That banging the bloodline is actually part of the plot of a sci fi network show. The guy is doing it because he's got immortal genes and he's trying to form an immortal mate. Every time theres another generation, that person is getting more and more close to just his genes.
It's troubling that we're such a miniscule element of life in the galaxy and potentially further in the universe, but it's a major concern that we are the most advanced... picture that we are it; we are where life has got to, nothing before has managed to get where we are before, presumably, destroying itself and that we are on the precipice of doing the same. That I consider the most troubling of the two; we are it and when, not if, we end we will take all with us.
My personal take on living a long time or immortality, given no Faustian shenanigans, should be a def yes to anyone out there. Your loved ones die yes, but they do that in regular life. Think about how your loved ones don't have to watch you die OR that you can carry a more true account of their life on earth. The other argument against I've heard is boredom.... which is a boring stance and i think blown waaaay out of proportion in any show or movie or literature that explores immortality... Along with the love i think its more a person coming to terms with their own short lifespan than letting themselves think of all the wonder of what if? Oh and your brain decaying b/c of the time IS a Faustian twist that's bs. If you are literally young the physical problems with age don't happen then its a learning how journal thing if you just have a bad memory. ... I think I've thought about this kind of stuff too much....
We don't celebrate Guy Fawkes, we celebrate his failure. Hence we burn an effigy of him. I only learnt this the other day. Makes so much more sense....
I'll be honest, I never saw the idea of burning a guy (we never burned a guy, just ha the fire) as a celebration of his demise. More like an honouring of the attempted action rather than what would have been the outcome. However, now I am older. Just an uniformed but hopefully interesting perspective Also loving binging these! Edit: The fingle gives me From Ashes vibes
Live for a thousand years is an fairly easy yes from me. I would like to have some sort of assurances i don't end up like some sort of lab rat somewhere for most of those thousand years xD
Smith: i feel like the reason we haven't been invaded/nuked/etc by aliens is there is nothing that we have that they want. Anything that can travel light years in a life time has reached technology levels that would make it less effort to just terraform a rock in the right place to their conditions rather than try to sequester something else a long distance from their [primary] sun Our banality is our shield lol
Maybe we are the most advanced life-forms in our galaxy. Everyone seems to think that there must be super advanced aliens out there but what if no aliens have yet reached the levels of technology we have? Someone has to be the first; it could just as well be us as anyone else.
"That's what's amazing about the human brain, there doesn't seem to be a limit on capacity" Difference of opinion, maybe, but if you look at people that have perfect recall, they don't always end up perfectly rational/socialized. Most of society is built on the ability of humans to forget past transgressions. Someone hurts you, you have two options: forget or forgive. Forgiveness is a virtue because of how hard it is. So, a lot of cooperation is built on forgetting past transgressions. It's not even just other people's mistakes. It's self-confidence and self-esteem. If you can remember a millennia of the mistakes you've made... It could become really easy to second-guess yourself. Sure, you have a lot of experience, but most of that will be you failing in some way. It takes a strong sense of self-worth to be able to say "Yeah, I've failed at most of the things I've tried, but this time'll be different!"
Living for 1000 years scenario - take into account finances if you already had a low paying job you could just end up working for that entire time an not being able to explore and learn.
Who's that guy in the middle? Where's Trott? (Oh I'm just so funny and original! Sorry, Trott. I know the pain. I look weird without my beard too. At least you can pull off the beardless look.)
Sentience and sapience are two term that are often confused. We will examine the difference between the definitions of sentience and sapience, where these words came from and some examples of their use in sentences. Sentience means the ability to feel things, the ability to perceive things. Any living being that has some degree of consciousness is sentient, including insects, lizards, dogs, dolphins and human beings. The word sentience is derived from the Latin word sentientem, which means feeling. The adjective form is sentient. The word sentience is often misused to mean a creature that thinks. Sapience means the ability to think, the capacity for intelligence, the ability to acquire wisdom. The scientific name for modern man is Homo sapiens. Sapience only describes a living being that is able to think. The word sapience is derived from the Latin word sapientia, which means intelligence or discernment. The adjective form is sapient. Note that sentience is often misused in place of the word sapience.
Trott looks weird without his beard. Smith looks weird without his glasses. Ross looks weird, but that is normal.
Incredibly glad I wasn't the only one who noticed how different Trott and Smith look. Ross is the rock in these uncertain times.
It's never been said so succinctly.
Hat Chat binge.... so happy iam still here with my connection.... HAT CHAT is epic.. Thank you bois i truly needed this
Started watching, hadn't seen Arrival, left to go watch it, then came back to watch the rest of this video.

Having people love die around happens right now. Living a 1000 year would be same.

You mentioned it later. Apologies boiks

Also, my town (in Kent, none the less) is semi-famous for its effigy burning--we're done Boris, Farage, and other idiots previously.

you could actually serve a 500 year prison sentence
We need either a banjo or bagpipe intro jingle.
Did you mean th-cam.com/users/microcosmos
Is it just me or does Smiffy have a significantly larger forehead without glasses on...
Glasses have that weird ability to break up the face.
I'd love to see civilizations rise and fall
Why do you always have to talk about stuff that gives me an existential crisis
