This was a frustrating battle. I recently replayed Twilight of the Spirits last month, after playing/beating it when it first came out in 2003. Always had fond memories of this game, but this final boss took a while and I almost gave up. :P
I'm surprised that in all the game walkthroughs I read about how to beat the final boss, barely anyone included Tatjana. She's very useful in this fight, her sigma storm attack can wipe out several mini eyeballs at once.
I've used her in the fight before, but spamming Sigma Storm gets costly, and generally her normal attack isn't that great (it can be improved though, but Maru's overall better for distance fighting, Paulette in second with the right accessory). Personally, at this point I tend to overlevel by the end of this game, and just pick my favorites and run up and smash the boss with dual-attacks after enough eyeballs have been killed. I don't even really have to worry about the eye-beam, doesn't do enough damage when you're level 40+ with darkness defense accessories, and any health he steals from melee can be made up for easily. If you're using the normal method for this boss though, yeah, your distance fighters come in handy.
Thank you very, very much! By seeing this, I'll know how to prepare myself for this. I don't want to lose 'cause, as you said, there are a lot of cutscenes and 2 bosses before him, so it would be really annoying. Thanks again! ^^
I didn't cheat during this game. It's played on a New Save+. One of the bonus items they give is a Romantic Stone (reduces spirit stone usage to 0), and you can also earn one from an arena, giving you two. Even on a normal first time run it's possible to get at least one if you put forth the effort.
@stefania12011998 Attack him when the black fog around him is completely gone (kill mini-brains to do this), you'll only do full damage then. Equip things that give you light-based attacks for better effect (also helps kill the mini-brains faster).
This was such an easy boss battle. Get everyone with long range weapons (Meru, Tatjana, Paulette, Camilia) on the sidelines of the battlefield so that Divine Ruler’s shadow laser CANT hit them, but not close enough to the Divine Ruler than he can absorb their health. Equip Diekbeck with the shadow talisman won from the Beck robot in the ruins, so that he can stand directly in the middle and tank the mini-eyeballs. Tatjana can wreck all the enemies including Divine Ruler with her sigma storm and Diekbeck can annihilate everything in sight with his Diek-break attack (especially if he has that item that allows him to do skills for free/no spirit stones) so he can spam it. Then literally no one gets hit and the Divine Ruler goes down quickly.
i prefer using his move divine judgment for diekbeck aswell as maru and his great hunter arrowand you can have a slightly less ranged character in front of them. from playing im pretty sure the max range you can be away from the eyeball to not get hit is the range of bebadoras dark extreme.
All of my characters are wearing equipment that reduces Darkness damage. It also helps they're levels are in the high 40 - low 50 range. I did a lot of arenas this playthrough which is great for leveling.
@Syudu One you get from beating the highest difficulty at the Lamda arena on Kharg's side, the second you can only get on a New Game+ file, Darc's team will have it at the start.
Yes. I know it is possible to reach lvl 99. I haven't bothered because there really isn't any reason to. Also, yes, that is me in my TH-cam pic. I'm a casual cosplayer. If I look like the character, I've done my job, so thank you for the compliment ^-^ There are even more pics of me in this costume on my DeviantArt page (I have the same username there, so I'm easy to track down), if you would like to see more.
Key to this battle is to line everyone up on the sides so he can't use his really strong attack. This attack brings up his cloud of darkness rendering your attacks useless. All you gotta do is get to the sides, kill the brain cells, and have Maru hammer away at him. For some reason Maru was really powerful for me towards the end of the game lol. I guess he did have that crystal arrowhead, make sure to equip him with that.
Also, Maru will be your big damage-dealer for this fight. make sure he has Great Hunter, and if you have a Romantic Earring or Stone, use it. Anything to cut down SS cost. If he has a Crystal Arrowhead, use that too. Have him spam GH whenever the boss' black mist shield goes down (after having your short-range fighters kill enough of the mini-eyes). It'll take a while, but be patient, and if done right, he'll go down. My first time ever beating this boss took an hour, but I did it.
@HikariKirameku Yeah the reason why my characters were weak is because i always retreated from battles that i encountered randomly because i wanted to finish the game only time when i actually fought men was if it was unretreatable lol
I forgot all the characters names since it's been SO awfully long. I just used the kid with the bow and had all my characters stand on the utmost-left of the screen. Nothing could damage my team this way. Cheap, but hell... so is an allpowerful-screencovering megabeam >.>;...
@fantezie Nope. This game is a standalone, so you don't have to have played the first three. The game will make references from time to time, but anything relevant to the plot is explained.
He's wearing the Black Talisman, it reduces dark damage to basically nothing. He's a main party healer/buffer and attacker, so I had to make sure there was no way he was going down.
