i met an indian chief in northern canada. he said,"a lot of us indians complain about white people but im getting plumbing in my house next year and that's just great, especially in the winter I won't have to do my business in -40". There is loss of diversity but western culture spreads because it is a collection of wonderful technology more than anything. Its easy to romanticize a culture that we are not familiar with but if 20% of your kids die before they reach 2 years old and masses of people die in a bad growing season, western culture doesn't seem so bad and that is why it spreads.
It brings roads, access to medical professionals ,life to little Villages where you can buy the things that you need now, where before they probably have to travel some miles, but sadly, some that don't want to assimilate have to rape, kill, and extort from those who work hard to make everybody's life easier, like a tree falling in a very strategic place in the middle of the road, but a few truck drivers can't get together and move it themselves,no, the locals have to do it for you.... at a price. the scary part was when the guy said: " at least we don't rape the women like they do in that other area" and the police are definitely getting a little piece of that pie too, sadly

I worked in PNG for all of 2014 in the oilfield. Incredibly proud people but very poor. Their Government is incredibly corrupt. As an American I was absolutely respectful of the people and in turn they returned that respect 10 fold. The country itself is beautiful, thick canopy jungle with waterfalls. This is a nice documentary. Very original presents the situation as it is, with a funny commentator who made some few mistakes when explaining the names of places. From the content, it is clear that this video was shot before the 2012 General Elections because Mr Gerard Phillips was a candidate at that time. The road to Gembogl is also totally different now from what you can see in this video. Road works started in 2013. First 10 km to Mandime we completed and sealed by 2015. And today the Chinese are working on the road. Much has improved. Nevertheless, the video is great. One striking thing you see is that despite the daily hardships, struggles that people experience, they always smile and laugh.
"Before, we use spears and arrows for war and just pull them out of our bodies. It was a kind of sports. Now, we use machine guns and it's a bit more dangerous." Badassery level 101% pure and undiluted.
Seems like there are quite a bit of opportunities in underdeveloped countries, especially providing transportation, be it via road, air or water.. immagine if you'd have access in all three..
Thank you for this Doc. Now is the 21st century, still We humans never learn. Greed. But we seek for a better tomorrow. At least be fair, the basic equal distribution or even a transition to the so-called developing country are never been applied.
Gosh my beloved worked in Papua New Guinea in the oil fields that was in 1980s. The country has gold beautiful coral and natives who worked it well into beautiful "jewellery". Sad to ear the country has "developed" into this mess now.
I have no idea why there is an English translation for most parts of this video when most of the people are already talking in English. Quite condescending really. For those individuals in this video whose English may be slightly more challenging for individuals to decipher, subtitles would have been a much more useful option. A lot of the original character of the documentary is lost to a slightly comedic and slightly ridiculous voice translation which is attempting to emulate drama. .
Most likely because the original voice-over was in French -- right at the beginning of the video, you can see it's a Tony Comiti Production, a company based in Paris: fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Comiti_Productions
I was thinking a similar thing. I was like he didn't say "Quote" he said "Quote" like we cant hear them changing the gentlemen's words....Media, sheesh
I've got a lot of friends from PNG. Very nice guys, but violent when they've had a few drinks in them. Guess you've just gotta know your boundaries with them, and don't be near when they get wasted😂
Daniel Detweiler - The tree was not felled to block the road. PNG is a tropical country with high rainfall and landslides are common in the higlands. In this picture the tree that blocked the road is as result of the landslide that brought the tree with it. In such case those who live close by cut the tree and clear the road for passage but some fees are charged and collected from the road users for the labor put in. If the trees were felled intentionally to block the road, the police personell that were on the ground will be in action. Policeman looked on meaning the tree came onto the road by landslide or simply this is a stunt for the TV crew filming this.
It is the typical thing. Once they have been subtly invaded, they put the religious dogma there, take the natural resource and make certain the aboriginals stay in despair and ignorance while they slowly suffer and die.
+Cosmic They also get a nice state pension btw. I met a man from Papau New Guinea driving uber. He says they get a lot of state $$$ in exchange for their allegiance
Omg. The Lord is definitely looking over so many people all over the world. Inspite of the conditions so many seem happy. The tree in the road reminds me of the people of Nigeria and Ghana. Always thinking of a way to scam others. However they have families to support.
Big up to the truck driver do a honest day work for a honest day pay no crime in that but the native need to plant the land to be healthy than does box food so much beautiful land

Now, we use machine guns and it's a bit more dangerous."
Badassery level 101% pure and undiluted.
lawless lands ....... Lae is the financial capital .... what did I miss. I will agree it is damn dangerous but my experience is from the 90's :)
That's a Pro driver there!
Now, that is an angel.. Antawn.. Angel Antawn.. Doing God's work.
God’s work my ass
He's speaking English, so why was the narrator speaking on top of him using the same words he's using?
Not english, its Tok Pisan, or Pidgin (pigeon)English..
