  • Good day, here's a review video of a Dyna-Glo 4800 Watt 240V electric heater. This unit can be purchased at any big box store, as well as Amazon for between $100 to $150. Viewers from Canada please note: Canadian Tire puts these on sale every few weeks for $119 which is what I paid, so if you can wait, it'll save you some money.
As always, if interested in purchasing a smoker like this or any other one featured on our channel, and are in or around Southern Ontario, Canada contact us, and we'll be happy to answer any questions.

$100/ month to run? How expensive is your electric?
I had a similar heater. It just blew, and it was maybe $50 on a bad month.
How cold does the temp get where you are?
    $400/500 a month... comon...
I live in Canada and running it sll day, 6 days a week, maybe $50 additional

Thank you for your information it's been partially helpful. I didn't expect you being an electrician but
I wished you would have talked about the cord connection and converting from
120 to 240. In my house I only have 240 at the washer connection everything else is 120
    what do you recommend

Honestly your best bet would be to have a licensed electrician come and look at your situation. Thanks for watching!

For fire and insurance purposes it is best have a licenced electrician install this system.
You will require a new 240 Vac breaker installed in the breaker panel.
Then likely 6/2 to 10/2 size wire (I am not an electrician so only guessing) from the breaker to a proper electric receptacle (female 240 Vac plug) and likely a 2 gang box.
The one in this video has the electric breaker panel only a few feet away from where he mounted the heater so the cost of his wire would have been that of approx. 6 ft, 2 meters long.
If you have to run 20 feet of 10/2 wire then it gets costly.
With the breaker panel in the same room an electrician can do the complete install in under 60 minutes time (maybe 30 minutes). A bit more time if they have to run wire from inside the house to the garage if that is where the breaker panel is.
Hope this is helpful so you can speak with an electrician with some understanding.

You DEFFINATLY want to have an electrician do the work. If you work a lot in your garage, you may want to consider putting a sub panel there instead of a single outlet. 100amp or 60amp sub, and then you have enough power left over for more toys.

@@human1513 You are mostly correct. NEMA #6-30P (the 30 stands for amperage) and #10 wire is correct wire size for 30 amp service (as of 1/11/2024 #10/2 is around $.40 per foot, Electrician will charge YOU $1.75 per foot if not more). DEFFINATLY use a 2-gang box, it's NOT worth the hassle of bending those wires into a 1-gang. Install time would vary. I am an electrician and I wouldn't lock myself in to a time frame site unseen. If customer has no obstructions and it's close to the van. I would suggest putting a sub panel there instead of a single outlet. 100amp or 60amp sub, and then you have enough power left over for more toys.
I put a 100amp sub panel in my garage for this reason.

1:12 This screw is useless, LOL. Thanks for the video. I've been considering this unit for cpl years now, I'm lazy and have to many other projects that monopolize my time.
Q: Is your shop insulated? If so what R-Value?
Q: What are your local temps range in winter?

    • @apexcustomsmokers

Thanks for watching! Yes my shop is insulated, walls have r40 in them, door I'm not sure, but it is insulated. I'm in Southern Ontario 🇨🇦, our winter temps range from -0 to -20 (with the OCCASIONAL-30 day, but it's rare)
It's a good little unit for the price! Cheers 🍻

The cost of running that think I will keep my oil filled radiant heaters as my ceramic 360 degree heater with fan uses alot of electric by it self electric bill from November was $119 in a house under 800 SQ feet haven't had to use oil heater in crawl space yet which adds to the bill.
