    Thank you for this video! I’ve now subscribed to your channel. After watching this video, I’ve now bought myself three Record 52 1/2 vices in an auction and plan to refurbish them - thank you for the inspiration, they look fantastic!
    I’ve just moved house and now have a garage which I plan to slowly convert into a woodworking workshop, and look forward to watching more of your videos as inspiration!

      Thanks so much for the feedback. Those vices were really satisfying to refurb and I think they look fantastic. Aside from looks, they work perfectly, having used it now for a few months there hasn’t been one “I wish it was a bit more etc…” moment. Enjoy refurbishing and check out the vice extension video. A simple but useful upgrade and coupled with a set of shims to prevent racking, makes it versatile addition.

    Thanks for your video. I too like the colours you chose. I particularly like the cream - outstanding.
    Well done.

    I really like that colour scheme, but I think it’s better suited to your sweatshirt.
    I also restored two Record woodworking vices a while ago, and I also didn’t paint them blue: I associate that colour with cheap tools, never liked it. So I went for black, but I left the bare metal exposed on some of the raised bits, and I sanded some paint off the markings (Record logo, model number). Really happy with it, looks neither brand new nor “fake old”, even though it is kind of fake.
    My problem with painting the markings is that they were never supposed to be painted in a contrasting colour, and while that alone wouldn’t be enough reason for me not to do it, it also inevitably comes out wonky and smudgy, because the cast letters and numbers are not neat and sharp. Looks great on pictures and video, but as you get closer… I don’t know.
    Having said that, it’s nice to see another Record vice liberated from that blue paint. Do a bench grinder next, they’re cheap, and you seem to need one ;-)

      Just been given a bench grinder in need of some TLC. It’ll definitely be getting a coat of paint.

    Nice job. Can you measure the diameters of the guides and bench screw and write as an answer?

    • @CaptainofmyShed
      @CaptainofmyShed  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, the guides are 25mm. The bench screw is covered by a steel cover along its length so difficult to measure but I believe about 23mm and the width of the cover is 26mm.
