    The thing I don’t like about the exterior window covers is the get wet. Then you have to rinse & dry them prior to storage. They do use the limited space well. And the quality is well known. Lotta boat for 27’.

      We love our R27-OB. We looked at the R23, 25 and 27 (all outboards). The 27 has the weight, the horsepower, and the space to make cruising, fishing, fun, and can handle the seas well. We spent a couple hours in 3-5 foot seas with the occasional 6footer, last Friday (next weeks video). We wanted the outboard for the ease of maintenance, and we wanted the speed. The R27 is among the fastest of the Ranger Tug family of boats.

    I just discovered your videos and absolutely love them! I live on the east coast in South Carolina so Ranger Tugs are not a very common sight around here. I’m looking at the R27 as my next boat as I absolutely love the design and features that Ranger put into the boat. The only thing I’ve heard about the R27 is that because of the narrow beam it can be very rolly in anything other than calm water. I would be especially concerned about sleeping aboard and getting severely rocked by passing boat wakes. I have previously owned a 34ft sailboat with a similar displacement so I’m used to a lighter boat getting moved around but I figured I’d reach out to you guys and see what your thoughts on the whole “comfort factor” of the boat was like. Thanks!

      Thanks for watching. We're so glad you found our channel!
      When we first looked at Ranger Tugs, we looked at the R23 very seriously. We'd heard stories about it not being that great in bad seas, narrow beam, and light weight and only a 200hp engine. The R27, being heavier, had much better reviews in angry water. The 8.5' beam makes it ideal to trailer (no permits required).
      We've had Channel Surfing in 3-5 foot seas. Spent almost 2 hours rocking, rolling, going up the wave, down the wave... (One of our past video's talks about this). The RT27 did fantastic. Any boat will do great in flat water. The RT27 handled 3-5 foot seas with ease. We just took our time making 5kts, headed south, into a south wind of 20-30kts (wind and waves from the bow). Only to do it again, a day later, but we were headed North with a South wind of 15-25kts in 2-4 foot seas. (seas and weather coming from the stern). Not something I'd recommend, but the boat handled it without issue. We were warm, dry and felt safe.

    • @Letsgochannelsurfing
      @Letsgochannelsurfing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We've also spent many a night sleeping on the boat, boats at anchor and at a marina. Passing wakes haven't been much of a problem. The key to a good nights sleep for us was getting a 3" mattress topper for the v-berth.

      We have the Northwest Edition, so no Air Conditioning. In the Pacific Northwest, we don't really need A/C anyways. The 2021 LE's that come with LifePo4 batteries are 600Ah (it's 6 batteries), which yield about 540Ah usable. The A/C unit Ranger Tug says will draw about 65-75 amps. This would provide about 6 hours of A/C in addition to the rest of the electrical loads on the boat.

    Enjoyed your video. One of the best video that I’ve seen. I’ve been looking at this model. Did you buy new ? Does the Ranger Tug Company stand behind their product ? Can not believe how expensive these boats are as compared to used Bayliner, Silverton and Carver. Currently have a 1996 Bayliner 2858 with flybridge. It is a fantastic design. Has a great sittee. I just cruise San Francisco Bay. I only paid $42,000 for it. It was like new when I bought it. Bayliner does not make this model anymore. The one drawback is the outdrive and gas mileage. However, it’s paid for.

      Thanks for watching our videos!!
      We bought ours brand new. Ordered it during the boat show in January and waited for it to be built. Took delivery in June.
      Ranger Tug most definitely stands behind their product. We've only had one warranty repair (the ski pole). They had it fixed within a couple of weeks. They've also been very responsive to questions and were thorough in our 2 day factory delivery (one day spent going over all the systems, 1 day spent on the water driving, docking, anchoring, maneuvering).
      They are expensive boats. We like to say, we were in the market for waterfront property and found Ranger Tugs. The last boat we owned was a 22' Maxum bowlder. We bought that boat, then had to immediately add a wakeboard tower, chart plotter, transducer, VHF radio, second battery for house loads, stereo... Conversely, the Ranger Tug came with everything. Chartplotter, auto pilot, radar, VHF, transducer, cabin heater (diesel), hot water tank (AC power), an inverter, 2 house battery, bow thruster with dedicated battery, engine battery, galvanic isolator, electrical panel for AC and DC, 3 bilge pumps, full galley with an oven ran off propane, electric grill, full head with shower, kicker motor with wireless remote for steering, 19" TV with DVD player, 140watt solar panel... The list of features continues... When you purchase a Ranger Tug, you literally could just bring your fishing pole when you take delivery, and head out same day to go fishing. They even delivered the boat with propane, diesel, gas, water all topped off/full.
      Being our waterfront property, we keep her fully loaded such that to head out to sea we just bring food and a change of clothes. We've spent as much as 10 days consecutive on the boat. We've also done multiple days at sea/anchor without shore power.
      Interesting that you mentioned Bayliner and that they don't make your model anymore. We looked at ALL boats at the boat show in January. Bayliner, Searay, American Tugs, Nordic Tugs, Jeanneau, C-Dory, to name a few... Bayliner/Searay (both owned by Brunswick, who also owned Maxum), there weren't any Bayliners with a cabin, and the Searay cabin cruisers started at 32' or bigger for a lot more money. We found Ranger Tug offered the best value and fit and finish, with an awesome floor plan that we really liked.

