For a lot of power wheels / Kid Trax you can if you like put a motor on the OTHER rear wheel on the opposite side and tie it into the same cabling (swap polarity on the motor) which will increase your torque and traction.
If you have overheating issues with this type of motor you should allow some airflow by drilling holes into the plastic. Also you should get a Motor cooler, it's the same principle as a PC's cooler but specifically for these motors (also comes with a little fan for extra cooling power). I've been using them in my high powered RC cars for a long time and never had a motor burn out on me!
Best video I've seen on the topic so far. Thank you! I put a 12Ah lifepo4 in my 10 month olds with remote control and just had an rx43/and 40,000 rpm motor delivered. Yea I have some sky high wire lying around, I should switch everything out it would probably help with heat for sure. Why have been fun to mess around with.

Great video! You have inspired me to tackle fixing my grand-daughter's FEBER Land Rover. 1 of the 2 6V motors burned up. I thought of putting in 2 12v motors, but can't find ones with 8 tooth gear. suggestions?
If you put another motor on the other side, it could reduce the stress on the other motor. There seems to be a hole for the motor. The question is what the other wheel looks like. Some vehicles have a different wheel, that doesn't have a place for the motor to attach. In that case, you would probably have to order a replacement wheel, for the motor side. Some vehicles, however, have identical wheels, and a removable spacer, to take the place of the motor. That's the most ideal case.

Super helpful! I've got one of these things laying around the house and you're right...it's slower than dirt. Would it make the car even faster to do 2x 12v motors? This is going to be my first foray into modded ride-ons
It won’t make it any faster but it will split the load between the motors thus creating less heat and failure of the motors themselves. All the load being on one motor creates a lot of heat, heat over time leads to failure. Thank you! The lithium batteries from our drill batteries will last a very long time. One 4ah battery last about 45-60 minutes of continuous run time. Cheers, report back and let us know how it went.
That would be a good question. I think it would have an effect on the battery life for sure, however. You will be running much more efficient, therefore I think that will cause less battery draw as well as the sustainability of a longer lasting setup. Only way to find out for sure would be to test between the two, however I would highly recommend just doing whatever is the easiest and enjoy it. If you want to save those motors get a large (500uF) capacitor that is more volts than your motor (50V for a 20V battery) and put it between the positive and negative on the motor. It acts like a shock absorber for electromagnetic spikes inside the motor when you're running higher voltage and start/stop like these things do. Blew a few before learning this trick. Keeps temps way down. You can also put a self-recovering fuse inline so that if the motor is getting too hot that fuse will trip instead and stay tripped until it cools down.
So, 18 Volts won't burn up the controller or lights in this model? Been wanting to convert one of these for my son with two 6v or two 12v motors and 18v battery. Thanks
One question please, I have bought a car for my son and I changed the motors, I put in higher revs. my problem is that it works for 15 seconds and then it turns off by itself and turns on after 5 seconds. this happens constantly. it had a 12v battery 4.5Ah and I put a new 12v 9Ah one but it still does the same thing. Do you know what the problem is? Can you help me?
upgrading my kids 4 wheeler like your pink one. Blew the motor with 20v Dewalt to the 6v motor. Put a drill motor in there, but still slow. Can you post a link or do video to the pink quad with regulator?
@@SkylerStutzman thanks, I looked around but didnt see much on that mod topic. Much appreciated, even if it's a quick video. I have a feeling with the regulator it still has a cap, though allowing the full voltage to pass through increasing speed?
Doesn’t have a cap. You will be able to turn down the voltage that the motors are seeing from the battery regulating the speed of the motors to your comfort level per child.
Links to all the things I am using I left a link in the video so that you would be able to find these mods a little bit easier. The 3D printed blocks to be able to mount your dewalt drill battery or Milwaukee is a very nice feature to have that makes everything very clean.
So i'm looking at doing my first mod on a ride on (Blazin Wheels 12V UTV Wild Cross). Got it free from a neighbor and while it seems to be charging the battery, the car won't go forward and backwards for more then about 2 seconds. I'm following the link you have for the 40k and you had mentioned in the video that it had the metal gear, but the amazon page shows it as having a plastic gear. is there a different one to use at this point? Though I'm basing it off the first picture and the inner gearbox picture and the show plastic gears
Skyler, I upgraded my child’s i8 with the parts you recommended. I’ve switched the battery out now maybe 6 or 7 times. Lately it will run for about 3 seconds and then turn off, after about 5 seconds it turns back on. I hear a small click inside the motor when it turns on back. You think I fried it already? FYI I left all the wiring stock so the fuse is still there as well, not sure if this is tripping it.
Ever get a fix for this my little mans i8 is going through the same thing, I am about to gut the controller for steering and just wire with micro switches and batteries.
Great video, that kid can drive! I've got a twin motor Hummer that I want to upgrade to run on grass, about to install 18v, but what motors do you think would be best? Torque more important than speed! Thanks!