You're welcome. I know the cutscenes and battles beforehand are a pain :P ... especially considering, to record all of the footage I got, I had to go through them at least 4 times. The ending took me two attempts, cause the first screwed up...so I actually did this boss fight twice all the way through. This is the better run though.
@jowlzaahNZ Unfortunately, I don't think you can get them anywhere in the Castle, unless you can steal them off of something (I've never tested this though). I've had to start over once for the same reason. This is also why I've learned you should always make a back-up save outside the final dungeon.
@NarutoOwnsU It's just time-consuming. He's actually really easy once you get the rhythm of the battle down, and that's only if the party isn't overleveled. Now the bosses in Kingdom Hearts II: FM+, those ones suck...
The talisman I think was a treasure or stolen from a boss. I can't remember ^^; The charms are buyable from various shops. I know the one in Aramis Springs sells them.
@EatMyCookie1234 If you were trying to follow my video on killing him, you need to be at a high level (My group was around lvl 50). There's a different strategy for killing him at lower levels.
Maru alone can solo this boss, believe it or not. If everyone is against the wall he can't hit with the beam, and will just keep spawning mini brains.. Maru can shoot him from the sidelines with his normal attack provided he has the extended range bowstring. With light element, he can one-shot the minibrains as well. If you don't have light based attacks, well.... be prepared to grind a LOT.
@DeathEndrance They pretty much killed any chance for any future games with EoD. It was that bad. Only good thing that came from it was meeting a few new friends through the online mode.
Around what level are your characters? Low-level characters need to use different strategies. Also, if you're missing items that defend against dark attacks, or items that inflict light-element attacks, that will make this fight a lot more difficult.
Man, this was such an amazing game. I have my own copy but sadly its very scratched. Need to find a way to restore it. Been reeeeeally wanting to play this again. Not many games nowadays really give a good, long single player. Mostly focused on multiplayer.
I still think Demon Droguza's harder, he was giving my lvl 40+ characters a run for their money (he only managed to kill Camellia though, cause she's got crap for HP). But depending on your level and equips, who you take into the final battle can make thing either easy or harder. At the higher levels, it doesn't really matter. I was taking the eyebeam of doom without even hitting half health.
LOL. I spent hours trying to defeat the final boss. In the end, I just let my CD collect dust until I forgot about it. My memory card probably got corrupted which is why I couldn't finish it. I loved this game though. One of my favorites for the PS2 along with FFX/X-2.
The characters are between lvl 40-50, so that would help the stats, plus they had some nice stuff equipped. I still think Demon Droguza was the hardest fight in this game...I loathe that battle. This one's more annoying than anything.
@jason13660 I never had the patience to level grind that high. If I did, I'd try and hit lvl 99, since they all get an extra line they'll say in battle. According to a game script I've found though, they aren't that impressive.
Christ, I discovered this game back in 2003. My friend had a demo of it and I just fell in love. I decided to start it again a couple of weeks ago and just beat it again tonight! This video actually helped me beat him, based on timing anyway. Still took foreverrr though, seems like unless your party is leveled up between 40 - 50 it takes ages to get it done. Blahhh. How do you have the patience to level them up so much?
With no black charms, you'll have a disadvantage, but you're at least at a decent level. First bit of advice would be to ditch Ganz. He's slow, short range, and horrible for this fight. Replace him with Delma, Tatjana, or Camelia, whoever's strongest at this point, but they MUST have Magic (or Element) Guard. Tatjana and Camelia can also heal, but tend to be squishy, so Delma may make a better choice. Use Magic/Element Guard to up your elemental defenses. This will help immensely.
My people were kinda low level when I did this I used paulet the plant karg and darc volk ,maroo (my favroute)... Maroo was lv 41 I think and darc was 34 I think the rest were lv 20 odd and I really found it hard to kill this boss however I must add I did keep my people to the wall so laser beam dd'nt hit me but the eyeballs could only kill one in 3 hits
Greg Williams I didn't really do much of the tournament for the demios the fact that I could not use magic really put me off i really used only used my demos people to power up like boost attack i had one buffer on each side my only people with good attack were maroo and darc but Camilla had insane damage when using a item to weakwen him to earth magic but i used her as a healer mainly and a lil attack due to her range
Maru has a bigger range, the characters get more experience on what they hit -- Darc's range is okay, but he has to be up close to them, Maru can hit almost anything using a standard attack because it's so long. Even using standard attack on the trees, boxes, those weird crystal orbs in the castle, etc. gives characters more experience. In fact, I recommend finding boxes when you're in battle with Dilzweld. Most of the time they have rare items.
