    I was wondering why Bulbapedia's showcase of Maylene's team was missing the sitrus berry you were talking about... The battle cleared it up though.
    Also small detail, drain punch got a much needed buff in gen 5, increasing its strength and pp. I've never really used the TM, because if you're gonna run around with a 5 pp move in the midgame, it better have more than 60 power...
    On top of that, Drain Punch's distribution in gen 4 was really limited, with Meditite, Riolu, and Gallade being the only fighting types available that can even learn it (and the national dex only adds hitmonchan and breloom to that list).
    To make it even worse, nearly all the other non-fighting were predominately special attackers like Togekiss, Alakazam, Gengar and CHANSEY... So yeah, a brick break TM wouldve been a lot more useful...

      Lickilicky is somewhat of a jack of all trades kinda tank, I imagine he can come in very handy if you're stretched for options in terms of pokemon. And if you're not too attached... it does have the strongest explosion in the game.... Its not that good into the E4, but going boom on one of Cynthia's strongest members could maybe be worth it.

      @grumpygengar22  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll have to keep that in mind, I always overlook the explosion factor

    Give rhydon or lickitung a chance. Rhyperior is actually a lot of fun

      It seems like it would be good. Not playing with trades this time around but I'm excited to try in the future.

    Nice progress made this episode, lots of new encounters to play with. As someone who played a lot of DP, it feels weird having Mayline as the 4th gym. And speaking of, I remember in DP that double battle at the end of route 215 has totally different pokemon including a Gyarados, much scarier battle. But if you weren't feeling confident, anytime there's a double battle with 2 trainers facing eachother who meet you in the middle, if you walk up to one and talk to them you'll trigger a single battle instead. In terms of grinding for cash, if you VS Seeker the Rich Kids they'll give a higher payout than other trainers. I'll also say I've used Lickylicky before in a casual Pt run and it served me well as a mixed coverage bulky mon. It's basically the epitome of the Normal type jack of all trades. I'd say it's main weakness in a nuzlocke is poor self healing tools, so it'd probably be useful to deal with a troublesome opponent if things start going wrong.

    • @grumpygengar22
      @grumpygengar22  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the double battle tip is great! And I'll have to give Lickilicky a chance now that I've seen multiple comments praise it's ability.

    13:48 I used rhyperior in my last playthrough of platinum and it is so much fun. Although you'll pretty much always be outsped (even when the opponent is 15-20 lvs below you in some cases), it hits like an absolute truck; OHKOing the majority of non-resists

    • @grumpygengar22
      @grumpygengar22  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The reason why meditite didn’t go for fake out is because it saw a kill with rock tomb. If an enemy sees a kill on a Pokémon, they will always go for it. Rhydon and Rhyperior are almost identical. Rhyperior is obviously better if you can get it but there is not a big difference between the 2. They both get elemental punches through move tutor which is pretty cool. Lickylicki is just ok. Good defensive stats but not a great typing for what it is supposed to be. It’s kinda like weezing tbh.

    • @tijnvannelmen5832
      @tijnvannelmen5832 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used Rhyperior on a Sand Team, and I gotta say, the sp Def boost + Solid Rock let it tank super effective hits like it was nothing. Solid Rock might be a bit less impactful outside of sand, but being able to live a stray giga drain or water pulse or even a strong ice beam could be clutch.
      Now if you get stuck with lightningrod... not much of a difference yeah. Just use Golem at that point.

    • @grumpygengar22
      @grumpygengar22  ปีที่แล้ว

      Damn, so a Meditate saw a kill with Rock Tomb? That's surprising considering Meditate isn't very strong and Rock Tomb isn't that great either. I guess maybe it also could have used Rock Tomb simply because I was faster as well

    • @gg41451
      @gg41451 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@grumpygengar22 Yeah it was either going for speed control or it saw a kill with a crit rock tomb.

      @@tijnvannelmen5832 Sand teams have a whole lot of potential in nuzlockes especially in this game with the hippo. I think the biggest problem with Rhydon/Rhyperior is that you have to rely on move tutor and TMs to have there movesets be viable in the mid game. Otherwise they will be stuck with rock throw for a while.

    What jumps into my mind on that Lucario's berry, is that he was at exactly 34% HP, but I wouldn't put my hands on the fire

    hello just askin which trainer/where did you grind to match maylene's level cap??

    • @grumpygengar22
      @grumpygengar22  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are a lot of options, but at this point in the game I like going for a bit of EV training at the same time depending on my party members.
      I like training against the black belts on Route 215 for Attack EVs.
      Ghastly in the Old Chateau in Eterna Forest for Special Attack EVs.
      The fisherman that has 6 Magikarp on the eastern side of Route 205 (by Eterna City) for Speed EVs.
      The hikers on Route 208 (right before Hearthome City) for Defense EVs.
      HP and Special Defense EVs are harder to train at the stage of the game so I usually just skip that for now. Otherwise you can just level up on trainers on Route 215.

      iirc Scyther gained bug bite in HGSS, Pt just missed the boat. but if it was in B2W2 I think you can feel less bad

    • @pikminman13
      @pikminman13 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@evanclark6160 wouldnt matter because tutor was battle frontier only in HGSS outside of specific moves. so that's like not even having it. i dont believe scyther was present in B2W2 either.
