Tingyun is great, Bronya is still as good as she was at launch just overshadowed by Sparkle, Asta and Hanya are really good, and Yukong is really good but harder to fit into her niche as she usually needs a speed tuned team Maybe that's just cope though since I also have no 5 star harmony units lol
I just wanted to say…thank you. You are amazing. I just started playing the game a few days ago and went in completely blind. I somehow inherently understood some of the basics of the team building, but I admit I didn’t take skill point usage into account and found myself in trouble a few times. This video was very helpful. The funny thing, i started playing mainly because of the cool characters, Jing Yuan was my first main, then Blade, then Dan I L, the Jingliu. My teams were massive damage dealers but, not as good as they could be... and then once i pulled Ruan Mei (because of her beauty) and found out how AMAZINGLY STRONG she made my teams, i felt what Harmony actually were. Got Bronya, recently managed to build Tygyun, Asta and Hanya. Pela when i pulled Acheron. Now i have not one good team, but many solid teams and pieces for various situations. Amazing video, Nutty, consolidates in less than 40 minutes what took me so much time to realize. keep up the good work!
I think the only thing that might not age as well here is 1-2-1. This was mostly a product of not having Limited 5-star supports and having plenty of Limited 5-star DPS. In some cases, (like DoT) 2-1-1 is better. I definitely think 1 damage, 1 amplifier, 1 sustain, 1 flex is a more future proof concept. #nutnation
you can't build two dps per team even as a midgame player. It just doesnt happen. Hypercarry is eternal and way more approachable concept. If you are at point when you can build, say, 80\150 topaz and ratio at the same time, all power to you, and you probably dont need any advice. 1-2-1 is exactly a product of funneling all your resourses into carry, while having budget supports and half-assed gear for them. Double\flex teams (kafka, blade+jl, ratio+topaz, whatever comes next) are luxury for bored endgame players who had been farming relics for a year.
Super informative video, really glad I found it. I just started the game a few days ago and am absolutely loving it (coming from genshin, I started in patch 4.2). Hadn’t thought about skill point economy before, ty!!
Great video! You explain really well how you should think about team building instead of just telling to put 1 sustain 2 amplifiers and 1 damage dealer. With that said I kind of disagree that every unit is one of sustain, amplifier and damage dealer. In the future we are guaranteed to get more units like Topaz, Adveturine, Kafka and Black Swan who do things in multiple categories, so I think that especially moving forward it would be more beneficial to think that every unit provides some stats for your team in each of those areas. And then the goal is to get enough skill points and sustain to not die while getting the biggest number for your damage x amplification. For examples lets first look the traditional 1-2-1 team of Jingliu, Bronya, Pela, Luocha with this thinking: Jingliu adds 2 damage, Bronya amplifies damage by 2, Pela amplifies damage by 1, and Luocha gives the team 1 sustain. In total this team has 1 sustain and deals 2*(1+(2+1) = 8 damage. For another example lets look at the premier DOT team in Kafka, Black Swan, Ruan Mei and Huo huo: Kafka adds 1 damage and amplifies DOT by 1, Black swan adds 1 damage and amplifies all damage with def shred by 0.2, Ruan mei adds 0.4 damage trough breaks, amplifies all damage by 1 and adds 0.2 sustain with break delay, Huo huo adds no damage but adds 1 sustain and amplifies damage by 0.3 with energy refund and atk% on ult. In total this team would have 1.2 sustain and deal (1+1+0.4)*(1+(1+0.2+1+0.3)) = 8.4 damage. Of course the numbers are not realistic and are there just to make the point, but they are close enough that we can see how both teams get to relatively similar damage numbers. With this thinking we can also explain why a team with Ruan Mei and Welt and no traditional sustain can function: Ruan Mei adds 0.2 sustain form break and Welt another 0.2 from slows. In total the team would have 0.4 sustain which can be enough if you deal enough damage.
Just start HSR this week and I've been watching every video TH-cam will suggest to me regarding the new player experience and this was easily the best for explaining early teams- thank you. I had realized the Skill mechanic pretty early on, but I don't own any characters besides Lynx and Natasha that I'd consider skill positive. I now understand why some characters are so valuable.
This was a great video! I just started playing this summer and most of my characters are level 40 now and I was wondering if building up every pull is worth it. Thanks!
