I made a bowl based on that principle. It is really easy! I had no jig but parted the board through the center, so I had only to cut half the way each time. Playing with the grind while glueing up the bowl was real fun.
Hi Al well a New Year for us and more projects, I just got a new band saw and am assembling it now. I have enjoyed your little circle layout mine will be similar thanks for the shows keep them up.
He would be surprised alright. I do help him in all his undertakings but I don't think I would want to challenge this. I have learned a lot in the 56 yrs we've been together. I've helped him work on cars, building garages, landscaping and many other things. So I might just surprise him LOL.
Hey, Al; nice jig!! As for the problem of finding the indent undernieth, just bump the stopped blade with the piece of wood, slide it along the blade till it drops in the dent you made!
Al, I like your idea and next thing I would suggests (not my idea, can't remember where I have seen it to give the guy credit) in order to overcome the difficulty of finding the center on your blank or anything you need to cut down to a circle; you can make a runner (whatever size) on the center line that you put all your center pins (aligning with the edge of your blade) amek it stop at the 2" mark line so it will not travel to hit the balde (this is according to your design ( you mentioned that your first hole was at 2" mark form the the blade). Now, when yo u have a rough blank then you take this runner and put it anywhere that you get your desired circle on that blank. ( assuming that the blank is very big and awkward to handle. Now , you pick up the blank with that runner attached to it and slide it into the groove on the circle cutting jig. Now, you just slide it in and it will stop at that 2" stop w/o hitting the blade. that would be end of that struggle. Right now I don't have the video set up to video my turnings, so if you do this modification then post another video. Thanks
Brilliant idea Al and good tips in the video ! this is something I shall definitely make for my circle jig! Ahem... this may sound rather odd but I find it strangely satisfying cutting circles ..maybe I should get out more LOL . I shall be looking forward to the cyclone video ! Catch you later and cheers mate, Bram
I have been making some Bowls from a board and I was having issues with cutting my rings at a 45 degree angle and keeping them all centered. It didn't even occur to me to make a jig. I'm Not able to get in the shop for a while, but when I do, I'm going to make a jig and then make a video on how I make bowls using scraps of wood. I will definitely give you credit for how to make the jig. Christian Jensen Woodturning - My Way
Thank you ......I am glad you saw potential on this to help your own situation. I look forwards to seeing your video once you get to the shop.. Take care stay warm
I'm going to have to add that to mine. I cut some pretty heavy bowl blanks and the worst thing is finding the pin. Makes me cross eyed. When I cut a blank out of a slab I screw the entry cut back together on the waist and sell them at my garage sale for planters for five bucks. LOL You fill them with dirt and plant inside them. I sell out each summer. I have seen women arguing over them. lol Before I discovered this I was burning them. Most of them were Cherry and it was a shame to burn them. I don't turn bowls anymore and I have people coming back wanting planters and I don't have any so I cut out six bowl blanks and put them away and sold the cut outs. It's crazy. Cheers, Lee
That is a great Idea my friend. you might have a good thing going there. seeing I don't sell my bowls maybe I can start selling the cut offs LOL. Yeah lining it up is a pain
Hi Al, its only -22 celsius (-7.6 Farenheit) over here. My "Bookmark Box" is getting full of ideas of things to make from your videos. Can you slow down making videos until I catch up? Just Kidding and I love this Idea too. I Bookmarked this video too and added it to my "Things to make" file. Keep them comming. Hal
"left a circle...right a circle"... That jig looks ideal Mr. Furtado My old Watts of Sheffield bandsaw is like the other way round...the cutting edge is facing how you have the camera.... Strange... Is the alterations to your workshop done now...? Are you happy with it...?
Rebel Turner It's a very old machine...beautiful cast iron...early 1900s The blade edge is opposite to how most bandsaws are... I might make a table for circles like what you've done Mr. Furtado I might make it out of steel though...but similar design..
Hi Al somewhere I have seen your facebook thing to take me to be your friend but I have lost it, would you please let me have that information so that I can follow you on face book as well as youtube. thanks for being you.

Inspired jig addition, my friend. Necessity is the mother of invention.
That is so true but more than necessity there is the urge to accomplish LOL
Thank you for sharing great tips
Very nice, I will have to do that to mine as well. Looking forward to your future video's.
Stay warm.
Thanks .... I know the sled is not any different from any sled but figured the hold down would help some. Take care
Hi just learned something that hi was trying to cut circle on 45 try with no jig and did not work very good you my friend just fix my problem thanks
Simple. But amazing ideia.
Forte abraço amigo.
On thicker stock, blade position is critical when you start to rotate, otherwise you will eventually bind up.
Great idea!
I will have to make one thanks for the ideas
You're welcome my friend. I hope it serves you well.
Thanks Al great idea thanks for sharing
Thank you Jerry for your continuous support I appreciate it.......... Take care my friend
I'm going to put the tab in line with the circle centers on my build.
Good deal my friend I am glad you found it useful

Just wondering why you don't use the multi tool in your pocket to move that metal peg...seems like the perfect use for it.
