John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween movie introduced the world to the iconic serial killer Michael Myers, his crazy William Shatner mask, and of course, to Jamie Lee Curtis. The film revolutionized horror movies and spawned a ridiculous number of sequels, spinoffs and reboots. But what kind of decisions went into making the original? Why were there SO many lingering long takes and filler moments? How was Michael able to survive the crazy stuff that happened to him? What’s up with Loomis and the police not warning anybody about a crazy killer on the loose? To answer these questions and more, step into the 1978 pitch meeting that led to the original Halloween! It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Those hairstyles make me laugh way before any word was said. Again, a round of applause to Ryan.
Fun fact, "'Cause he's pure evil" may well be the actual reason. Some have interpreted Myers not as an actual person meant to make basic sense but as the very opposite - the absence of a person, a literal avatar of pure evil that's exempt from making any sense. This apparently ties in to Carpenter's general view on what constitutes "evil" in his works - disparate abstract concepts, not really unified into one, let alone into a person.
Apparently "an absence of a character" was literally how Carpenter referred to Myers too, so there's that.
Which fits the absence of a plot that this absence of a movie ends up having perfectly. xD
Oh man keep these coming! I would love to see pitch meetings for the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies they’d be perfect!
Big reason they didn't have a lot of money for this thing is that John Carpenter opened with one of the longest shots in history at the time; using a very early Steadicam mount that nearly spent most of the money. On the first few minutes of the film.
This pitch meeting was totally rad.. like so totally rad… totally
