The more you learn about the clone wars the more you get to realize, that without Palpatines interference, the CIS would just have wiped the floor with the Republic.
The CIS had the numbers, the logistics, the decentralized nature, talented commanders like Trench and Grievous, tons of resources and could replace losses with ease.
The Republic on on other hand would basically collapse with the loss of 2 systems (Coruscant / Kamino), having only a few million troops, no chance of getting reinforcements fast (a clone needs 9 years to be combat ready, the clone wars itself only lasted 3 years) and the Jedi being totally incompetent commanders at the beginning of the war.
A quick strike from the Confederacy at the republic core worlds before the Jedi could gain war experience and the clone wars would be known as the galactic Blitzkrieg.

Despite being labeled as Republic property Clones are independent thinkers with their own personalities and beliefs, even if some of that is engineered into them. Clones have everything to lose in a battle. Battle droids have nothing to lose, they can be salvaged from their scraps, and since they have no sentience they suffer no severe emotional loss when a battle is over. In spite of being enhanced not to have Stress, most Clones regardless like Rex carried that over from the many battles he fought in, and as a result carry a heavy burden when they lost their brothers.
Battle Droids also proved more cost effective in the long run whereas clones despite being smarter and adaptive could be overwhelmed by large numbers of droids, and in the Clone Wars we see just how deadly the droid army can be in large numbers.

The droids are sentient enough to do their task, I'd call that semi-autonomous AI. The large numbers start to count because of what's called "critical mass" in RTS, maybe irl too. A critical mass of X unit is sufficient to destroy any opposition, or inflict very heavy casualties on them. Droids can attain that number quicker, even if it is higher because of their limited intelligence and feeble bodies, simply because they're built on an assembly line and factories are far easier to deploy than cloning facilities.
As an example of quick facility deployment, during the hasty Soviet retreat on 1941-42, they would construct factories behind the front lines with whatever equipment they salvaged/received in unprecedented amounts of time. Often the facility would go online and begin production before the rest of the building was complete, that's how much they needed equipment and vehicles. Once the critical mass was there, it was a steamroll. The commanders were fairly evenly matched skill-wise and technologically similar but the economic and military critical mass proved victorious, although at the cost of completely annihilating that generation of military aged men and, to a lesser extent, women.
The dilemma in the clone wars makes you wonder why the republic did not recruit regular soldiers, human or alien, to augment the clone troopers. Yeah the losses would take even longer to grow without growth acceleration but you have access to a much larger pool and no need for a fancy facility. Institute a draft and go, militarize the economy and build more fleets. You could even use the natives of the planets as a standing army, or at least have them trained and with maintained equipment to hold their own/delay the raids.

I don't know anymore sense they chance things all the time. Mass Effect there was regulations by there Galactic Government to minimize how big a space fleet is.
So I'm guessing these futuristic world wanted to bring peace so they pass laws to limited the military build up.
Like during the Russan Reformation it effected the size of the Republic military. The Jedi disbanded there military and they movie to a peace keeping role, so military training they had was decreased. There lots of planets who military were weaker then the pirate that operated there, there planets who are lucky to have a few fighters and those with ships were heavy obsolete and underpower. The CSI were basically the closest thing to a military or a galactic govement out there.
At that time the republic don't really have a real anti- pirate operation sense Tarkin Uncle and his anti-pirate fleet got destroyed and he chose to do create the fleet himself because he wanted to rebuild the republic military. The head of the republic at that time wanted to be know as a great negotiator so he didn't like to invest in Military.
Also from what I remember the planet in the core world were generally peaceful and prosperous. They didn't want to spend money to create a Galactic miliary because they did want to pay the taxes to created it. Instead they used the money to get richer and richer. well for one their ships are freaking ginormous. Any given capital ship is orders of magnitude larger than any real-life cruiser or battleship, and real-life cruisers and battleships cost alot. Also your making assumptions given their capabilities, star wars seems fairly technologically backwards, while they're very advanced in some ways their automation and industry leave alot to be desired. Plus, they dont seem capable of making very good composite materials and mostly just use metal.

Make more machines to make them, or even make machines to make those machines to make the fleets. We are already automating so much, and these guys with a few decades or even centuries more advanced can't mass produce at least a hundred times more than us?
There are people who live in huts today, and people who live in skyscrapers. So, yes, it makes sense what you mean by "technologically backwards" because its truly accurate, but we're not talking about the people in huts having to build these fleets.
This is a fictional world, so there will be flaws, but my whole argument is not just with Star Wars, but just about all futuristic civilizations in fiction being severely lacking in manufacturing capabilities. Its just so cliche, and if you could produce large quantities of fleets, wouldn't that make for a better story?
There is a game called Planetside 2. In this game, in the future they made this technology where when you die, you are kind of cloned back (kind of like Borderlands and a few other games, but this game applies this concept better for the purpose of where I'm going with this). So the whole concept of this game is that there is this never ending war because the soldiers never die, and rebuilding equipment is also rather easy (nanites). It would make for an interesting world. But nope, I may be super advanced but I've got to make a death star by hand, perfect sense.

