  • We decided to visit Spier Wine Farm as one of our first stops. We saw some owls in their bird enclosure, but unfortunately it was closed for the day. What really messed with my brain was the interactive sound sculptures which were formed 260 million years ago from fossilised volcanic ash. I still don’t quite understand how that works! Jenna Burchell, the artist, found 12 of them as she walked along this extinction horizon. Definitely worth a visit and will enchant young and old. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #spier

Absolutely amazing to see those rocks making sounds🤯! I wonder how long they've been there! I cycled through Spier once, about a quarter century ago, and can't recall seeing them.

They are certainly very intriguing. 🤔 If I remember correctly, the artist did the installation in 2018.

It really is amazing and we were super intrigued by the whole concept. And fortunately there are so many other things to see when one does visit this beautiful place. 🤩 🚗

Psalm 66:4 says that the earth will bow down worship and sing God's praises. It's so amazing because it's not just one pitch of sound it's different pitches really fascinating

What causes them to make a sound???? Could be aliens inside them yhooooo

This is above my level, but I found the following on spier.co.za: 'Each rock’s unique sound were generated from the raw electro-magnetic readings captured from beneath the rock’s original resting place. Embodying a place in time, the resulting sound sculpture sings of its creation and of the land wherein it has existed for millennia - connecting the listener in the present with the rock’s ancient significance.' 😁⛰️
