  • When we left Spier Wine Farm we headed to the House of JC le Roux in Devon Valley, Stellenbosch. JC le Roux is our favourite sparkling wine and has been for many years. It was great to visit them again after a long time. After searching for a way to enter the Paardeberg Nature Reserve we finally found out that it was not open to the public, but a private nature reserve. That was a real pity because I think the view from the top would've been awesome. Babylon's Peak was a huge stony outcrop which was very impressive to see! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #paardeberg #jcleroux

Beautiful Babylon's peak is that rock on a private wine cellar. Their wine are produced under Babylon's peak paardeberg Swartland. Very beautiful.

Yes it is. We saw the nature reserve on the map and were hoping to get in but we couldn't.

What camera mount do you use for filming your drives?

I mount my camera in a Joby and hold it by hand. 📱

Darn, this trip was jinxed. None of the reserves were accessible. I know it was still at a covid high period, but geez. I wish you guys will have more luck this year.

We still find that fairly often because some of the reserves are located on private property and the roads are either private or there are locked gates which obviously stop us from proceeding. These aren't always indicated on Google Maps or even other sources. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Because we love the backroads so much and go where few people go, this is a fairly regular occurrence for us, but we're all good with it. We still get to see amazing things and drive in nature for hours without seeing many other vehicles. That's enough of a win in our book! 🤩🚗

@@DustBugsTravel I start to see that this is both a blessing and a curse for South Africa. There's so many private reserves, which is great because that greatly increases the amount of land set aside for wildlife and native flora. The downside is like you said: they aren't all that available or accessible.
Here it is the other way around - mostly large state-owned reserves, protected areas and national parks. The upside is that everything is accessible and even forests outside of protected areas are open for the public to gather berries and mushrooms etc.
The downside is that they are fragmented and often far apart. Often to a point where larger animals like wisents, wolves or moose have to cross large distances across farmlands to migrate.

Are your wife shy or are you shy for your wife? We would like to see who is talking in the background.

I'm very proud of my wife and would love for her to appear in front of the camera with me. She has always been very camera-shy though and doesn't want to just yet, perhaps sometime in the future. Fingers crossed! 😁🤞🏻 For now, her voice will have to do. 😍
