It’s the wrong blue, historically speaking. I personally don’t care if it’s historically accurate, and I also think Record should have never painted their stuff blue in the first place, anyway. But if you like blue, that’s a nice blue. Paint it blue if you must. Great job altogether.
a real craftsman at work thank you. This TH-cam has helped me with a RECORD 53E I have had 40 years in storage, just installed this week but not working correctly. I appreciate your help
Hi. They turn up on eBay every now and then, or you could try here: www.knighton-tools.co.uk/acatalog/Record_vice_spares.html They call it a trigger spring.
Beautiful job - If cold cast iron can actually be that way. Ha, ha. Lovely finish by taking it back to approximately the "original" colour. Once again, Well done!
Thank you for the great restoration, and not bodoing the crap out of it. I love the metal and blue hammerite look. Very industrial and retro, like a nice cafe racer.
I’m so glad I found this as I just got one of the 52’s for a £5 but needs this treatment , I wanted to know how to straitened the threaded screw shaft? It has a slight bow and I am a bit scared to start hitting or yanking on it invade if snaps, any ideas?
I did some research and this vise is actually pretty valuable, I saw a rusty one like this for like three grand, you no joke probably have a 5k vise now.
Very nice job. Love the idea of making foam bungs to mask holes. Just for your information: Paragon paints (York) make a record vice blue (roundel blue) and its similarly priced to Hammerite.
Anything to help fill the gaps and not use a ton of tape haha. I tried getting some paint but it was tripple the price and I thought id give it a modern look with the hammerite
Great video! Love the colour! Restoring an old vise right now. Very similar design. Do you recall where you purchased the new quick release spring & nut? I'm having a hard time locating one. Thanks!
Any chance you could let me know what the loose juice is and the degreaser. I have a 52 in bits right now and its manky old grease on it as thick as tar
Lovely vice, but a bit later than 1918, most likely the late 1920s and well into the 1930s, definitely a prewar example. Great to see it given a total makeover and a new lease of life, nice one! 👍
Ooooooooh Ahhhhhhhh Mmmmmmmm great job. love the blue 👍 I've got a Record # 53, quick release binds a bit but i dont use it much. item 732 of things i'll get around to one day 😁
Great job, looks really good! I’m about to restore a record 52 1/2 and I was a bit concerned about lead paint? Do you think the original paint was lead based? Did you take any precautions for this?
I have just finished restoration on my No 52 it still has the original blue colour, I just wanted mine to work as I will be using it in my business. But I think it's up to the owner how they finish it.
1. How come you didn't use a torch to heat up the bolt to loosen it? (Asking to learn, not bc I'm one of those twats telling you what to do as if they know better) 2. Please get Rico or the Mrs. to "kill you off" since you die in every film 😋 Stay awesome Onur, love your videos!
Yep...we like that.. Have you thought about getting a large tub and filling it with red diesel... Then everytime you get something coming in that's locked up...you just launch it into that tub of red for a week...
@@DiesInEveryFilm You don't need a great big tub... Just something like an oil drum cut down a bit....save the top you cut off...there... thats your lid... You could keep it outside...with the lid on and a bit of plastic sheet over it... Just keep adding a bit of red as your money allows... One of the best stuff is diesel for freeing stuff off... Great work mate! Looks brand new
Thank you mate really appreciate you taking time to watch
Brilliant work & loved the humour! Just got an ancient rusty vice. Thanks to your video, I’m going to try & restore now. Hope it works out!
Thanks so much I really appreciate it and so glad you are going to give a vice new life.
Loved this restoration. Great color choice & the Vice is functional & beautiful = Very nice
Thanks very much, still use this thing now and it’s a great vice
Something about restoration videos makes my brain happy. Love the work, look forward to the next one!
Thank you mate glad you liked it hopefully have another restoration up soon.
This episode brought to you by Loose Juice, World Peace, and Nice Hair!
Great job, that was in really bad shape, glad you brought it back to life.
Thanks mate yeh it was bad and a lot rust everywhere
Nice blue. Very good restoration 👍👍👍
Thank you and thank you for watching
Does anyone know what the new spring for the quick release is called? Can't seem to find online however I search for it.
They are nightmare to find tbh mate like rocking horse poo
That's a shame. Someone should make them because this seems to be the only part that's likely to be knackered.

