I went on it twice on the same day. The first time my dad lost his hat on the drop. On the photo you could see his hat floating just above his head. R.I.P my dads hat
It cannot have been originally there. It must have been installed during the Cussons' "Imperial Leather" sponsorship, which sadly destroyed "Professor Burp's Bubbleworks" at Chessington. Both these rides have been retired now.
Miss this ride so much, loved it as a child and as an adult. I remember being outraged when they changed the theme from riding in a log round a Wild West saw mill to riding in a bath and those damn ducks moved in, but by then I had a kid and he loved it. Fond memories 👩👦
I love Alton Towers! It's the best theme park I've ever been to! I'm going to Alton Towers for the third time in October. I went twice in 2013, May and November. We took a three year break to allow ourselves to go to other theme parks like Chessington, Thorpe Park and Adventure Island. Early this year we decided to go back to Alton towers because we loved it so much! Me, my Dad and my brother all love theme parks and at least go once a year. I've been to one this year so far. GOSH HOW I LOVE ROLLER COASTERS
Well I’ve been on this flume a few times a year from when I was about 5-6 all the way till I was 16 and I’ve got to say the wicker man is no where near as fun or nostalgic but I guess change has to happen.
OMG! I went to Alton Towers at the weekend, and we walked past this, and it looked sooooo creepy! I know they only just shut it, but it looks like it's beef abandoned for years! So creepy!
Remember going on this with our school party early 1980's. Went on with Gordon Rowland (A tall guy) Kevin Lunny and myself. That dark drop got me, seemed to go on forever back then. The final big drop, Kevin and I decided to duck as the flume hit the bottom leaving poor Gordon to take the full might of the water. We were in school uniform and boy he was soaked right through. Being April it was cold and he was shivering sadly to the amusement of many who attended from Vale of Catmos College in good old Oakham Rutland
My best memory about the flume is when I tried to sneak on it by filling my shoes (bad I know) and I actually got on and I was so happy as a week later it was starting to get removed 😂🥺
I didn't get wet on the ride until the end and then people that don't even know you squirt water at you for one pound :/ didn't like that bit so much x
Have been on this so many times. The whole of our lower school went each year and have been there with my friends/family lots too. Whatever the weather we made a point of going on this and other water rides.
Agree. Everything was perfect in this ride, soundtrack, tunnels, drops incl dark drop and length of this ride. It was a great ride which I always enjoyed.
I wish theyd make a pathway round the parts of the flume that was abandoned, itd be so cool to see all the leftover parts , like the peice of track behind the wickerman queue
Had a bit of an unfortunate incident on this ride as a child. Whilst climbing out of the log boat at the end of the ride I somehow managed to get my foot jammed between the boat and the platform. As a result the next item on the agenda was a check over froma first aider. My family got 2 year's free entry out of this incident though.
@@TripAndCash2021 it was just legendary. Good memories. When you go onto Google maps and look at street view of Alton Towers, the images are still for the Flume which makes me smile ❤️
I know Wickerman is amazing, but I think AT made a huge mistake removing this ride, surely they could have bought more land and built wickerman somewhere else?
Actually they couldn’t just buy more land. Firstly it’s not owned by Merlin, it’s leased. Secondly there is plenty of restrictions in terms of possible expansion. Saying this I agree that the flume was a great and popular ride which is very missed.
I went on this when I was 12 with my school. I lost my group of friends but found some other friends to go on some rides on. So I was there with three boys who i was friends with (I'm a girl by the way) and we went on this one and the other water based one. It was so much fun!
ride removal is due to changing expectations, as well as age of ride. wasn't the flume 30 years old plus? there is only so much milage you can get out of a ride. Nemesis is going through a retrack to prolong its life soon.
Conor Boyle it’s the track not the water dude this flume was well old was a classic addition to the park but now wickerman stands in its place rip flume!

I agree! Hopefully it will be another flume, but a more modern one. As much as I love this one, I suppose it's time for an upgrade.
rockafiremmbb I was thinking an indoor one along the lines of Valhalla at Pleasure Beach. Easily the best water ride in the country.
+Tunaboy45 definately! Other than Duel, alton doesn't really have any decent dark rides. Charlie and The chocolate factory is just plain boring...