    • @Letsgochannelsurfing
      @Letsgochannelsurfing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In addition to Ranger Tug standing behind their product, they have also created a community. They host events throughout the year. The biggest one being the Rendezvous in September, held in Roche Harbor, (San Juan Island) that brings in 200+ boats for a 4 day weekend. They host an online forum at tugnuts dot com, which is a great source of information to search through, as well as to post questions of other Ranger Tug owners. When cruising marina to marina, we frequently run into other Ranger Tug owners on the dock and are always meeting new people, making new friends. Other events they host throughout the year, a cruise to Poets Cove/Bedwell Harbor, British Columbia and a multiple day cruise up to Desolation Sound, British Columbia.
      I've also got the cell numbers of about a half dozen folks who work at Ranger Tug and have called them a couple of times with questions. They've been great to work with. Being that we are in WA state, our Ranger Tug dealer is the actual factory.

    • @Letsgochannelsurfing

      Great question and thanks for watching! Our top speed is about 33 knots. I've done some performance testing with the factory 3 blade prop as well as a 4 blade PowerTech that I upgraded to. The performance testing the factory has published was done on a new boat, empty, with 3 guys from Yamaha onboard, and the tanks all partially filled, in calm conditions. It's realistic testing and they are real numbers. But that's not how I boat. We keep our boat stocked with pots, pans, dishes, drinks, change of clothing, cleaning supplies, fishing gear, chairs, tools, spare parts... and leave the dock with all tanks full except the SAN tank.
      Here's the performance testing numbers off Channel Surfing with both the 3 and 4 blade prop for comparison.

      @@donchin106 If we had to list a flaw, I'd say the following: The blower/fan as a defroster is marginal at best. Keeping the front windows from fogging we struggle with, especially in bad seas with water splashing everywhere. We're looking at a portable AC or DC powered fan for the port side to augment this need. We found ourselves in 3-5 foot seas last Friday, with the occasional 6footers. We spent a couple hours in that mess. Boat handled really well. (Our video next week is about this). But with all the water splashing around outside the boat, it was a real struggle keeping the front window from fogging up so I could see the oncoming waves.

    • @Letsgochannelsurfing
      @Letsgochannelsurfing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The R27 is trailerable easily. It's 2.6meters wide, and slightly less than 10 meters long. The Northwest Edition comes with a Webasto Diesel heater and the boat has a 19 litre diesel tank. This heats the cabin nicely and 19 litre's of diesel lasts a long time. I don't think you could fit a wood stove in the cabin, but with the diesel heater, you wouldn't need it. I've heard of a Gyro stabilizer being added to an R27. But that's not certainly something commonly done. The space and power requirements for a gyro would be significant.

We're just finishing up upgrading our house bank to Firefly G31 and am going to re-run our testing of running the electric grill off the inverter, engine and house in parallel (to bypass the ACR's), and idle the engine. In general you do NOT want something on board a fiberglass boat that can catch fire like candles with an open flame and charcoal grills. I doubt your boat insurance company would pay if you burned your boat down. Fiberglass boats, once on fire, are almost impossible to extinguish in time to "save" the boat. The fires are so hot and advance so fast that you might not have time to get off your boat. Electric grill is much safer, and battery powered "fake" candles are safest. Marina boat fires often take out several boats, and if your boat caused the fire you probably don't have sufficient coverage to replace 6 or more other destroyed boats! Be safe!
