watched this series 4 times and all the emotional scenes hit the exact same way as the first. Every part just hits right at the correct point, flawlessly executed to get the tears rolling.
Bradley’s first name is King, his full name is King Bradley and he’s the Fuhrer president of Amestris as officially stated in the FMA universe.
I've seen the anime multiple times and I didn't know his first name was King. Reminds me of Mister Torgue from Borderlands.

@Whyte Chocolate At one point in the anime, when Ed is explaining the government of Ametris, I think he says "The current Fuhrer, King Bradley..."
A couple things, it's not that Nina was inside Envy, just that Ed heard a child's voice saying brother, and it triggered a traumatic memory; Ed and Al haven't forgotten Nina, they always keep her memory with them
Second, I may be wrong, but I believe when Envy says "Is that pity", he also calls it a worthless emotion in the japanese version. That is a subtle but important detail to keep in mind for much later
Yeah that ending scene where Ed breaks back in hits hard, I love when anime’s use their credits songs like in this show
Same. It's such a simple touch but it gives me chills when they start playing the ending songs a little early.
it's the idea of "this is the end of the episode, we know Al's in there now for real and we know he can't get out without his soul coming for him." but then Ed does as he always does and just busts through to deft fate, just to tell his little brother "I will not leave you here, I'll be back"

16:54 This is of the best scenes in the show, and the moment that ultimately defines Ed's character. He will not give up or abandon the people he loves, even with unstoppable force of Truth dragging him away. And he _will_ find a way to win.

Even if he paid enough to pull Al's body out, it wouldn't have worked because Al's soul wasn't there. If he did pull it out, I think it would have probably just been a dead body. I think it would have killed Al's soul too if his body died.
18:05 That's actually the Truth that Ed is talking to through Al's body. Remember how when Ed lost his leg, it became Truth's leg? Same thing happened with Al's whole body. If you notice, when Ed first sees Al's body, it's sitting just like the Truth does in front of the portal.
So a few things(no spoilers)
1. The price of human transmutation is a human soul. So for Ed to transmute Ling, Envy, and himself, he had to use 3 souls of Xerxes as payment. This is why he said "Thank you" in that scene. He was thanking those who had to pay the price for them.
2. Envy is self-conscious of his real form because he is the embodiment of the sin of envy. All of the sins are basically the incarnations of each sin. However, some of their sins are interpreted differently then you might expect. And others seemingly contradict their sins.
- Envy is jealous and wants what other's have. This is why he can turn into other people. However, through most of the show, Envy often talks down to humans as if he is better than them.
- Greed wants everything that he doesn't have. And yet, he didn't go around taking everything in sight. Because his desires are more subjective to what he cares about the most. If he likes money the most, he will be very greedy for money. In this case, what he liked most is living, so he wanted immortality above all things.
- Gluttony obviously wants to eat and has a particular taste for humans, and yet for some reason, he always asks permission to do so rather than submitting to his desire to consume. He is always hungry as his stomach is an endless void.
- Lust is probably the most different to what we typically expect, as she is almost never very sexual other than the way she dresses and when she seduces Jean Havoc. Many fans theorize that this is because the show interprets her sin as Bloodlust, which would fall more in line with how she acts.
I won't go into Wrath, Pride or Sloth as there are still quite a bit more to learn about them, but I will point out this:
Despite being the Sin of Wrath, Bradley tends to be fairly calm almost always. I'm not saying that means anything super significant, but it's interesting, no?
Might be minorly spoilery (Envy hasn't been explored as a character yet in show). As far as Wrath goes even at this point we can at least say that he's calm... until he unleashes his fury.
Maybe Lust is just a sadomasochist and gets her pleasure from being evil instead of physical means
Isn't the soul being consumed for the human transmutation the one thanking Ed and not the contrary ? It could very well be the one who asked Ed to kill him previously, as he seemed at peace when he was consumed.

This anime is a true masterpiece.. I've watched it several times and following you discovering it has been a journey on itself. The depth of its themes and the philosophy behind, the three dimensional characters, the absolutely amazing antagonists, all this together makes this one of the best stories I've ever seen.
You will discover the "Truth" of this story every episodes It will give you all answers for every questions you may have until the end. Keep up the good work.
I hate Envy more than any of the other sins, but his line of "Do you hesitate to through a log onto the fire because you pity the tree it came from?"
That line really hits me hard.
There’s Princess Mei Chang and then there is her panda Xiao-Mei. In Chinese, Xiao Mei means little sister and can also mean Little Mei.
It was stated earlier in the show that the mind connects the body and soul, and so that’s why I think that both can have consciousness while apart.
Mei also commonly means beauty/beautiful as a name although not always, asian language names are weird...
Al could get his body back with a Philosopher stone, but ed and al promised to never use another human life to get their bodys back.

