it more depressing, but due to his voice sounding like Stewie from another comment, it ruined it.
5:47 “may been only 2rd time I killed some.” Meanwhile he just beat a tournament where he had to kill people.
And they kept that in the final game!! Lmao, But maybe he didn't see defeating the contestants as "killing" since it wasn't direct. He merely attacked their vehicles until they exploded, which he could rationalize in any way possible. Lol
The preacher kinda sounds like Stewie.
Ghost Rider I just thought this too LMFAO
he really does 😂
Oh my gosh haha
I Think He Sounds Like Quagmire xDDD
I'm leaning more towards Bob Dylan.
Mr ash is the one voicing him over
Its still cool nonetheless to see Black had more backstory
I prefer the "cliché".

It was probably just there as a placeholder until they did a render of a younger No Face

soooo it seems like regardless of which version, Calypso inserts himself into Agent stones past just to double cross him (which has plot holes already)
It would probably have been explained if they had gotten more time
They had to remove alot more stuff and that can do stuff from time
The original Black ending is really interesting. Really makes you wonder if it's Mr. Ash/Satan speaking
A reminder that TM:Black had ZERO storyline outside of North America. All cutscenes were cut due to censorship, as well as a host of other things changed/removed.

Oh WOW I’ve never seen these. As if things couldn’t get more darker. This just makes me love this game even more.
Wonder what that says about me lol WHELP
Nothing. The game is popular because it is dark.
I kinda prefer this version of Dollface compared to the final one.
I think they don't want to promote patricide but it contradicts with Sad Sally's ending implies she wants to use the Voodoo Dolls incase she had an arguement with her parents so yeah weird thing to change.
Lol
I could NOT take Yellow Jacket's ending seriously LOL
Stuart Macher the placeholder voice doesn't help
The voice actor sounded like he was trying not to laugh
So basically:
Billy Ray: wants revenge on the pilot that tried to kill him and took his wife away, using his own plane.
Yellowjacket: the dad gets killed in a armed robbery, his son manages to revive him Frankestein style, but later got killed definitively, and the son now becomes a candidate for taking Calypso's place as the organizer of TM (implications with Sweet Tooth.)
Axel: Revenge for his dead wife, finds out Sweet Tooth was the perpetrator and disposes of him, but is left to gripe with his guilt.
And they never explained why calypso looks like a broke bruce willis in this game
Calypso is sweet tooth
It’s quite interesting thinking that these were too gritty for the time, especially since GTA came out around the same time. I can understand why though, as it was really only a year or so after the PS2 came out, it was still fresh at the time, so I guess they didn’t want anything too controversial so early in the life span. I really want to see something more disturbing nowadays since they’ll let them do anything short of sexually explicit content.
GTA has always been on the puerile side though. TWB is much more serious.

If sony ever decides to remake twisted metal black i hope they keep some of these cutsences
It takes a naive person to not understand how messed up some of these cutscenes are, especially the one with Preacher drowning the baby.
the issue is how people would react to these scenes, maybe they would compare the preacher drowning the baby as a metaphor for abortion, some of them are still messed up but away the developers could get away with more scenes would be to remove all the cutscenes and act said scenes, maybe a mix between the two but the future for twisted metal is currently in some sort of limbo