Kundiawa. A town lost in the middle of nowhere. That's where I live bro. So offensive 🙄 atleast it's more beautiful and safe than lae
Seems like there are quite a bit of opportunities in underdeveloped countries, especially providing transportation, be it via road, air or water.. immagine if you'd have access in all three..
aye, just pack a M16 rifle and some claymores around your hut and you will be golden :D
Great driving when u had to stop & tighten the chains holding the 2 machinery (cargoes) in place😎🙏
Amazing country great people
Thank you for this Doc. Now is the 21st century, still We humans never learn. Greed. But we seek for a better tomorrow. At least be fair, the basic equal distribution or even a transition to the so-called developing country are never been applied.
1200 US dollars a month and he have to work 240 hrs a month...that mean he made 5 dollars an hr.....
An Engineer in PNG earns US$1000 a month
Gosh my beloved worked in Papua New Guinea in the oil fields that was in 1980s. The country has gold beautiful coral and natives who worked it well into beautiful "jewellery". Sad to ear the country has "developed" into this mess now.
Hahaha mess? How many pll died from simple shit in the 80s oppose to now with a central system
"Natives"?
I often wonder if we are all in hell.
According to the bible? No, you're in the bottom of heaven.
West Papua is much much more better in many thing, just join us bro !!
Chery Chaplin free West Papua!
@@josephchandlerceniza3264 keep dreaming bro lol
I was like he didn't say "Quote" he said "Quote" like we cant hear them changing the gentlemen's words....Media, sheesh
subtitles?🙄 give me a break...who wants to read?
If you listen cleary the natives are speaking broken english which is sometimes incoherent.
It’s local Creole, not English, no one will understand it.
This country is really dangerous for foreigners. We always need to alert when visit for business. No joke.
I've got a lot of friends from PNG. Very nice guys, but violent when they've had a few drinks in them. Guess you've just gotta know your boundaries with them, and don't be near when they get wasted😂
I Don’t Know Shit But I Know A Lot About Dung
Absolute shit heads
😆😆😆😆
Maybe learn to build roads on top of big stones and gravel aswell as drainage pipes under road where there is water problems.
cut the tree down, obstruct road with tree then charge drivers to remove tree from road, this is a pretty ingenious business model :P
That is what the USA thieves do in a bigger scale
Daniel Detweiler - The tree was not felled to block the road. PNG is a tropical country with high rainfall and landslides are common in the higlands. In this picture the tree that blocked the road is as result of the landslide that brought the tree with it. In such case those who live close by cut the tree and clear the road for passage but some fees are charged and collected from the road users for the labor put in. If the trees were felled intentionally to block the road, the police personell that were on the ground will be in action. Policeman looked on meaning the tree came onto the road by landslide or simply this is a stunt for the TV crew filming this.
Very common in south america too
@@santiagogomez8552 just bring a chainsaw and a winch. Or an axe and some chains.
@Love'OF theMostHigh Exactly plus they made toll bridge out of the tree so if it wasn't planned to begin with then its certainly was after.
Nice videos. Dangerous roads tks.
This goverment is truly corrupt, road, school farming are basic needed of a country and govtn.cannot run well.
You think it’s easy to rule a country with over 800+ languages? A lot criminality and no taxes?!
...WOW...incredible documentary...kudos and best regards!!!!... # URock ...
The strange thing is that this country is a constitutional monarchy and the Monarch is queen Elizabeth 2
Parmenas Kim and they idolise prince charles like a god
That's Prince Philip and a tribe in Vanuatu
It is the typical thing. Once they have been subtly invaded, they put the religious dogma there, take the natural resource and make certain the aboriginals stay in despair and ignorance while they slowly suffer and die.
+Cosmic They also get a nice state pension btw. I met a man from Papau New Guinea driving uber. He says they get a lot of state $$$ in exchange for their allegiance
No we dont..thats full crap...we are a Christian Country
Omg. The Lord is definitely looking over so many people all over the world. Inspite of the conditions so many seem happy. The tree in the road reminds me of the people of Nigeria and Ghana. Always thinking of a way to scam others. However they have families to support.
That french guy who owns all the grocery stores and trucks should start a highway maintenance company.
Who would pay him if he did... ? Not the corrupt government.. no business there he’s better off with the supermarket
Big up to the truck driver do a honest day work for a honest day pay no crime in that but the native need to plant the land to be healthy than does box food so much beautiful land
In india its also same condition of roads and level of bandits also high 😩
Bullets solve those
Wow there was a nice view On top of the know where.
Even in a country whose government had made plenty of mistakes, and that after a colonial era where the rulers didn't care a whit about the people, PNG is progressing.
MrRJS27 I
this very good documentary video brother
This drug they chew is ruining their teeth so bad .
That is part of their beauty, must be Sweet their kisses.
They look worse than they are. They're just stained
What a shame. Such a beautiful island.
been there , most of the people are very kind , the government is very corrupt, bribes are common , when australia governed png it was 100% better
The people are corrupted too. Cut down a tree to trick the truckers into paying them. How can a society function with such sickening systems?
They all appear to be in good spirits leave em alone funny buggers all of them.
Port Morsby is the largest city, correct?
Yes
This is crazy...@35:15 that would be the same face I make looking down the side of that mountain 😲