Im currently lvl 36 darc lvl 34 kharg and the rest late 20's , i find this so impossible to do without any light elements to help, any place i can buy or find them in the castle? because i dont want to start all over again lol,
Hi, I have a question, I have already finished the game, so I started it again and they give to my Darc a special thing that helps me to use magic free, whitout spend spirits stones, but, my question is: How do I get an object like that for my Kharg? Thanks a lot.
The only way to get one for Kharg's team is to beat the Lamda arena 30 round challenge. It's tough, but possible. It's normally the only way to get one too, which is why Darc starting with one on a NewGame+ is so awesome.
When i played this game back in elementary kid i never used buff skills I thought the best way to beat them was just using attack moves So thats why i never got to kill that last boss ;^;
YES! Both sides get 100,00g, 10 Bountiful Fruit, 999 Spirit stones, and three Diamond Coatings. Kharg's side will get 50 Rescue Kits and a King Statuette Darc's side gets 50 Dilz Bombs and a ROMANTIC STONE (AKA, FREE MAGIC, it is amazing!) Best part, if you do the Lamda Arena on the New Game +, you can also earn the usual Romantic Stone from there in Kharg's chapters, giving you two by the end of the game like I have in this video, since this was recorded from a New Game + file. Darc and Kharg have them equipped.
I just need to know when you get inside the castle, can you still level up if your dudes aren't strong enough to beat this guy or should I do that all before entering?
+Luke9er9er You can still level in the castle. However, make sure you have any and all accessories and such before you go in. Make sure you have things to give yourself light elemental attacks, and things to boost your dark defense. Once you enter the final dungeon, you can't leave (and the game even warns you about this). There's places to heal and buy some things like Spirit Stones inside though. Personally, I've always found I get the best leveling from beating the coliseums. Once you get through those, you can pretty much ROFL-stomp anything else this game can throw at you.
+HikariKirameku all right cool thanks! I plan on using the same crew you have here and my Kharg is at 36 and Darc 35 and Maru 33 Paulette Volk and Delma are all 32 so I was just worried if I should get them to 40 before entering the castle or not but that helps thanks!
+HikariKirameku I was worried no one would reply because it's been so long since this game has been played but I recently just bought it on PS4 again. I quit this game when I was younger because I didn't know how to beat this dude and TH-cam and other internet sources didn't exist to help hahaha!
I think I'm maybe one of two people that were/are really into this game. I lost my ability to record gameplay last year when my old computer crashed, but I still keep an eye on my channel. I'm hoping to finish my other playthrough if I can ever afford a new capture device compatible with this my new PC.
+HikariKirameku I think it's one of the most underrated RPG games out there. Everything about this game is great. I'm on the green floor of the Flying castle right now.
You also don't want to be in melee range unless you can dish out more damage than his health absorbing attack does. It's the main reason the fight can take so long at lower levels.
@@HikariKirameku you actually dont want to do that either because getting hit restores his shield. it doesnt come back unless he hits his eye beam attack
It would be nice if it did. I finally own a PS3, so if my PS2 ever died, I could buy a digital version at least. Plus, there are so many people who missed the good PS2 gen RPGs...
Quite literally the worst boos Ive ever faceed in any game ever, RPG, turn based, or neither. I almost snapped my controller in half, when i was done, I literally took the disc out of the machine and threw it across my room. 0/10 would not play again.
Took me 45 minutes to beat him the first time I ever played this game, cause I was woefully underleveled and unprepared, so it gives me great joy to know how to ROFLstomp him now.
@DeathEndrance You don't see Darc, or even hear anyone mention him by name, and he's apparently fallen off the planet. Paulette gets a letter from Kharg, and it has two pictures of him. That's it. The game sucks so hard, is so poorly written, and contradicts Twilight of the Spirits so much that I don't consider it canon.
It's very time-consuming, but yes, by the time you're done, you'll have snagged some nifty items, extra characters, and can breeze through the rest of the game.
You have to finish before the end of Kharg's ch. 6, otherwise some get completely cut off. I do Darc's team's during his Ch. 5, and Kharg's team's during Ch. 6.
Whenever i get that close to him and his darkness barrier is down he pwns all my guys. To have his darkness down for 2 turns and then have him just spawn an eyeball is pure bullshit >.> Pardon my french ( FUCK YOUR LUCK)
i hated this thing it had around 11 hp left and even though kharg cammila and darcALL had that fire tension thing and where still next to that thing they didnt kill him and then criticle hit on everyone minus camilla who didnt die she did 10 damage and then he killed her FUCK HIM and i was lvl 34 at kharg he was the strongest i was REAALLLY under lvled

@tobimadara24 I have two Romantic Stone accessories that reduce the cost to zero. The others have Romantic Earrings, which cut the cost by half.

why Dark and Kharg don't have to pay any spirit stones when they use their magic or spesial move
@supersonic070 You can buy them from certain shops, I bought most of mine at the oasis place outside the Flying Castle.
