Now, this also happens to be one of the most confusing, nerve-racking, and intimidating aspects of design. That's the portfolio, and today we’re going to be talking about exactly what you’ll need, and what to expect, with portfolios. So be sure to stick around till the end so you have a complete idea and are fully prepared to make that perfect portfolio.
Your portfolio is a professional statement of who you are, the kind of work you do, and your process. The very best portfolios not only showcase their work but also narrate who they are as a designer. So this means that your interests, hobbies, and ideas will not only be showcased in skill but will also allude to who it is that you are and how you align with whoever you may be applying or appealing to.

I'm really excited about your full tutorial video you are going to post. I just worked for two weeks on my portfolio and then asked my designer friend what we though and he said it was nice but lacked flow. I really want to get into this landscape architecture masters program so I am going to redesign my portfolio!

You need to start looking into affinity photo, affinity, Polisher, and affinity design. These are one time paid software available both on iPad macOS on windows. In addition, it is far more dynamic than the Adobe suite put together. 😮
Affinity is a great software! However knowledge of adobe for whatever reason is the standard at most firms and is also included in most programs/schools. Therefore I try to represent what most people are using! But that said affinity has a cleaner and simpler UI and is a great cheaper alternative!

If I’m coming from an unrelated background, should I make self directed projects in LA given I know all the software programs to do so? Or just I just show random artwork
maybe a bit of both... would be great to highlight that you are coming from a different skill while also showcasing your willingness to learn this new field
I study landscape design and management and I want to ask can I get an architectural license to become a landscape architect? If yes how?
You won’t be able to get an architecture license beforehand, you will need to go to school and work under an architect for many years before you would be eligible
