  • This is my "Final Reveal" video for the "Airfix 1/72 WWII RAF Bomber Re-Supply Set" that is my third entry into the "Bomber Command Buddy Build" that is being hosted by me, both on here and on Facebook.
    This will be going into a diorama that I will be starting this week, and including my Revell 1/72 Handley Page Halifax Bomber.
    At just $21.59 with 197 pieces, great engineering and fits, and, good quality molded parts, I can happily say that this is a great "Value For Money" kit that was very enjoyable to build.

    Wow! Your skills and patience are amazing. Level of detail at 1/72 scale really shows your level of expertise.
    Thank you for sharing Martin. I always enjoy your builds. You never disappoint.

    What a great little set Martin, loads in there - with love from the RAF a nice touch! - can‘t wait to see the whole scenario play out on your diorama - Boy you‘ve worked your rocks off on this GB (a real tour of duty ML). Dave.

      Thanks Dave, much appreciated. Yes, I have got myself entrenched with this buddy build...but I was so looking forward to building some bombers. I have my diorama base painted with the slab/runway areas and also applied molding plaster around those areas to begin creating the mud and grass. Now the weekend is here, I'll be starting back on with that on Monday. Have a great weekend , mate! Cheers : )

    Really good video thank you . Here in New Zealand that same kit is $50 - $60 . You've done a beautiful job building them. I'm currently working on a military themed railway on the d day bulid up so have bulit the 30 tone Scammell tank transporter, QLD and QLT Bedford trucks, AEC Matador and 5.5 inch gun, quad limber and 25 pdr gun , and the Bren gun carrier with 6 pdr gun . All nice kits to bulid . Nice review on the kit .

    Once again The Martin Lamont Experience never fails to impress.
    I like the fact that you didn't follow the colour scheme to the book as they were taken from the Elvington Museum items and your paint jobs are much more to reality as I covered in my in box review of this kit.
    Top marks mate and I'm really sorry I can't be involved in this buddy build.
    Can't wait to see the diorama. I'm sure the ML Experience will be impressive.

      Thanks John, much appreciated mate. Yes, I didn't want to paint everything with the dark earth and black camouflage scheme, because I wasn't too keen on it, so decided only to the Tractor/Tug and Oil Bowser in those colors, then the Tilly and Bedford MWC truck in an Olive Drab scheme. I started the diorama, today...got the plaster down for the mud and the concrete slabs marked out. Have to wait 24 hrs or more for the plaster to set solid before I can airbrush my earth colors and concrete colors onto it. Then I'll had grass, dirt, dust etc and weather the concrete slabs. All good fun! Cheers : )

      Thanks Bill much appreciated mate. Yes, I'm hoping I can do a decent job with my diorama, but was hoping to get a model of a Nissen Hut- can only find paper models. Ha ha, I was expecting people to start asking me to attempt some 1/35 armor after doing this build. We'll see what the future brings...…. Cheers : )

      I hope it turns out looking cool mate...was hoping to get a 1/72 scale Nissen Hut, but I can only find paper models. I was pretty chuffed with how my wooden planks and wooden ladder turned out, not bad considering it is all Model Master acrylics and no oils to get the finish I did. Cheers for now : )

    Cracking job on the kit, Martin. Not bad for your first “non aircraft” kit as well. I’ve seen that Airfix has also released the USAAF ground crew kit in 1/72nd scale. I wish there was a 1/48 scale version as all but one of my models are 48 scale. Nevertheless, great job on yours. I can’t wait to see you work on the actual diorama construction. Cheers!👍🏻

      Thanks Matthew, much appreciated mate. Yes, I too would much prefer everything in 1/48 scale, especially now that I prefer 1/32 scale, due to my almost 60 yr old eyes! I started the diorama, today...got the plaster down for the mud and the concrete slabs marked out. Have to wait 24 hrs or more for the plaster to set solid before I can airbrush my earth colors and concrete colors onto it. Then I'll add grass, dirt, dust etc and weather the concrete slabs. Hi. Just want to correct you about the box not saying that you can only build either of the trucks. Between the trucks on the photo in the back, it says: "Please note that either (with bold letters) the MWC or (with bold letters) MWD version of the Bedford can be built from the parts in this kit". I'm working on a few kits in this set for a diorama with the very old (1969 IIRC) Revell Lancaster and the AEC Matador from the old, but nice, Airfix refuling set. I also put on an engine from CMK and scrachbuilt another Maintenance tower. Plus some figures.
    But nice builds you did on them. :o)

    Just a point, I have this kit and it clearly states on the back of the box, next to the two Bedfords, that you can only make one or the other.

