Nice video. I hate the window dimming feature for one BIG reason, if the crew decide to dim the whole cabin they can do and lock them in dim! There is nothing as a passenger you can do about it, I like to be able to do the blinds whenever I want to and not when you are allowed only!
Totally agree. I always select a window seat for the simple reason I like to look out of the window. I don't think it should be up to the cabin crew to decide when and if I can actually do so. It's the one thing that spoils the 787 for me.
That is exactly the reason I avoid the 787 on longhaul flights! My "IFE" is looking out of the window so any dimmed window (against my will!) takes away the joy and beauty of flying!
Pre-pandemic they did serve lunch FRA-MUC but not terribly fancy in first/business. They did give everyone a chocolate cookie handed out specially when boarding, and a little chocolate with the meal.

I love the window dimming feature. I wish my HOME windows had it! I am not a fan of the crew having full control over it though. I get that some people want to sleep, but other people do not. It's easy for the ones who want to sleep to put on a mask rather than subject their will on the whole plane.
I was quite impressed with your "special lunch" on such a short flight. It certainly looked much better than the usual meals served for lunch on U.S. flagged carriers on their transcontinental flights in domestic First Class/Business Class. (JetBlue Mint Class being the notable exception)🤣. Have a pleasant and rewarding weekend.
As a German i can tell you this is the normal lunch on LH domestic flights. The only thing i can not explain is, how they decide when there is already a lunch or still a breakfast. And the apple is also standard since the new business-catering called „Heimat“ = „Home“.
Frankfurt Airport is like a throwback to the good times when 747s used to be everywhere at the big airports - 4:38. Now it's just that airport that has them in these numbers, and probably not for long. A real shame. The 747 is what made being a plane fan so fun.
Great video! Interestingly, my first ride on a 748 ORD-FRA, I noticed there were no individual air vents. Strange, but the cabin was comfortable. Can''t wait to get on one of these, but Newark...Agh! (But it is getting better)

Great vlog as always! LH must be one of Boeings best buyers of planes. I bet that is also how they ended up with as many 747-8 as they did. The reason was the number of seats for prem eco. LH is makeing lots of money in/on that segment/class of seat. Keep up the good work. Be safe.

Beautiful plane, thanks! In April 2022 I was able to fly on an old Lufthansa 747 from BOS to FRA, on the upper deck. It was nice but being old not nearly as nice as these new planes. Aigu, we found FRA to be outrageous in terms of how far we had to walk to our connecting flight and then get on a bus for another 5 minutes to get to the plane. No individual airvents seems like a pain in the ass for me, I always spend at least a minute setting mine up 'just so'. Not looking forward to that future! Glorious interior otherwise, though. Surprised they couldn't change the seat settings screen colour, seems like the easiest change! Love the window dimming. If you close the blinds you may as well be in a bus most of the time. Part of the flying is seeing that you're up in the skies. Closed blinds are a no go. Fun video, Paul! You were obviously having a blast!
I am still torn between which is the better aircraft A350 or the B787. I don't like the electro-dimming windows on the B787 (even though I have never flown on one yet). I think the concept of not completely shutting out sunlight is important. But otherwise, coffee or not Paul, your enthusiasm would have carried you through the day! cheers, mate.

I actually *don't* like the dimming feature, as it's truly incapable, even on max setting, of blocking out a full moon shine (as I've experienced on a JAL flight from Tokyo to Paris). The one (and only) time I wished I had a good old-fashioned window shade :)
For what it's worth, I flew MUC-FRA on a bog standard A320 back in September and did nonetheless get a meal on that flight. Tbh coming from the US though anything more than an oreo on a flight that length is impressive to me.
I do find it interesting how EU airlines will use new widebodies on short-to-medium haul flights first. Meanwhile, US airlines will automatically start those aircraft on longer flights (I remember Delta's first A350 flight was from Detroit to Tokyo). Maybe the US airlines do more non-revenue flights beforehand with the aircraft, but I am quite impressed (and jealous) that you get these opportunities!
I think your assumption is correct. I too have heard that US based airlines will do non-revenue short haul flights as "proving flights" for crew and the airframe, before placing it in revenue service.
RE the 787 windows - not a fan. Although you can still see out when they are dimmed (downside - they still let some light in), it's like sitting next to a radiator if the sun is on them as the shade part is on the inside.
I envy you that you have so much fun of flying. I am fascinated by aviation but I'm afraid of flying and fly only when I have to and it's absolutely necessary otherwise I tend to avoid it because it's always stressful for me.

I agree, Frankfurt is not the best for transferring flights, Munich is actually a much better airport. Only flew 787 with Norwegian Air (JFK to Stockholm) and we were in the middle, not at the windows. The dimmer is a cool feature though.

I also got the chance to try this cabin out just a few days after you filmed this video and I have to say I really enjoyed the experience on this newest addition to the Lufthansa fleet. Though one downside, I too felt the bed was a tiny bit of a squeeze for me at 6ft. But overall a solid upgrade over the old config
I don't understand why the Frankfurt - Munich flight exists at all. There is a fast and direct ICE service between Frankfurt and Munich (3 hours) which would take about the same time and be a lot better for the environment. Even worse is their flight Frankfurt - Stuttgart, which is just 1.5 hours by train! For me there is no excuse for that.
the electronic windows on 787 are mostly OK, except that the crew can control them all, which I hate. Been on overnight flights where the dumb crew block the windows and you can't even enjoy the lights of cities, or the moon reflection on the ocean.
I flew the reverse route MUC>FRA on a return form HND 3 weeks ago. When I saw 787-9 on the booking I thought it was a error - Capt. said it was a training flight.
Really at improve over their business and premium. But economy still economy in many sense. That thought, the 747-8 it would still be my option if I fly them one day
I though the ashtray was to do with changes . If they change a certain amount of thing they have to get things passed off again so they keep old features

Its especially bad on long flights when trying to adjust timezones. I really dont want the window dimmed at 2pm.

Dimming is fine as long as it is not centrally controlled as I heard so many complaints from Dreamliner passengers

Yeah I'm noticing it. United took delivery of a few more 787-10s lately, and within weeks of delivery they've been operating on transatlantic flights.
I thought United operated the 787s between hubs when they first had them delivered years ago.

13:35 The space where the remote is located is not a storage because it has no lock, thats why the headphones have to be stowed in the next one.

The windows on the Boeing 787 are the best . Shame that the individual air vent are missing on the Lufthansa Boeing 787.
