It’s more likely that the Las Vegas metropolitan region will add 5 million more residents in the next 40 years before a brand new city pops up. The biggest hurdle is the first phase. Getting setup JUST to setup a city in an inhospitable region can definitely break this project. Dubai has one of the deepest wallets in the world and they can’t even get half their projects done (which are all past their deadline). And places within the USA take twice as much money to build half at much proposed and at 3x the projected length of time (looking at you NY and LA). The other issue is that major city-regions will likely add 5 million people each over the next 40 years. In 2060, Telosa will seem like a town.

@@fileminokilicho3159 I am not certain they should. People building and running these new cities want to impose some drastic new rules on people living in these cities that are very un-American.
The problem is fresh water. You need the natural grasslands, trees, and bushes of the area to replinish natural aquifers. There's a park in Texas that had been farm land and/or ranch land that the owner decided to change back into the natural land that was initially there before people ruined it. He planted the type of plants that had been removed by people and found out a few decades later that there was actually some natural aquifers that had dried up because the farming had been plants with roots that didn't hydrate the aquifer like the natural grasses, trees, and bushes of the land did. He was pleasantly surprised that with the results. Building these cities, humans need to take this into consideration. Water is our most precious resource. Fresh water.
The idea is to build it far from water, or anything else humans need, so inhabitants are forced to comply with whatever the demands would be. Its begins in luxury, but later becomes a slum, then a prison.
It's naive to think everyone wants to live in a small apartment stacked on top of each other. People with means will always want more space and have something different.
@@b3arwithm3 That your complaint is irrelevant. Cities are developed for a large population to live in a dense area, the people that don’t want that can live in rural or suburban areas. There was zero need for you to say anything at all.

5:15 Having wind turbines inside the city is a really bad idea. They're noisy as heck and they have an inconvenient habit of killing birds, which are gonna fall onto the streets and houses below.
Yes, because despite the fact that throughout human history we built cities near bodies of water, let’s instead fit up to five million people in a drought stricken area miles from any body of water. There are pre-existing cities to invest in…..
You know what would ACTUALLY be cool? Is if these bizzarionnaires would just invest heavily in an area like Detroit, save the most prominent historical buildings and integrate them into a sustainable and ETHICAL community based city. The biggest issue (other than the obvious COMPLETE illogical ideology) with ALL of these utopia cities, is that everyone is still basing the entire strategy on a financial metric.
What do you mean save only historical buildings? as a resident of michigan a modern building like the ren cen is more important culturally and objectively than things like the old concert halls and mansions, By denying the preservation of all our modern buildings you deny the preservation of the entire range of archtecture from the 50s to now, Almost all of it. destroying all buildings considered modern is just as big of a mistake in cultural preservation as the 60s were in urban renewal, even worse because theres still historical buildings left, Millenials need to consider more about a city than just the buildings that look old, especially by people that don't live there, also destruction of the suburbs would trigger incredible backlash, even if its not planned well at all its still part of communities and area history, 70s were 50 years ago, thats history.
Great video! One major constraint on an infrastructure project this large will be access to raw materials, e.g. steel and aluminium (or "aluminum"!) for construction and engineering, or copper for electricity generation and connectivity. And that’s not to mention the amount of materials already in short supply that you would need to build solar and wind power facilities, such as rare earths and nickel. Even if the US brings some refining/smelting capacity back onshore (most of these value chains are currently dominated by China), a project the size of Telosa could push up prices of the raw inputs, e.g. iron ore for steelmaking - which obviously raises new concerns about funding.
@DownRange71 they don’t spend alot of money just to kill other humans, its also to show dominance and power. This world is like a jungle, the stronger you are the more dominance you have
I’m think we should move towns and cities and combine them into bigger cities and towns, while massively creating new infrastructure, public work jobs, roads, highways, also restructuring cities and towns adding more biking trails, walkways, bus lines, and more and creating less highways in cities, also creating new architecture jobs, plumbing jobs, construction jobs, manufacturing jobs, and much more. And we should start heading for Fusion Power Technology, Wind Turbine, and Solar Energy Technology as the new energy efficiency instead of nuclear and current energy sources
So, an investor buys a bit of land and builds on it (According to what specifications?) then sells it to....what, me? And then that investors profits will go to building more of the city because...what? What if the investor takes their money and leaves? And where does the average citizen come in?
If the investor takes their money they probably will be sued because they would have had to sign a contract. Right? And average citizens move in when homes are built..