Think of a Philosopher's Stone as a battery for life energy. If you perform Human Transmutation using it, you're going to be using up a big chunk of the energy stored in the stone, effectively killing at least one (if not more) of the people used to make it by using up all of their soul/life energy. And you know how Ed is about killing. He could barely bring himself to do it with the Soul(s) that Envy offered up willingly in order to save 3 lives in exchange. Do you really think he'd effectively kill someone else - even someone who is now just energy trapped in a Stone - just to get Al's body back?

Ed coming back out of the portal got me too I’d read this somewhere but I forget where- The part where Ed comes back out to tell that he’ll be back was not present in the manga but was added by the creators of the show. The writer of the manga loved the addition because it made a lot of sense with Ed’s character.
One of the marks of a fantastic writer is the ability to make a truely sympathetic villians. It's easy to make someone an irredeemable piece of shit like Envy. But making characters like Scar and Bradley, who are by no means good, but at least understandable and relatable. As someone once said, everyone is the hero of their own story, no one thinks they are the villian and I love antagonists that are written that way.
I would add that a good writer gives nuance to every character whether they be protagonist or antagonist.
On rewatching, I appreciate Bradley's character arc even more. As the youngest (& oldest looking) homunculus, he is the only one with emotional growth unlike his "siblings". Therefore, he is the only homunculus who privately accepts an outcome where they may lose against humans in the end.
This moment when Ad open the door of truth and promised to El is so intense I became every time chills

Ma'am! Your empathy for King Bradley made me realize he was a child solider in the most extreme sense!! Bradley is one of my favorite characters (top seat; him and Teacher) but you just added another layer to his character!
I like both sub and dub of FMAB; but the sub KILLED the end scene. It's the only time we hear the VA for Ed call Al by his full name.

looks like you're locked in on this one. strap in and enjoy the ride. this is an all time great for a reason. and it only gets better from here. The music is amazing in this series, both the opening and closings... and man do they set the tone.

When the music started playing, I may or may not have shed a tear
I feel like you are realy stuck on this Father drinking philosopherstones. That one time we saw him do it was more like taking the souls back from the stone witch gave Greed his power.
That "drink" was basically Greed's Stone in a liquid form. Remember Dr. Marco? "It may take many forms. It is not necessarily a stone."
He was re-absorbing the energy that he had used making Greed back into himself.

I am very close with my sister, so this show like has a special place for me. I love the love Ed and Al share.
Yes they can use a philosopher's stone to pay the toll to get Al's body back. But the boys morals and ethics prevent them from doing so. There's no way that they would use something that was created from sacrificing people, and they wouldn't make one themselves. Philosophers stones come in all levels of power based on the amount of souls, and it depends on what you use it for.
The Xingese can sense chi/ki. They can sense the life in the stone and it feels weird to them because it doesn't make sense to have so many 'people' inside 1 person (homunculus)

Ed opens the door with his right hand. That's very suggestive.
Bradley said there’s only one soul left in him, specifically all the souls killed each other until only the most wrathful one remained. That would explain why the Xingese don’t sense him as being different than humans. That would explain why he ages. That would also mean he has no accelerated healing. But, with his Ultimate Eye no one seems able to lay a hand on him so he never needs to heal.
Also, obligatory comment, the scene where Ed punches his way back through the door at the end to say he is coming back is anime only.
That scene did not happen in the manga but the manga author has stated that it is a great addition.

Particularly, I think it's a good time to watch them, they get a lot deeper into the characters and themes of the story

About how Al lives in two places at the same thime, that's a mistake from the dub, in the Spanish version is more understandable, the soul of Al is in the real world because the sacrifice of Ed's Arm, so Al has to come back to the "Truth place" and unify his soul with his body to go out of there, nothing much to say
I don't know why, but I teared up at the same time at the end. And I've watched this series SIX TIMES.
It's not hard to go back for Al's body, the problem is what to sacrifice to actually get it out. After all just Al's soul cost Ed his arm and both the brothers are, at best, reluctant to use the souls in a stone.

