    I been looking into one of those W-machetes too, & plan to attach one of their camp knifes to the front of the machete sheath, to have a grab-n-go do all rig. I think that would be a pretty cool setup.

    I agree with your comments about the jimping. I have never said "I wish this knife had jimping so it won't slide out of my hand". It just hurts the thumb when it is aggressive.

    You could shave a Yak with that thing! I enjoy your videos as you call it the way you see it. You said good things about the Bear Grylls knife when so many others said it was junk. I have used one for years and still enjoy using it. It is so comfortable in the hand. Some people just love to hate, I reckon. Keep the videos coming and thanks for showing a great variety of items, especially knives. Be true to yourself and the rest will fall into place.

  • @gregblake2764

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, that's because I forgot to do it/ I have tested a bunch of blades in the last 10 years and a decent number of them were D2,. I have never had any issues with that steel under any type use.

  • @Stoney_AKA_James

    I have the Olive Green handle and stonewash finish version, great mid-sized chopper.
    And yes, its very comparable to the Skrama.
    I didn’t like the jimping either, so I broke out my Worksharp and ground them off.

  • @JohnSmith-gs4lw
    @JohnSmith-gs4lw 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The Skrama also has that shallow secondary bevel section next to the ricasso. 2:40 Curious how that Chinese D2 stands up to a whuppin on a chopper like that. I have a couple of their other D2 knives but they are much smaller.

  • @robertphillips93
    @robertphillips93 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    A very nice looking blade, for sure! The Skrama, made with 80CrV2 steel and hardened only to HRC 59, would probably be tougher to wreck than this one, at a 61 hardness. But the W will keep that keenness until ALL the yaks are shaved . . .

  • @MichaelTravis12c27
    @MichaelTravis12c27 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    It’s not much cheaper than the knife they cloned is it? I’d stick with the original. 80CrV2 is a proven workhorse steel and will be much easier to maintain than D2. Keep getting after it Bryan!

    The Skrama has 2 different edges on the blade as well. A 20 degree edge close to the handle for fine carving/ feather sticks and a 27 degree edge on the rest of the blade for durability. This knife is a complete copy of the Skrama.

    Bryan, you seldom disappoint, but I'm a little let down this time. A "knife" that long had to be designed with chopping in mind and you didn't do any. Did you just forget? You mentioned the three hand positions, so that made me anticipate it even more. I bet it's a beast. Maybe give it a try and just report at the end of your next video? At some point you need to put together a time lapse of "the ol' stump top". I feel like I've known it forever. LOL

    Odenwolf's marketing is far too aggressive and dishonest. They try to come across like a traditional German company that is all about nature and survival. In fact, all of their knives are plastic gimmicks mass-produced from cheap steel in China. In addition, they are shamelessly copying designs from other brands. They even market the unassembled parts of their knives as a "modular system" ("Baukastensystem" in German). Their knives are quite affordable - but that's it. It's basically Walmart for knives.

      ALL KNIVES are copies of other designs. Every conceivable design has already been tried. This is an interpretation of a Viking Seax. There is nothing wrong with updating a classic design with modern materials. This knife works because it's design has worked for centuries. Nobody is trying to steal an idea from anybody, here.

    • @greekveteran2715
      @greekveteran2715 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelhernandez410 Are you kidding me? If everything was a copy of something else, then what would be the original? Are you a copy of someone else? No, you're unique. This knife is a 100% copy of the Skrama, Traditional Seax, is something esle and it has it's own originality. Skrama was "based" on a Seax design, does not try to copy anything traditional, since it has a unique rubber handle, thicker blade that has unique bevel geometries (original Seax are 100 Scandi, Skrama is not a Scandi edge grind, but rather a low saber). I could mention more facts, but whatever, nowdays all people like to disagree even with facts and truth,so no point to argue, when I just mentioned facts and you just don't accept them.
