thanks for doing this! I swear the algorithm hates you or something because I think this channel should be huge. Always appreciate your content. I still don't use any pedals, but I've been getting curious about compressors.
Thanks Steve, really appreciate the support! I'll just keep trying to put out interesting, quiality content and leave the gimmicks up to the other bass channels ;)
Bit more info: MXR also has a step-up voltage converter. Although mxr marketed it as "tuned better for bass response" the same pedal was released as "studio compressor" wih zero changes (so much for integrity). MXR is based off the 1176 which has terribly short attack (what you probably felt as strugle) that is in microseconds and does not go over milisecond (where most other comps do, and Cali has this, erm, improved). PS: it is more of a limiting amplifier than a compressor
Thanks for your comments! They’re really useful as it’s not always easy to hear the subtle differences between the pedals on TH-cam, even through good headphones. About the EBS: I heard it was a bit noisier than higher end pedals. Can you or anyone confirm?
Hey Joe glad you found the video useful! I've tried all 3 versions of the EBS multicomp and the only one I found noisey was the very first edition, it's not true bypass either. The black label and studio edition are both very useable.
just an fyi…check out the Maxon CP-9 Pro Plus compressor/Limiter pedal,it’s basically a DBX 160 in a pedal (,it’s a little noisy at high outputs),as most are,but it’s such a great pedal $269.00 U.S….
excellent and honest review, I especially resonate w your statement on the EBS about compressors and they should add to your live sound, not take anything away. For instance I own the Boss bass limiter 2 which I prefer over my mxr compressor. Adds to my tone, you can add girth and sheen, easy to use where I feel the mxr would be better for the studio. Using my Billy Sheehan Ebs pedal just for clean boost and compression for now which is doing just fine.
Thanks for your honest coments, a lot of musicians appreciate this comparisions, please ,what's the difference between using the same comp. Deppending of the type of pickups, specialy between a Jazz b. And a P.bass?
How is the Noise-floor on the EBS Unit? I am leaning-that way in my search for a Bass compressor. I also like the Becos Mini & The Diamond Bass Compressor with passive-pickups. Great information presented here. oNe LovE from NYC
I use: 4:1 Ratio, Attck at 2 o'clock, release 9 o'clock, mix 9 oclock, and set your input and output according to your bass and playing style, Thanks for watching!
Compressore using the tube to work out the compression amount is already a power hog. Bringig the voltage down to 9V would raise the current required. Which would, most probably, prevent you from running it off your pedalboard daisy chain.
Because the copyright of this video is yours, I have to go through your permission to download your video and then transfer it to the Chinese video website.
Sadly, there are no affordable bass compressor pedals that are any good. I've tried them all and they all suck. You get what you pay for in this specific area.
I guess it depends on what you would class as affordable. I definitely think the EBS does a good job as does the TC Spectracomp and these pedals are arguably very affordable.
@@Basslessonsmelbourne ah! Greenock myself! Must be that Australian accent creeping in! 😁 I'm not going to lie, it's fucking freezing the now, you luck sod!

EBS for the win!! I've used mine for YEARS and it's permanently on:)

Tomislav Simić wow thanks for the info, explains a lot about why I felt the way I did with the Mxr!
Sold me on the empress😎 Have you tested the newer smaller one from Empress?
Yes I have, it's killer but for what you can buy the Mk1 for secondhand I was happy.

Good to know! Thanks. 🙂
Super helpful thanks!
also, with the cali 76. the high pass filter might be nice for upright bass.
True!
Cali 76 is Noisy though.

What about Boss bass compressor?
Much love from the US

Hey Michael, I’d say the becos and diamond are a step up from the ebs, the becos especially is very quiet.
@@Basslessonsmelbourne Thanks for your input. Really appreciate it. I like the Fatness of the EBS - is it a little Noisy?
@@michael_caz_nyc The EBS is certainly fat and doesn't get too noise unless you are cranking the controls pretty far. Thanks!
@@Basslessonsmelbourne That Becos mini-pro is unreal though??? I've narrowed it down to those 2 leaning towards the Becos.
@@michael_caz_nyc well if it's between those two I'd say the Becos is the better compressor pedal, however it is probably a bit more expensive.
Nice video. What set up you use in the Empress get a nice fat tone?

Thoughts on the Bogner Lyndhurst Compressor Pedal for Bass?
No idea sorry!
Compressore using the tube to work out the compression amount is already a power hog. Bringig the voltage down to 9V would raise the current required. Which would, most probably, prevent you from running it off your pedalboard daisy chain.
Twohunner quid for a budget pedal, where in Scotland you fae? Good vid though.
What pedal do you use on your intro video song ?
Hi, I didn't use any pedals on the intro song, all the compression was done in the mixing process. Thanks for watching!
You have not reviewed actually the best out there, Boss BC 1X
Whatever works for you!
Great video, there's a weird buzz between 17:20 & 17:30 though
Yeah sorry about that, I tried to fix it but the Gremlins were too strong! Thanks for watching that far tho :)
Sorry, but Can I carry your video to the Chinese Video Website? Im a Chinese Bass Player

So does the new mini bass compressor by MXR, SP comp by xotic, and Seymour Duncan studio compressor. All including parallel compression.
You don't sound your from Melbourne 😜
Nope, originally from Scotland :)
