I would also recommend changing the locks for newly purchased homes, too. The realtors and everyone they worked with could have copied the keys. One company I used to work with required the realtors to take a photograph of the keys as confirmation of something; It's possible to recreate keys from photographs.

Being someone that worked for a commercial door company. You should also put longer srew's in your hinges and lock, so you screw into a beam not just the frame. Normal screws used for that are not really long. So they will tear out easily.
If you live in an apartment sometimes it's not as simple as changing the locks. Most key makers won't make copies of actual apartment keys too. I had trouble having a copy made of an apartment I lived in back in '07-'08.
When I sleep, I have 2 pillows. One pillow is the one I sleep on every night, and the other has sharp needles stitched to it at the bottom and a gun under it so if someone breaks in, I use the gun for attack and the pillow as a shield. I also have a 4-5 feet Katana that’s reachable from my bed.
