Dear all, the Maestro made me acquainted with this Russian broadcast and I thought it was a pitty for it not to be available to all his fans. Therefore, I uploaded it here with his permission. He is doing well and will certainly appreciate very much all of your kind comments
One of the greatest pianists of all time. Fond of memories of studying with him my Doctorate in New York. Absolutely jaw-dropping piano playing. Very hard to see and hear this kind of playing today.
You can tell by the applause when his name was announced that the Russian audience loves Horacio Gutierrez, and with good reason, this recital followed his Silver Medal performance at the 1970 Tchaikovsky Competition when he was only 21 years old. Gutierrez's performance continues for nearly an hour. Not only is each piece so magnificently and passionately played, the poise and emotion by a 21-year-old master is awe inspiring, and the physicality, just try and follow his hand movements. The music is incomparable and testifies to the genius already present in the young Gutierrez. No wonder he is a desired and favored performer around the world, and will forever be my favorite pianist. The music will move you just as it moved the audience to continue their applause until Horacio honored them with an impromptu encore, I myself felt like standing and adding to the applause.
A great pianist. A musician. Another world of interpretation. I remember his Rachmaninoff's concertos performance. Another age of pianism. Thank you a lot.
I was v young when first I heard him (Radio broadcast). He was playing Tchaikovsky one and a bass string broke.I have since heard more. Formidable control! Thank you both ! I hpe the Maestro is well :)
@ thanks! I read it! Always interesting to watch some Tchaikovsky competition videos because it is big and no so many videos are available from the older days. Only some fragments!
Horacio Gutiérrez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1948. His mother was his first piano teacher, and was herself an accomplished pianist. His first formal teacher was César Pérez Sentenat. Gutiérrez began performing before audiences at four years of age, and at 11, performed as soloist with the Havana Symphony playing Haydn's D major concerto. When Fidel Castro gained control of Cuba in 1959 the family decided to leave the country. They moved to the United States in 1961, when he was 13, and studied in Los Angeles with Sergei Tarnowsky, Vladimir Horowitz's first teacher in Kiev, and later at the Juilliard School under Adele Marcus. He later worked extensively with American pianist William Masselos, a pupil of Carl Friedberg, who himself had studied with Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms.

@ thank you, I didn’t know him, very interesting story.
Видимо, любитель дубасить и разбивать не один рояль.
