    Only this person actually watching, all other people sitting, chatting, taking no notice until it starts making a noise. THEN they all get up and start filming. Too funny.

    To be honest, if they were serious about the wall they would have been working 24/7 with more bulldozers and making it significantly thicker and higher. If a goal was to just slow it for a few days they succeeded.

      I think this was just someone making his own record in visiting the eruption site. Right time and right place he filmed this. He shared with others, better than seeing nothing don't understand why criticism exists. And the title made it clear : Natthaga valley where Icelanders building walls hope to stop/divert the lava elsewhere to protect the road and fiber optic underneath.

    This wall was merely a joke, given the assumption that the eruption would continue with similar intencity for some while. Another solution could have been to lead the lava flow in a more westerly direction, where there is quite a big depression in the terrain which lava could fill into. But that has not been done. And the lava flow is a better tourist attraction the more freely it is allowed to run.

    • @penihavir1777
      @penihavir1777 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The walls are experiments to determine:
      How long can they delay the advance of the lava flow with a 4 meter wall and an 8 meter wall.
      How quickly can they build a 4 meter vs. an 8 meter wall.
      Whether they can protect buried cables from the heat of the lava.
      There is critical infrastructure (electric & communications cables, roads) further down the valley, and they need to know how much time they can buy for people to safely retreat from advancing lava, etc.

    • @amyzander3541
      @amyzander3541 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@penihavir1777 lol the fact they have not re-routed or made these cables redundant already shows a gross lack of foresight. It might cost a few hundred thousand but what is that to not disrupt hundreds of thousands of customers for an OBVIOUS event that is inevitable at this point in time?

    • @jima28080
      @jima28080 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@amyzander3541 Rerouting these cables is no easy task in Iceland due to the topography. Same with the road. You have the ocean on one side and mountains with an active volcano on the other.
