    My dad purchased a similar unit from Sears many years ago and they do put out a lot of heat. Since you’ll be running it in the garage, Its good that you installed a carbon monoxide detector just to be on the safe side. I ran 220 volts in the garage and installed a 4800 watt construction heater that I picked up at Lowe’s. It has no problem keeping the garage warm, even when it’s -30 outside. Be safe bro.

    mine is awesome in my garage. its uninsulated and when its 15 outside i can keep the garage in the 70s. their great. one tip i always share is get a good battery powered pump to hook to your gas can like a terra pump or deway. they make life with a kero heater so much easier. As for the CO detector, youll never hear a peep unless you run it in a tiny room with a towel shoved under the door. I did a dry burn with the monoxide detector sittng right on top in a garage and not a peep was heard.

    I have the same kerosene heater. The fuel is pricey, like $8 a gallon in Lowe's or home Depot or tractor supply. There's a gas station on route 9W in Highland that has a kerosene pump, that pumps 1K clear kerosene. When I was there last week it was $3.99 a gallon. Big savings man. 3731 rte 9W highland NY 12528, open 24hrs. I use my heater to supplement the gas heat in my house. It gets so hot, 81 degrees, that I open windows for awhile to bring the temp down, also to bring fresh air into the house. Enjoy it man, you won't regret buying it. Oh yeah, you can buy kerosene treatment to add to the kero, good idea in case of water in the fuel.

    Here is a little tip for you when burning kerosene it depletes the oxygen in the air / moisture so get you a pot fill it up with water and put it on the top of your kerosene heater that way it will kill a lot of the kerosene fumes coming off of it plus it will put moisture in the air

What I don't like is the price of kerosene, I payed about 8 bucks a gallon for it. Cheapest I could find in my location at a Menards store where I got the heater, also cheapest price for the heater. Do you find the adjuster knob to be touchy when raising the wick initially? The ratchet seems to catch very lightly and sometimes it doesn't catch at all. If I turn it very slowly it will hold, but if I turn it fast it does not. Is your adjuster sensitive too? It seemed like you had to sort of hold at the max a second before you let go before lighting. Is this normal? Thank you.

If I do find one that is on sale I'll probably buy it as well. I prefer lighting these heaters the old fashioned way so I'll probably won't ever use the switch igniter and I prefer to lower the wick to extinguish the heater rather than using the extinguisher switch. I'm just use to doing it this way because that is the way I do it with my Kerosene lanterns and lamps.

      I usually hold the black knob, and then press the red button. Then I can slowly turn the red knob back down till the fire outs itself. That is how I shut off this unit. Your unit may vary depending on which one you have. If you can't get it to shut off then safest thing to do is move it outside so it can burn till fuel is empty. Then you can asses if something is broken. Best of luck.

    You have a 30' x 30' garage? I have the same one, just an older model. It's heats up the shop fine. But in my case, my cleaning fluids are still very cold to my hands, even with rubber gloves on. And that's the stage I'm at in my restoration. Cleaning parts. And I have a lot to clean.

      I was using it a lot last winter , and yes you do get a slight odor. For me, this wasn't a deal breaker though. I do use it with a carbon monoxide alarm next to it, and maintain an open window for constant ventilation. I "highly" recommend keeping a window open though. It will get warm enough in a garage so you wont even really notice.

      I will take a look on the heater when I get home. This heater was purchased at lowes. Still works great a year later, and gets my garage pretty darn hot. Lol. Last night it got so warm while I was working on my bicycle... I started to sweat, I had to turn it off.

I'm curious how it will smell when I shut it off. So far I'm pleased with the unit. 🙂

    Anytime you can add liquid paraffin to the kerosene, do it. The more you add the less kerosene odor you'll notice.

    • @dbest1aVlogs
      @dbest1aVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. Where do you get this from.

    • @Glasher1
      @Glasher1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been years since I've used the heater. Locally (SE Michigan) I picked it (Ultra Pure) up at a large chain called Meijer. I was able to source/bargain 55 gal. drums elsewhere. My intent was to install a constant feed system that could feed the paraffin or kerosene of what ever mix ratio desired.
      Mostly I started with the paraffin because of my wife's aversion to certain odors due to her head injury. We have always enjoyed our front door open, even in the winter, and the minimal cost of running the heater made that possible, and the paraffin worth using it for my wife. When it simply got too cold even for us I simply increased the paraffin ratio. And of course, the higher the paraffin ratio, the more it smelled like we were heating with candles. Scent additives were available as well.
      I hope that was helpful. Will be happy to answer any Q's you may have.
      p.s. All of this was done before the internet was available. lol

      @dbest1aVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Glasher1
      @Glasher1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We used the box version. Although, even in the single digit temps we would open the door for a few (fresh air). If you begin using the paraffin and learn a good balance, you could probably do an additional video that might draw a lot of attention. Lol, don't forget to give a nod. 8 )
      p.s. You probably already know of treatments/additives to improve the burning of the Kero if you're having a problem acquiring the higher quality stuff.