40% casualties? That not canon, is it? Because there's no way the Republic would've lasted for more than a year taking losses like that. What most CW fans don't seem to take into account is that clones aren't just *slow* to be replaced. They're practically *irreplaceable*. They take 10 years to grow, which means the Republic would have to rely solely on the troops they had at the beginning of the war and whatever clones were already almost finished when the war started. Meaning there's no way they could account for the casualties they'd be taking, because they can't speed up production.
I've always figured that the only way the GAR would make sense is if the vast majority of it was made up of non-clones, freeing up the clones to act as an elite strike force that can be kept in reserve to be used wherever they're most needed.

What’s if the Colonial Marines from Aliens were to fight against the CIS, Galactic Empire or the first order?

    • @5h0rgunn45
      @5h0rgunn45 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The Colonial Marines would all be killed except for one individual badass who would cut through the enemy like a knife through butter and somehow complete the mission without actually accomplishing anything.

YES! I loved this video dude! I love tactics. I love how you pointed out in everything theres a plus and negative. The only issue is I wish we could see more negative for the CIS in the idea of retreat. Though the issue is CIS had the advantage in almost everything. As you stated if they retreated it still was a win. They were able to waste time and resources for the Republic AND more would rally to the cause.
I guess the only negative they would have is prolonging the war if they choose to retreat. Which was (unless I have this wrong) not the CIS goal.

I don´t know which of this two wars were more grim and devastating in context....
The Great Galactic War (3681 - 3653 BBY) from Legends or the Clone Wars (22 - 19 BBY)?.
Too much loses, too much chaos, despair, destruction and consequences in every corner.....

And it is said by the end of the clone wars the CIS had over a Quintillion or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 (18 zeros) battle droids in service. that’s a lot of droids! So even losing 1 million wouldn’t be that big of a loss. And there was 1.1 million droid during the battle of Geonosis.

WW2 dogfighting may look cool in space scenes but you'd think someone would have come up with a better retreat plan than just trying to Dunkerque off the planet when things go south. Ahh, the ups and downs of theming everything off of WW2...

The Jedi "Generals" had little to no understanding of logistics or warfare.
The clones were not expendable droids. Droids can be built and deployed easily with little to no requirements for upkeep aside from self-maintenance and power.
Clones required life support, food, water, bio-medical attention, costly and lengthy training, rest periods ect.
The CIS used droids as expendable as losing troops was simply a matter of money as they had the materiel. Armor isn't a big deal when made of metal and parts can be reused and programming/memories can be backed up an retrieved.
If the republic wasted clones, it was at least 5-10 years of lost time and resources in addition to money.
The Jedi should never have been generals, commanders with similar rank to the clone commanders mabe, but not overall generals.

If the CIS had overwhelming numbers and the element of surprise on their side why did they retreat from the Battle of Coruscant? Sure G. Grievous' ship was destroyed, Dooku was killed and the Jedi retrieved the Chancellor but the CIS still had the numbers so why didn't GG press the attack and try to take the Chancellor again?

Invading a planet in Star Wars and in our Universe in terms of scale depends on the size of the planet for instance Korriban the complete conquest of the planets surface would be like invading Earth youd need to send a whole bunch of forces cuz Korriban is 16,890 kilometers in diameter thats larger than Earth wich is 12,756 kilometers in diameter if im calculating correctly say if the Galactic Empire invaded earth im estimating they would need to send a few ten million troops to conquer earth or any planet depending on the size of the planet i could be wrong but its just my opinion.

To evacuate the allied army from Dunkerque, roughly 80 000 men ; mostly french, were left behind to slow down the enemy's advance ; and earn as much time as possible to allow the retreat. . . Rougly half of the defenders were killed, and the other half, captured. All material left behind was seized and used for the Nazi war effort ; and prisonners were sent to work camps.
This illustrate very well at wich cost a hasty retreat can come to

  • @iamfresh5032
    @iamfresh5032 4 ปีที่แล้ว

When CIS retreats, they only need to evacuate living commanders, every robot can be abandoned or destroyed because CIS has quite a lot.
But for the Grand Republic Army, it is another story.

  • @tedmyers8005

The brutality of their leaders allowed the CIS put their defeats to political use as well. For instance, when it became clear that the Republic was going to liberate Ryloth, Dooku ordered Wat Tambor to bomb villages so that its citizens would still suffer, illustrating the cost of a Republic victory.

One other thing is that healing wounded troops was pretty much the only way the republic could bandaid the slow production of their troopers. Retreating generally makes that impossible. To emphasize this, the beginning of the malevolence arc was about stopping the secret weapon from destroying a medical station which was treating thousands of wounded republic troopers. Definitely a big worry for the republic.
