Lena Hall is a Tony Award winner and Grammy nominee, recently portraying the dual starring roles of Hedwig and Yitzhak in Hedwig and the Angry Inch in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Following her Tony-winning Broadway run, she toured North America with Josh Groban on his Stages tour. She originated the role of Nicola in the Tony-winning musical Kinky Boots, and can be seen on HBO’s Girls, Amazon Prime’s Good Girls Revolt, and heard voicing the fan-favorite role of “Countess Coloratura” on My Little Pony. In 2018, Lena will be appearing opposite Jennifer Connelly in TNT’s science fiction epic Snowpiercer.

It is hard to find a singer who can do justice to a MUSE song, specially this one because it requires long and really high notes. She reaches so naturally and gives her own tone which is marvelous. I really enjoyed this one.
Vocally, in terms of technicality she upgraded the song by using her chest voice of the highest note
She did not do the song any justice. This song is all about dynamics. She completely ignored them and full voiced the full song. You must whisper the first verse and chorus, only slightly louder in the 2nd. And then full voice the final chorus. This doesn’t sounds ruled by secrecy… ruled by loudness.

@@KevsShwaShwa yes true, but there’s other factors she’s also missing, it’s hard to replicate Matt cause he’s soo talented , there’s some things he does and you won’t even notice as well, she did it some justice at least
You're amazing. When I saw how many different artists you cover, I thought that with Muse you would just leave it at Starlight and Time is Running Out, but this song is not that popular at all outside of the Muse fanbase.

One of my favorite Muse songs, but it was clearly intended to have been sung by you. Amazing.
Very, very good cover, and clearly plenty of power behind her pipes. I think the first two choruses are way too much though. Part of why the song works so well is the subtlety of the dynamic shifts that Matt introduces. The first chorus on the album version is barely whispered, the second is only slightly more intense, and the final is belted into the heavens...she definitely gives it lots of emotion and power, but more restraint would have made the impact of the final chorus all the greater. But serious kudos that she can sing those final notes in full voice, very impressive.
The amount of emotions you release is amazing. It shows you really know the meaning of this song. Thank you for this great interpretation!

what is there to say but the title of an ABBA song "Thank you for the music" with Muse comes the ingenuity of the composition with you come the tears of deep emotion with an angelic voice and understanding of transforming notes into something else and the unfullfillable worddream of another famous song "Wish you were here"

Damn Lena's amazing, I can listen to her for hours. And I see lots of people giving shit to Justin (the pianist), gotta disagree. I think he did fine and I don't want or need anything else taking away from Lena's voice and emotion. But it doesn't matter what me or anyone else thinks cuz Lena thinks he's great since she takes him everywhere, even to her live and Broadway shows. And iirc he's her sound engineer too so somehow he can take an already incredible voice and make it even better.

So no offense here but I just had to find Muse’s Glastonbury 2004 performance of this song straight after I listened to this. This is a fine cover and all but it’s like the original performed by Muse exists in it’s own universe. Nothing compares.

What’s really difficult with this song, unfortunately not done here at all and the singer completely misses the beauty of the song, is the dynamics. The first verse and chorus is a whisper. The 2nd talking volume, and the third is how she sings the whole song. Really disappointing. Awful vocal performance it must be said.
Not a fan of chest voice for the falsetto parts. I know she’s a girl so technically falsetto is not a thing for them but still 🤷♂️