What do you think about star rail adding hard team checks into the game? like the latest story boss fight against aventurine, or MoC needed single target DPS and Pure Fiction strictly needing AOE? feels like the game expects too many teams built (hunt dps, dot dps team, follow up attack team, etc) all together, especially for an f2p player who cant really pull for every new character and it will take a few months to properly build teams for everything
it does take away alot of the fun i have playing when i have to spend a month farming to max lvl max trace full gear a character and then i go into MoC 12 or swarm disaster 5 or pure fiction 4 and i cant even clear the rewards like what was even the point of all that tedious mind numbing effort thats like a primary reason i prefer genshin atm bc my account is older i have dupes on characters and i dont have to worry about dps checks and then 3 months later the brand new 5 star is out to replace them
I guess my counterargument would be - how else do you do varied content, and how else do you give a use to different character archetypes? Before PF Erudition characters were basically useless because MoC focuses more on single-target damage. In a game like Star Rail the only way to do different gameplay styles is to design different game modes with different flavours of combat. And sure, building two MoC teams AND two PF teams AND two of these new Hunt game mode teams IS a lot of work... But it's not like they're taking away resources if you don't do it. If you had two teams that could 36 star MoC when PF came out and you couldn't get a single star in PF, you weren't actually losing anything - you still cleared MoC, and you still got all the same resources. Getting PF was a pure positive, it simply allowed you to get more resources if you wanted to build a PF team, if not you could still just focus MoC.
@@masterplusmargarita I think the issue here is less about varied content existing- I think that that's actually quite a good thing, to give more characters a niche to exist in. The issue is in how expensive and time consuming it is to BUILD these teams. As mentioned, it can take weeks to build a single character to even a useable state, let alone a good position. But especially if you're someone like me who hasn't played since launch, it can be insanely time consuming to build the two teams required for even ONE end-game mode, let alone six- And six is assuming you have two teams for each game mode every single time, which isn't necessarily reflective of reality.
@@tyinykThat's exactly how Hoyo wants it to be. Even going back to Genshin's release, their model is to put limits on important grinding to force players either to suck it up and wait or to spend money to recharge resources for grinding. If we had infinite energy resources then the grind would mostly be trivial; a decently built team could bust out 1 cycle of calyxes in 4-5 mins on auto. A player with a free weekend would probably be able to crank out a fully built character. But Hoyo wants money, and they can't always be dropping banners, so they get the hardcore grinders by getting them to recharge just to speed up the process, which they either buy jades to use to recharge or use their saved jades which will make them spend more on upcoming banners.
More on elemental coverage that is why silver wolf is such a must have charecter even when monsters don’t have any weakness to your time you can give it weaknesses
*during live build* "completely free, NO LUCK RELATED STUFF" *proceeds to show QQ the most luck based unit on the first screen* (I know.. not that kind of luck, but I thought it was funny) XD
Good video but I prefer Aventurine on that Acheron team. Has more consistent debuffs than Ruan Mei and makes you completely safe. Acheron doesn't need any break efficiency or speed because of her debuff ult gen and ignore weakness.
But what is better, vertical progression (like e2s1 acheron), or build a new half-assed team, like leaving acherong at e0s0 would allow you to grab at least two characters, ending with two average, but different teams? If you have two teams up and running, ofcourse.
24:31 you say Jingliu doesn't want attack buffing supports cuz she already does damage. Not really following the logic, DMG doesn't have diminishing returns like crit rate when I look at the HSR formulas. Am I missing something? Isn't a dmg buff on your dps character always a good thing, and that's what you're trying to scale? Are you just saying there's a threshold of damage that Jingliu is already well over where %dmg buff is better than +dmg buff?
I'm pretty certain he's specifically referring to buffs to ATK, not damage increases as a whole. From what I've seen, the HSR damage formula has a lot of multiplication going on, and stacking bonuses to a single multiplier is often less effective than increasing different multipliers at once. For example, if you have 150% in one category and 100% (neutral state) in all others, and add 30% to that one category, you get 180%. But if you instead add it to a different category, the result is 195% (150%*130%). These are crude numbers, but I hope they get the point across. Continuing to stack attack is less efficient than buffing her in other ways. Here's my thoughts on the situation (albeit as a relatively new player). Jingliu has huge attack increases already (in Spectral Transmigration state she gets bonus attack of almost double her base attack from draining ally hp when attacking), plus she's built to get lots of crits (40-50% crit rate free from the Spectral Transmigration state). She benefits more from allies with things like DMG% increases, DEF reduction on enemies, energy boosts for her ultimate, or speed for extra actions instead. You can also just use another damaging character instead of trying to boost her effectiveness, since she's already so effective at dealing damage. If you look at strong teams with her, you will find units like Bronya (extra actions and large DMG% from skill), Pela (large DEF shred on ult, plus Ice res shred on skill at E4 which is a different category), Blade (synergistic damage character), Tingyun (energy increase and DMG% from ult, while being a skill point positive support), or Ruan Mei (buffs to lots of things while being skill point positive). Two of the units are mostly chosen for how they improve Jingliu's attack rotation and give DMG%, two provide damage in alternative ways (DEF shred is very potent and a second damage character can equate to double damage), and Ruan Mei just seems really good.
