What followed from this was that he spoke, he preached. Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. Again, after they (including Peter and John) had prayed following being threatened not to preach in the name of Jesus, were said to all be filled with the Holy Ghost...and they SPAKE the word of God with boldness. Acts 6:3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. When they were going to choose those to serve as deacons, one of the criteria was for such to be full of the Holy Ghost. Without much ado, this will be in tandem of its application prior to now and afterwards. It will therefore also point to such persons as given to supernatural utterances or speaking. Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, Vs 56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. Stephen at the point of being stoned to death was recorded to have been full of the Holy Ghost, he saw and spoke of things seen in the spirit. Thus we can understand from these that the concept of “being filled with the spirit” 📌 Is not the same as the indwelling of the spirit (which is at the new birth and the basis on which a man can be filed with the spirit). 📌 Deals with SPEAKING/UTTERANCE: particularly supernatural speaking. 📌 Is not a one-time occurrence, as it can and should happen over and over again. Hence, as believers, based on the fact that the spirit lives in us, we are admonished to be filled with the spirit: Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Vs 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Paul says to not be drunk with wine (to be under its influence or control), but be filled with the spirit. The statement “be filled with the spirit” is in a present continuous tense. It can be properly understood as “be being filled with the spirit”....speaking to yourselves. Thus he explains that admonition of being filled with the spirit in speaking to yourselves in psalms and (that is) hymns and (that is) spiritual songs. Therefore, seeing the fact that the spirit lives in us, we can as believers choose to be filled with the spirit speaking over and over again. CONFESSION: “The spirit lives in me, therefore I can choose to be filled with the spirit; to supernatural utterances: to tongues, prophecy, psalms which are hymns and spiritual songs”
