With the news that came out a year or so ago, of Marvel and D.C. telling many of the great artists of the past their art isn't wanted anymore (when they asked for work) to see a 60+ year old artist drawing like this is impressive... That cover instantly becomes a film, and at an angle I can't remember ever seeing. Wolverine going down a diaginal mountain fighting whatever/whoever he is fighting as the camera slides down and or up with trees in the foreground...
I never like the putting down or talking badly about the legends of the past, regardless of what kind of output they’re capable of now. These people paved the way for our industry and they deserve respect. That said, it’s INCREDIBLE to see what Capullo is capable of at this stage. He’s as good as anyone working right now imo. He deserves his flowers.
I have a question do you have a link to your Discord? Because I was talking about how much I like Captain Marvel & Guardians of the Galaxy movies & wanting to read some comics I enjoyed the into the comics if they
My issues with this book are exactly what y'all pointed out around the 10min mark. The month to month thing isn't even noticeable in the book until it's outright said, Hickman's speed running through planting seeds for various things that have (to me) no weight (looking at this universe as its own thing and removed from my own knowledge of the 616 stuff it's playing on) because we're getting snapshots of chunks of time, and (with the knowledge that Hickman's pulling heavily from pre-existing lore) I've been waiting for the shoe to drop and to watch Pete's world come crashing down because it just feels like this cloud that's been looming since issue 1. I can't buy that this huge lifestyle change isn't affecting Pete's family at all, because 1) there were heavy teases of a rift between him and his son (who will likely get the "Venom" suit & rage out against his dad) and 2) we haven't seen enough interactions with the family to support that they're adjusting well to this change. Sure we saw the excitement of the daughter and the acceptance from MJ & his son *at the start*, but it's been what 9 months their time now? He gave Pete a family: let's see them actually interact more. That, to me, would be more engaging than seeing this buildup to Harry & Pete's falling out (which, why should I care when they just became friends out of circumstance? We haven't lived in their dynamic enough for me to buy even the Christmas exchange between them here). I would be all in on this new Ultimate Spidey book if it truly felt like Hickman was building toward something different with everything he put on the table at the start of this run, but so far it's just felt like a slow grind toward shades of the same ol' same ol'.
Sorry for sounding overly negative, I just really think there's great potential that's being, not squandered, but mismanaged. Given Hickman's track record I'm willing to give him a chance, but I can't shake this feeling that once the big moment hits, it's gunna hit a little flat. At least for me. I love the art on the book though
You're good man. Expressing your negative feelings about a book is not wrong at all, thanks for sharing your feelings. I agree with pretty much everything you said. The quality of the work is so high that while it does bother me I'm still on the hook. I don't know how long I'll feel that way but I'm still in.