What i dont understand is im late game and my char are bearly built and im overwhelmed my team atm is: Seele, Bronya, Tingyun and adventureine who do i build first and then second third and then forth cos im overwhelmed and dk where to start.
As a general rule, if you are having trouble surviving the stage, build your sustain, if you have trouble hitting the dps check for higher stars, build your DPS. Your two amplifiers, tingyun and bronya, both function more than well enough with low investment (+6 traces, with all of the ascension bonuses, +12 relics, level 70 ascended / level 70 lightcone). Your sustain doesn't need to be built at all after you start feeling good with survival.
hey nutty, i really like jingliu’s design and all but i can not decide whether to go for it or not cuz i know she had fallen off of the meta lately and i dont really like to spend jades on the characters who will not provide me good use in the future so i really could not decide, do you think she will still be able to 36 star the moc in the future?
she didnt. is 20% worse than acheron at same level of investment, but still a second best solo dps. technically DHIL burst is stronger, but JL gets free crit, has amazing SP economy, at any non-zero cycle scenario gets same numbers with way less investment.
my first team was Seele > Bronya > Silver Wolf > Bailu transitioned into Kafka > Black Swan > Bronya > Bailu into Acheron > Black Swan > Kafka > HuoHuo My account underwent a great swap.. however- i still pulled Sparkle to complete my Seele Team & after started working on a Phys Img team.. Clara > Dr Ratio > Robin > Aventurine
The only thing I hate about this game is that the artifact hunting is difficult, especially for supports. Unlike Genshin where you can just spam your resins into the domains, in HSR you have to go to Simulated Universe to get that perfect 2-Piece and its not even guaranteed.
This may sound like a dumb question but... is there a difference between pressing and holding the three attack buttons? I tested it out myself using only one character at a time but the attack damage was different every time. So does anyone know the point in why it gives us the option to press or hold down the buttons?
I think the dmg changes are just based on the characters stats, kit, relics and light cone and what enemies do. Did you still have stuff equipped? If you haven’t done it yet maybe try removing them and going back naked into a fight like in a low level calyx. Dan Heng gets buffs based on eidolons + kit. And if you crit that’s more dmg too. He hits different depending on what happens so maybe focus on characters that doesn’t change much damage wise like Natasha. All her buffs are more about healing. Idk what characters you used and you probably knew some or all that already but just in case. It’s the only thing I could think of that makes sense to me rn. Coz I feel like some ingame tutorial would bring it up. It’s probably just a visual effect of being held instead of a click/press. I kinda feel like checking it out for myself now too tho lol

honestly, i would love some type of webpage or discord bot where i could punch in what characters i have and it would spew out the best team comps
While this would be useful, it's so subject to how invested each given character is and what content you're doing that it would be incredibly complex.
That kind of takes the fun out of it though. It's a few steps further than seeing spreadsheets of damage percents on relic sets and stuff

@Millea314 OK tysm this will help a lot 🥰
Agree with everything but FMC, boy is a bot compared to a Fu Xuan with trend or Aventurine with Acheron.
hey nutty, i really like jingliu’s design and all but i can not decide whether to go for it or not cuz i know she had fallen off of the meta lately and i dont really like to spend jades on the characters who will not provide me good use in the future so i really could not decide, do you think she will still be able to 36 star the moc in the future?
she didnt.
is 20% worse than acheron at same level of investment, but still a second best solo dps. technically DHIL burst is stronger, but JL gets free crit, has amazing SP economy, at any non-zero cycle scenario gets same numbers with way less investment.
my first team was Seele > Bronya > Silver Wolf > Bailu
transitioned into Kafka > Black Swan > Bronya > Bailu
into Acheron > Black Swan > Kafka > HuoHuo
My account underwent a great swap.. however- i still pulled Sparkle to complete my Seele Team & after started working on a Phys Img team.. Clara > Dr Ratio > Robin > Aventurine

Do characters who add weaknesses to enemies also remove the resistances to those elements?
Yez
The only thing I hate about this game is that the artifact hunting is difficult, especially for supports. Unlike Genshin where you can just spam your resins into the domains, in HSR you have to go to Simulated Universe to get that perfect 2-Piece and its not even guaranteed.
I felt good when my mono quantum team is what he had as #5 😂
This may sound like a dumb question but... is there a difference between pressing and holding the three attack buttons?
@@coff1184 Ha, good shit dude. My dumbass didn't even think of stripping everything before battle... I gotta stop smoking w33d lmao. Wow I feel dumb lol. Thanks man. 😁👊