Yeah, this is definitely one of the hardest bosses if you come unprepared. If you are ready for him, though, he can be pathetically easy :P

@NarutoOwnsU try final fantasy 12
This just HAS To come out on the PSN ._.
Also, just wondering if you get any perks starting a new game using the "Finished Game" file.
YES! Both sides get 100,00g, 10 Bountiful Fruit, 999 Spirit stones, and three Diamond Coatings.
Kharg's side will get 50 Rescue Kits and a King Statuette
Darc's side gets 50 Dilz Bombs and a ROMANTIC STONE (AKA, FREE MAGIC, it is amazing!)

You're welcome. Good luck!
Does anyone else think Quest 64 when they see this game's gameplay?
but... how Maru can destroy a little clone in one Shoot?
And how did that blast he shot out of his eye do so less damage?
I had them. I chose not to use them. My teams was OP as it was, so no biggie. I used the characters I liked best from each side.
How did you get two rings ? You have one on Kharg anddd one on darc
New Game + bonus. Darc starts with one, and Kharg can earn the second the normal way
@@HikariKirameku soo you used new game plus stuff to show us how to beat the game? How am I supposed to do that the first game😂 bro come on
I just need to know when you get inside the castle, can you still level up if your dudes aren't strong enough to beat this guy or should I do that all before entering?
I'm on the green floor of the Flying castle right now.
it took me hours to beat the final boss. this dude is hard to beat.
DA F***??????? i cant even finish this battle........... where do you get the talismin and charms???? Lucky
You can be anywere except the middle right ?
You also don't want to be in melee range unless you can dish out more damage than his health absorbing attack does. It's the main reason the fight can take so long at lower levels.
@@HikariKirameku you actually dont want to do that either because getting hit restores his shield. it doesnt come back unless he hits his eye beam attack
@@QuesonThe2nd His shield comes back regardless
It would be nice if it did. I finally own a PS3, so if my PS2 ever died, I could buy a digital version at least. Plus, there are so many people who missed the good PS2 gen RPGs...
hardest boss in gaming
Quite literally the worst boos Ive ever faceed in any game ever, RPG, turn based, or neither. I almost snapped my controller in half, when i was done, I literally took the disc out of the machine and threw it across my room. 0/10 would not play again.
Took me 45 minutes to beat him the first time I ever played this game, cause I was woefully underleveled and unprepared, so it gives me great joy to know how to ROFLstomp him now.
Allen Blaise it has and always has taken me 30-60 minutes. It’s annoying yet it’s very satisfying when I beat it
man i suck at this battle. i've had this game for 3 years and HAVEN'T BEATEN IT CAN SOMEONE HELP!?
@DeathEndrance You don't see Darc, or even hear anyone mention him by name, and he's apparently fallen off the planet. Paulette gets a letter from Kharg, and it has two pictures of him. That's it. The game sucks so hard, is so poorly written, and contradicts Twilight of the Spirits so much that I don't consider it canon.
uuuuuuuufffffffffffffff, wen he uses his dark cannon,
GAME OVER!!!!!!!!!
but to you only quit 1 and 70 of hp.
Also, spirit stone Cheats on darc and kharg >.>
Tisk tisk
you pretty much get everything in tournaments
so I'm guessing doing the arenas is recommended
It's very time-consuming, but yes, by the time you're done, you'll have snagged some nifty items, extra characters, and can breeze through the rest of the game.
+HikariKirameku can I do them at any time?
You have to finish before the end of Kharg's ch. 6, otherwise some get completely cut off. I do Darc's team's during his Ch. 5, and Kharg's team's during Ch. 6.
And besides the arena the only side quests are the tablet and dictionary fetch quests right?
Yep!
I guess my guys are way too low for this I think the highest is dark he's 35 the rest are just like 30 and 27. 😁
Nah, you can pull it off at those levels. It's just harder. My characters are overleveled for this.
Just beat this boss for the first time
Nice. Glad people are still playing this game. ^-^
LOL, no luck involved, really. Speed buffs are your friend.
dude if u woulda used the robot guy and choco u woulda ended alot sooner..u get from the arena if any1 didnt know how to get them
Whenever i get that close to him and his darkness barrier is down he pwns all my guys.
To have his darkness down for 2 turns and then have him just spawn an eyeball is pure bullshit >.>
Pardon my french ( FUCK YOUR LUCK)
i hated this thing it had around 11 hp left and even though kharg cammila and darcALL had that fire tension thing and where still next to that thing they didnt kill him and then criticle hit on everyone minus camilla who didnt die she did 10 damage and then he killed her FUCK HIM and i was lvl 34 at kharg he was the strongest i was REAALLLY under lvled
i hated this boss annoying