I have links down below to batteries and the 3D printed battery holder to get a proper setup going for your Hummer.
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm going to try it on my 18v Makita batteries and see how it runs then. Bought a speed controller too, it was a free broken Hummer from Facebook but hopefully the motors will last a while with the 18v!
I got a Hot Wheels ATV hunting style for my 5 year old boy and I don't understand why you turn the steering wheel right and the wheels go left it didn't used to do that any opinions??
I have a car like this and it has an RX18 12V (15ah) receiver and 2 12v 12000rpm motors. It came with 2 6V 4ah batteries. For an upgrade, what I did was buy 2 new 12v 35000rpm motors and a 12v rx43 receiver (40ah). Now that I have installed everything the car has no power to pull out it and I just don't know what to do. When it finishes charging the batteries it has the power to pull out well or 2 or 3 times at inclined location, but if it's at a straight track it pull out normally and get high speeds. If I need new batteries, what is the best combination? 2 new 6V batteries powerful, 1 new 12V or 2 new 12 batteries?

turn no matter how much they turn the steering wheel.lmao
Or..gardening divider ( $30 p/ 3O feet roll) it's just 4mm thick flat harder plastic.
It takes...work..becuase the plastic is stiffer. ..and you'll have to COUNTER SUNK
the FLAT HEAD sheet metal screws..so it'll sit as flush as it can...So it WONT GRIP.lol
They'll figure out how to do powerslide and donuts..It's sort of like a little bumper
car for them. More work.....but it is what is. They wont drive it..unless it drift.lmao
Or get used power wheels every month for $30..lol
They're always on sale on FB market or swamp meets...ect
I could had purchase 4-ea the other day...but i have 12 cars already.lol
I have nephews and grand kids...it's like a mad house in my front yards..
when I get 6 kids on powerwheels racing/drifting on 18v-20V.lmao
Try installing another motor on the other side....but why..just get a used power wheels
for $30.lol
I have Not powerwheels brand 12V with 2 -ea motors... I ran it on 18V...
The powerwheels gose faster...due to gearing. Th e kids wont ride it..becuase
they know which one is faster.lol

Thank you for sharing all that info, that was a fantastic amount of info!
@@SkylerStutzman would really love to see two motors on that bmw just bought one but my son tested it was screaming faster couldnt help with that but push the thing... now it just sits on the corner untouched...
Something I still need to do for sure
If you want to save those motors get a large (500uF) capacitor that is more volts than your motor (50V for a 20V battery) and put it between the positive and negative on the motor. It acts like a shock absorber for electromagnetic spikes inside the motor when you're running higher voltage and start/stop like these things do. Blew a few before learning this trick. Keeps temps way down.
You can also put a self-recovering fuse inline so that if the motor is getting too hot that fuse will trip instead and stay tripped until it cools down.
Hey Doc, got a link?
@@lukeschlitzer5460 Amazon has. You'll notice there is usually one on the stock 6v motor already.
So, 18 Volts won't burn up the controller or lights in this model? Been wanting to convert one of these for my son with two 6v or two 12v motors and 18v battery.
Thanks
Have had nothing but success over here. I offer no warranties however! 🤣
DAVE KNOTT I will do a video here soon. Stay posted. 🤙🏼
@@SkylerStutzman saw the links, and always much appreciated!
Email me some pictures so I can see your setup and help you out if I can!
Stutzmanskyler@gmail.com
Ever get a fix for this my little mans i8 is going through the same thing, I am about to gut the controller for steering and just wire with micro switches and batteries.
You use single motor or double motor ?
Great video, that kid can drive! I've got a twin motor Hummer that I want to upgrade to run on grass, about to install 18v, but what motors do you think would be best? Torque more important than speed! Thanks!
madbroon95 I have ran many different setups but I would be more curious to see how it does on 18 volts first before changing the motors. The stock motors can last a long time without replacing them.
@@Fuzz.Buzz.Stop.Motion report back and let us know how it goes.
How did it go? I'm interested in doing the same thing.
Hi did you change 12v controller board also? The one you can use remote for the car thanks
I got a Hot Wheels ATV hunting style for my 5 year old boy and I don't understand why you turn the steering wheel right and the wheels go left it didn't used to do that any opinions??
Between all the motor upgrades I’m surprised that little rubber strip on the plastic wheel grips.
Is the gearbox universal can fit in any wheel like your child car? i just order one and afraid that it won't fit to my child car wheel..
I would switch it over to a Milwaukie battery at 18v
@@SkylerStutzman hey how has this setup worked for you ... my son is 4 ... and want to make his car faster ... ...but i dont wanna be switching motors want to say set it and forget it after i do it ... lmfao
Get a voltage regulator off amazon. I left links in the description of everything you should use to have a wicked setup! 🍻
Preaty cool salute to you 🎉
Looks great but you can make it even faster.
Thank you, I believe I just need deeper pockets like yourself.
With one motor is it one wheel drive?
Yes it is! It does very well as you can see, but I think it would def do better if it had two motors.
How do you wire the voltage controller.? Just ordered parts for the same car and was curious?
Battery to voltage controller i,n voltage controller out, to motor
Is there a video of how’d you connect the Milwaukee battery to the car?
On this car I just have the positive and negative plugged straight into the battery. However there is a 3D printed Milwaukee battery adapter that I have since put on all of my cars. I left the link in the video for you to be able to find easily! 🤙🏼
Also does the motor have to upgraded if swapping to an 18v Milwaukee
I ran the original 6volt motor until it blew
Would this work with a Remote control driven as in I have a remote I control the Range Rover what's it called
The wheel is not moving for me what should I do?
Need further explanation
How long does it last on a Milwaukee battery? Sorry if it's been asked before.
About an hour to an hour and half
#Culdesac life...well done sir
James Pratt thank you very much.
Hey man i need some hel with the wiring
What do you need to know
These drill batteries do not have low voltage protection. A better idea is adding a low voltage cut off board and they are quite inexpensive compare to a battery
For what reason exactly?
@@SkylerStutzman lithium batteries will be permanently damaged if over-discharged
You mean like when you use them in your drill and run it completely out of power.
I think you are mistaking lithium and lead acid batteries.
@@SkylerStutzman nope, the tools won't start under a certain voltage. But no protection circuit on the battery itself. You can do a quick search to tell if I'm right or not Here is one havocware.com/power-wheels-milwaukee-battery-run-time-tests-low-voltage-protection-installation/
I’ll take a gander. Thanks for the info!
Anyone know where I can get a replacement model
For a Mercedes Benz g63 12volt for a kid I bought one but I can’t get the axel ! Company won’t help