Such a great show. You can cry because of sadness (Nina, Hughes) or just because it’s just... just too much, too moving („you’re hands aren’t meant to kill“, or, well... Ed knocking open the door again)
Because King Bradley's philosopher stone was filled with wrathful souls they fought eachother until only one was left, as a result his philospher stone doesn't have enough souls for him to regenerate like the other homunculus do.
I didn't realize that. That's why he grows old too.
Nothing gave me more hope than seeing Ed literally punch open his gate of truth, just to tell Al he will be back for him

you should check out a couple songs that were sung by edward's voice actor vic mignogna, one is called brothers and the other is called nothing i won't give. i'm pretty sure that vic wrote them as well and hes an amazing singer. i have a feeling you'd like them.
I cried 4 times to this scene today
Just wanted to say, do you remember the first episode and the water alchemist that wanted to destroy the military and the king because of the corruption and "the truth behind the ishvalian slaughter" and everyone thought he was the baddie? After you finish the series you can rewatch it in your own time to see everything from different perspective. Have a nice day :)

Not really, since he didn't pay a price for more knowledge, the only thing he knows now that he didn't before is that Alphonse's body in there
@@Marcel-qb9ge he still passed through his portal to truth with all the knowledge, he just didn't resist this time. Also the toll before was payed by him, but this time was the stone. We don't know about his arm counting, that is why I say second or third time.

Yeah, the whole "What is a human?" question gets hairy really quickly.
A soul bounded to armor, human.
But what about someone that digitized their brain onto a computer? They can still act and think as themselves, but have no body, and can never return to flesh, and live until the computer gives out. Is that still a human?
To make it even harder, say you copied all of the files that made up that person to transfer him to a new computer. You safely establish the files over there, but then what? Do you delete his original files, or condemn that older version of him to live out the rest of his possibly eternal existence in that old computer? Once copied, they both become separate individuals, both convinced they are the real them.
Teleportation would likely work the same way. A copy of you is made at the destination, before a computer exterminates the original you, otherwise you've just sent a clone in your place, and stayed at the origin point. It's only teleportation if the original is destroyed. But both are flesh, both have lives. They are both human.
The game SOMA covers this topic really well, calling it a coin toss. Sometimes you wake up as the clone in the new destination, and sometimes you're the original, left behind to either live out your days, trapped, or be destroyed by the clone version of you, depending on how they view you. Your odds are 50/50. Will you be the magician taking the bow, or the one in the box?
as soon as you said digitalized brain I IMMEDIATELY thought about SOMA, that game is majestic and sadly very underrated, I saw a few people gameplay it but very few dove deep in the meaning of what they played and how deep and complicate "humanity" as a concept can be...

Like, when you "transfer" into the deep pressure suit, but you hear the original still talking before he shuts down, and you have to choose. Do you terminate him, or doom him to stay in that underwater base, where you took the only way out? It's so dark, I love it.
It goes back to the question of "what is human?" Are the souls in a philosopher's stone still human? There's no difference between that and the souls making up Envy's body. If they are human then, by using the philosopher's stone to get their bodies back, they would be sacrificing humans to do it. That's why Ed and Al have promised not to use one to get their bodies back. Ed didn't use Envy's for himself. He used it so he could still help Al get his body back and to stop Father to save Amestris.

I think that is Al's Truth wearing Al's body and here's why, my english is not that good but I'll try to be clear.
The Truth took more from Al so Al knows more about the truth of life, maybe even before their human transmutation. He has been always the compassive, he cares more about the others than him which maybe means that Al, maybe with no knowing, always has applied the "give more than you recieved" idea. All that sacrifice has giving him such power as his body can influence on Al's Truth in fact, I think Al never met Truth the same way that Ed did, I believe that Truth figure is the alchemist's reflection. The alchemist's mind is a filter that influence the Truth figure's behavior. Maybe that is why Al's Truth looks and behaves like a second Alphonse. Damn... I don't even know if I made me understand, sorry if I didn't hehe.

really? I never watched the MHA dub... started watching the sub when it first came out so by the time it came around to dub the VAs were all weird and strange to me... kinda like in Dragon Ball Super, all the old DBZ characters sounded stupid and wrong when I tried to watch it subbed.
@@kennethmorgan8795 MHA is pretty much the only show where I watch both, usually I pick one but both casts are awesome so I usually check out the dub sometime after the sub.