Over the Top! And You did it without a Superhero guest appearance! Bravo! ...Newk from Kentucky USA

Nice job man and perfect color. Liked how you did it all old school. Rare piece ready for another hundred years use.
Thanks very much mate yeh i was really happy with the colour on it and it will be getting mounted when i get in the new place.
Nice job Onur. Bit of a labour of love by the looks! Chris Nash.
Thanks mate. Wanted one for ages and glad its an old one I could make my own
Beautiful restoration job. Very well done Sir! Greetings from Southport.

That’s really smart, looks like new. It’s great seeing these knackered tools brought back to life, great job Onur. 👍🏻

Id possibly try heating it up and bending it straight but you would have to be gentle and do it slowly
@@DiesInEveryFilm thanks pal, keep up the great work 🤘🏻
Thanks for showing the right way to blue metal parts. Almost nobody does the rinse + oil steps. (Or at least they don't show them...)
No problem at all mate
Looks great buddy. Always interesting to see different approaches to vice restorations.
Ah thank you mate. Glad you enjoyed it
1:39 What's the name of this tool, please?
Impact driver
Thank you
No problem
Great job, where did you get the spring for the quick release ? thanks
Thanks, i had a friend order it
What thread standard did this vise have, was it british, metric, SAE?
No idea mate as its not a normal thread its got some angle to it for the quick release
@@DiesInEveryFilm sorry for the confusion, I saw you bought some new fasteners for it. I was wondering what thread they were
I didn’t buy the fasteners mate I found them in my screw drawer so no clue haha only luck that i found the ones i used.
Whereabouts did ya get that spring from?
Nice restoration mate 👍
Thanks very much mate
Dang that thing was a mess. I was sighing with you the whole way through. lol. Love the color!!!
Yeh it sure was and a tough restoration
@@DiesInEveryFilm Did a great job though. You persevered!!!!

Great Bro... Looks Amazing. Good Work
Great stuff thanks so much
Lovey job! My Record 52 is a 1930's model but it has Made in England cast in the bottom edge under the handle.
Got to love the old ones they have so much more character
Great work man
What did you use to protect the bare metal?
Thanks mate. What I will do is use a wax coating protection it just hasn’t arrived yet

English vice's are the best. I've still never seen an American vice with a quick release! Brilliant job!!! That thing was a mess.
Yeh these old beasts are brilliant thanks mate
Now you need to build a table to put that in. Great restoration.
Table already built mate just need to fit it
Beautiful vice, scary tattoos! Thanks.
Thanks. Although id definitely be worried if i was a grown man scared of skin pictures.

Yeesh. That was super rusted and dirty beyond belief. Great job in restoring it.
Yeh it sure was it definitely got mistreated before i got it
Hi I have just refurbished my record 52. 1/2 vice which looks identical to yours , how did you know it was a 1918 model ?
Keep up the good work
I did a load of research online and asked in forums. There’s slight differences in the design and mouldings as the years go on.
Wow, excelente trabajo, muy bonita prensa.

Great job, looks really good! I’m about to restore a record 52 1/2 and I was a bit concerned about lead paint? Do you think the original paint was lead based? Did you take any precautions for this?
Well i tested this and it wasn’t lead paint but i wore a mask while doing anything to remove the paint anyway.
DiesInEveryFilm Customs how did you test it? That seems like a good idea
You can get pens. Search lead paint test pen. Think i got mine from amazon mate
What company impact driver bits do you use since a lot of them don't hold up?
It’s not the drivers it’s more the rusted stuff
@@DiesInEveryFilm oh cause one guy told me you need softer bits for the impact driver