@@SkylerStutzman Are you responding to my call for help lol not sure how this whole thing on TH-cam works but it said I had a message or a response hope all is well don’t even know you lol lol
Yes, I left links in the description that will take you yo amazon. From there you will be able to find a lot of different things for these cars!
She's too cute. I did something similar to my sons car and he wouldn't drive it LOL
7 months later, how are these holding up? Thanks!
Joshua Campbell I have gone through another motor and have converted a couple other power wheels over to 18volt. Heat is the killer in these things. The more they ride them the more likely they are to kill the motors.
Did u use the stock esc on the bmw?
Yep, changed nothing else out tbh
Yea i raced rc cars for years and i juat bought the bmw for my daughter couldnt wait to get my hands on it haha nice vid btw.
Do u think i should get the speed controller for it though just incase or dont worry about it? Like for backup.
Thank you very much
As you seen on the pink quad, I installed a controller. It makes it nice so that you can put it exactly where you want it. Worth the 18 bucks I suppose.
My daughter have the same bmw and I just did the upgrade to use my Milwaukee 18 volt battery but the car stops after a while all of the sudden and then starts after a few seconds.
Did you remove the thermal fuse on yours? I still have it on mine and maybe that is what it causing the problem
I did take that fuse out of the equation.
@@SkylerStutzman Thank you for the quick reply. I will remove the fuse as well.
Have you had any issues with the wiring getting to hot after removing it? I do have an in-line fuse holder that I can install. I am wondering a 20A fuse will work as a replacement for the thermal just to have some kind of protection
I honestly rock no protection, I am always watching however.
@@ivanaguilar5314 30A fuse seems to be commonly used. Get the kids to use it for a solid 10 mins and feel the wires. If they are not too warm you should be fine.
^^^ what he said
Do you have to wire in regulator or fuses or anything, or just run it straight to a DeWalt battery from the motor?
how long does that battery last?
About 45-1hr of continuous run time. Easily.
If direct power straight to the motors you can get 15mph off 12v battery
Do you have a video or something I can watch this from. That sounds awesome. Would love to see how to gain anything more from these things.
@@SkylerStutzman I just have on off switch hooked under the pedal and when it turns off the gears will slow it down to a stop in a second. Start tearing into it
Remote controller board is too hot, car stopped
Should just go brushless, and never change motors again. Its not too complicated converting to brushless..
If it's a 12 volt why not put a 12 volt motorcycle battery
Because an 18v drill battery can supply way more power
With those $14 Motors you're getting why don't you spend an extra ten bucks and get yourself some heat sinks for a 550 case motor. And some small 40 mm fans. That's what I did and I'm running 20 volts on a two stock 550 case Motors. And with the heat sinks and fans they run sub Ambien Even In the Heat of the day