I think it's an exciting idea. But, first, they need to look are areas that are similar to the San Diego or even LA temperatures where it doesn't get to cold or to hot. This will save a ton on utility experiences, plus give the residents actual time throughout the year to actually enjoy the outdoors. Second, they'll have to regulate and screen incoming residents and weed out people with a criminal history and people who are homeless because of just laziness and unwillingness to participate. Finally, they need to have some kind of tests to evaluate and eliminate any anarchist types whom are never happy and want to create chaos wherever they go. If they do these things then they may get near to a sudo utopia.
Are you kidding me? Do you think they care about the comfort of the slaves that will live here or the criminals that will take over? They are touting "equity", which means EVERYONE, thug or not. If they don't allow criminals, they will be "racist" or some kind of "ist"! You will be forced to live with murderers, rapists, pedophiles, etc. The bad apples will poison the rest. Good luck living in that society where you won't be able to leave, either!
This maybe a concept at first, but it got me captivated because I believe it had very well verbalized the perfect "thought-foundation" or foundation of what should be the perfect approach in cities and the grander scale of it.
This is an unfortunate presentation. What sets this city apart? "Solar on the roofs and a couple tower farms." There isn't a major difference from existing cities to this except that they have a large-scale plan before construction begins. You want to build in a desert? Hmm. No ocean nearby for a desalination plant so how are you getting your water source? Say hello to another San Joaquin Valley situation. You need to create a fundamental change in how a city operates or find effective sustainability. EVs are NOT sustainable and leave a greater carbon footprint than a Chevy Suburban. And how are you going to develop a couple of square miles of city and all the required infrastructure by 2030 when you don't even have a plot, let alone detailed plans of each building to be built? For something of this magnitude to be built that quickly you need material contracts already hashed out, trade partners under contract, and maybe some money to pay for it all. Can billionaires please stop suggesting half-baked ideas just because they are trying to leave a legacy?
What do you think? Will Telosa become a reality? 🤔

With climate change, those cities are going to fry before they reach any large population.
This is clearly Utopia, that will never be finished
Not even getting started.
Ah, lets build ANOTHER city in the middle of a desert, in a drought stricken area, near nothing important.
Well, Telosa will be important by itself. But still, it will be Near Las Vegas, not so far away from LA or SF. Even if it’s constructed in Texas, it could be near to the important city’s there. M

Just one question - water? Large western desert cities such as Phoenix and Las Vegas are already struggling with the problem of how to supply their rapidly growing populations with water. Is Telosa going to magically make water appear to support it's people? If not, where is it going to come from?

I believe it when I see it. Most planned citied have proven too expensive for the average earner, since the high construction costs usually translate to high rents. It also really depends on what the developers consider „affordable“. Curious to see how this will turn out.
Not likely for everyday people. Studio apartments are going for $2000 a month. How is anyone supposed to be able to afford to live in a place like this? You would probably have to pay a few million for a basic unit suitable for one person.

I agree especially with the Midwest. I was just thinking that before I came across ur comment. Even tho we get winters in the Midwest imagine a city built like that near one of the Great Lakes especially Lake Michigan.
Finding somewhere near a source of water with plentiful rainfall would be ideal. But land is the most expensive part of any construction job, and no place beats the desert in cheap land.

Marc Lore "since exploiting all my Wal-Mart workers, I plan to make an entire equitable city"

Too many unsavoury characters in Detroit
@@c.dsupreme6120 they call that illogical yet propose to demolish all of detroits history after 1950
Nice and informative video.
Interesting point, wonder if we'll ever see steel plants come back to life in America.

The average citizen will obviously need to have money, at least some money, so you can buy land, or at least some minimum space.
My first thought. The city owns the land and won't sell it? But when the value goes up that value will somehow generate money without selling it?

Have any of these future cities ever actually been a success?

That leads to bias. But it would set a precedence for a progressive city.

tarded
"The Line" sounds like a dystopia
Oh so the environment will magically just change.
