@@ArizonaGhostriders "Have Gun..." tried to be cultured. It was more of an acquired taste, which made Paladin more fun to watch, later in life, after I'd had more life experience and improved my understanding of history. He makes jokes I wouldn't've got, 20 or 30 years ago, before I acquainted myself with Archimedes or Plato. "Have Gun..." has legs, in that sense. It's fun to come back to, many years later, and watch it from an older person's perspective.
All that being said, Chuck Connors workin' an 1892 with one hand is iconic. Tall, strong man with that light "short rifle" is a lot of fun to watch. But I always go back to when the first Henry rifles came into use. Long, heavy rifle. More like the Sharps in that way. And I think they held more rounds.
When I see a Winchester lever action, I think 30-30. But I'm gonna check out what they were using for ammo in the 1892.

Awesome video! This reminds me of Jack Hinson, a man of means during the civil war who wanted to stay out of it..until union troops mistook his sons (who were hunting) for bushwhackers and killed them. They cut the heads off and planted them on his front gate..he went and got revenge by sniping union officers and NCOs who made supply runs up and down the river. You can still go to his cave today and look down over that river - how the heck he made those shots, beats me! But the union were pretty scared of this guy and assumes there was a whole guerrilla force in those hills. Rather than a single man. This is some rifle! Exciting times

Bill Dixon has always inspired me to become a better shot with a rifle. And Bill Hickok with cap & ball pistols. I have a nice Sharps in 45/70, and a fair collection of cap & ball pistols. It's something to score impressive shots with this older tech. because a lot of people seem to dismiss them when it comes to accuracy and lethality. I've always had the opinion that some of the sharpshooters back then where probably better than most realize these days. As had a friend who grew up dirt poor put it this way, "I had to learn to shoot. With dad working I had to hunt. Shoot more than 3 bullets and have no meat and I'd have to go cut a switch."

The Sharps rifle was among the more modern firearms traded in Japan, post Commodore Perry. Contrary to what Tom Cruise would have you believe, the Samurai took to modern firearms in exactly the same way they had taken to them in the 16th century, ergo they loved them. If 'The Last Samurai' had had any respect for historical accuracy, it would have shown Samurai fighting the new Imperial army from trenches and in lines, with mostly muzzle-loading rifles. The lucky ones would have had Snider-Enfields... or Sharps rifles!

Please make a model 1887 video clearing up the browning-Winchester lever action vs. pump action situation, the true 7 round capacity of the gun (not 5, not 6), and how modern longer shells with crimps have given it a bad reputation for reliability. I haven’t proven my theory yet, but I imagine when I order 2.5 inch shells or paper 2-3/4 shells mine will run fine with them.
    Love the videos.

Yeah, but not the recoil. You touch off a 45-120, even in black powder, it's much more severe than portrayed in the film.

@@frankw7266 even 45-70 with modern ammo like say the hornady rtx which are hot loads.. without a rubber backing it will seriously put a hurt on your shoulder after a few rounds.