      Thanks Philip, much appreciated. Yes, that would be very fitting; score from my favorite all time movie “The Battle Britain” would work...I can’t believe it will be 50 years, next year, since I went to see that movie at the cinema?! Where does the time go?!! Cheers 👍🙂🍺🍺

    Very nice, my only very minor quibble is maybe slightly over weathered. I know all modellers find it hard to resist weathering but these are airfield vehicles and probably kept pretty clean and well maintained even in wartime. Certainly bombs, which are generally single use items would be pretty much pristine!?

  • @RedtailFox1
    @RedtailFox1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just ordered this kit and it says, if you look on the back between the two trucks pictured it does indeed say 'Please note that EITHER the MWC OR the MWD version of the Bedford can be built from the parts of this kit' and upon closer inspection the box held up in the video also says it

    Great videos Martin, could I ask what is the base colour for the vehicles, I'm struggling to determine whether it's green or brown?
    Thank you.

    • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John, much appreciated. The base color for the camouflage is Flat Earth by Model Master, as shown in the “Build Update #1” video. Then black camo is used on the Tractor and Oil Bowser, then Dark Green camo on the rest of the vehicles. Cheers 👍🙂🍺🍺

    It's not more expensive in the UK. Exchange rates are great if your going to America with a load of sterling but in the real world £1 to a British person is about $1 to an American. Exchange rates mean nothing.
    I love this little set but I don't get why they didn't just include the few extra parts to build all 3 trucks instead of giving you a half a truck.

    • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I beg to differ, you'll need to explain your theory mathematically for me to understand your reasoning. I have a bank account in the UK and USA...I play the exchange rate to increase my investments within the accounts. Example in round numbers: If I have 100 pounds in the UK and the exchange rate increased to 1 pound = $2.00, I transfer the 100 pounds to my USA account to have $200.00 sitting there. When the exchange drops down to 1 pound = $1.33, I exchange my $200.00 to 150 Pounds in my UK account. Therefore, what had a value of 100 pounds in my UK account is now valued at 150.00 pounds. I can do this in reverse between each account.
      Yes, they could have included the extra parts to make another full vehicle, but what is even more sillier is- Airfix don't include 1/72 scale ground crew figures, and now they have discontinued the only 1/72 scale figure set they had, it's a pain...any airfield diorama one builds will now look like a ghost town.

    Nicely finished and in general exceptionally well weathered. However, this was wartime 1940s and there are several glaring errors.
    Exhausts: never aluminiumised. That didn't start until the 80s. Even fresh from the factory they would be black or slate grey enamel paint or unpainted steel. After a few weeks they would muddy rust.
    All brightwork - bonnet handles, steering wheel spokes etc etc would be painted. No chrome or brass was allowed.
    Fuel filler cap: body colour or black.
    The biggest debating point is that the vehicles are all in Drab. This again is only really valid from the 80s. In wartime, being RAF vehicles, RAF blue/grey was the colour - particularly for the tractor tugs. The Tilly and the water tanker may have been drab if borrowed from the Army. Tractors were also in plain grey. As a general rule, if it was Army it was drab, Royal Navy it was navy blue and RAF it was blue/grey as per uniforms. Even staff cars followed this policy except Ministry cars were black.
    Hope this helps.

    • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jeff, much appreciated mate, and yes, I could have easily plastered mud all over the vehicles, but refrained from doing that on my first ever attempt at building anything other than aircraft. Cheers : )
