I think it's a bit cool how Nintendo didn't confine themselves to one type of level for World 6. That final vertical mountain level is dope. Though I do think that NSMB Wii and NSMBU did the mountain world theme better.
Fun fact: nsmbds mountain world was originally the machine world at some point in develoupment. Make that with what you will especially when bowser reuses one of his attacks from hotel mario in the intro to help bowser jr steal the princess.
Level elements can also aid the feeling of a theme. For example, Bullet Bills are often used in Mountain levels, for instance. The elements in each level are also very random - skewers, firebars, lakitus, question block shenanagans, icy slopes. Suprisingly, there don't seem to be any Fuzzies, a stable of mountain and sky worlds. Same with Monty Moles, outside of the tank. Honestly, out of all of these the forest level feels the most out of place - the ? block stuff gives the level a haunted vibe to me, which is basically never in a mountain world.
Stuff like this is kinda why i love the original nsmb even if i think in some aspects (the star coins) arent as well desgined as later entries like its always very qjirky and experimental and also shows a lot of love to 3d mario its really cool
Honestly, World 6 feels like a sort of compilation of all the previous level themes to me. And considering it's USUALLY the last world before World 8 (unless you go to World 7 instead), I guess it makes a little sense?
this is it, you described the exact reasons why i love world 6 so much, its so WEIRD dude. the way this game mixes tilesets with backgrounds is so unique compared to the later nsmb games and thats in full effect with a lot of the levels in world 6 but that one beach level especially has such a comforting vibe to me, it feels like you just stumbled into a peaceful lil valley wedged between all the towering mountains and it probably has my favorite aesthetic in the game; im a fan of the regular mountain levels too even if they arent *too* special for the most part. also yeah shoutouts to the weird spiked ? blocks in the jungle level theyre such a silly inclusion
Ironic that the first game in NSMBDS is not only the first NSMB game, but also the most creative, using level designs and ideas that never come back again.
I wanted for these Levels to have names so I thought of some of them World 6: Dangerous Mountains 6-1: Blast Top 6-2: Up and Down Waters 6-Tower: Spiky Tip Tower 6-3: Evergreen Side 6-4: Tense Ledges 6-Tower2: Tall Toll Tower 6-5: Whirlpool Loops 6-6: Mountain Expedition 6-Castle: Obsta-Castle 6-A: Dusty Cracks 6-B: Way Cool
I get the feeling that they had unused levels that they reused for world 6 because they didn't have enough mountain level ideas or just ran out of time.
What I find especially weird is that world 3 had a couple sky themed levels that would feel more at home in world 6. They could’ve swapped those 2 for the beach and underwater levels in world 6
Mario bros ds came off the same track as Mario 64 and incorporated its elements which I feel are more fun in 2d but the newer entries are more linear given the bigger focus on multiplayer

Mountain world in NSMB DS is too cool tbh
World 6 in nsbw is in my top 3 worlds of that game

Well this was an era where Nintendo doesn’t use enemies or concepts from their olden days, but even then would’ve been a great opportunity.
5:38 You're supposed to use a Mini Mushroom to have it be not frustrating.
It really does feel like they had a bunch of leftover levels, and just threw them into World 6.
Stuff like this is kinda why i love the original nsmb even if i think in some aspects (the star coins) arent as well desgined as later entries like its always very qjirky and experimental and also shows a lot of love to 3d mario its really cool
I also think the music is much better than the successors
You missed out on a pun
World 6 is inconsixtent...
GET IT!
I actually think it’s cool they experimented to see what could work, still weird, but nonetheless cool, so good video from you!
Say what you will
But the world 6 map music is amazing
It has no right to SLAP in all 3 games it’s in.
World 6 feels like a world where the developers just put in unused levels that were supposed to be made for other worlds.
Honestly, World 6 feels like a sort of compilation of all the previous level themes to me. And considering it's USUALLY the last world before World 8 (unless you go to World 7 instead), I guess it makes a little sense?
5:40 You're. Supposed to use the mini mushroom for that.

awesome video, i subscribed. you pointed out something i had never noticed or heard people talk about before

World 6: Dangerous Mountains
6-1: Blast Top
6-2: Up and Down Waters
6-Tower: Spiky Tip Tower
6-3: Evergreen Side
6-4: Tense Ledges
6-Tower2: Tall Toll Tower
6-5: Whirlpool Loops
6-6: Mountain Expedition
6-Castle: Obsta-Castle
6-A: Dusty Cracks
6-B: Way Cool
Nice!

This really is one of the best new super mario bros videos I've ever seen, I really liked it :)
To be fair world 2 has grass themed level
Also world 8 also has two towers
And fun fact new donk city used to
Gotta be a glitch or they have less funding
Or its getting crazier as you progress it’s difficulty
But its all of the above with kamek’s magic powers
Great video. Never realized this. Can remember that this always my least favorite world in the game
I never really cared about how weird the level design about this game world six
0:19
how come?

The only world that hasn't been referenced in world 6 is world 1, however it was referenced in world 7
6-2 and 6-3 was supposed to be in world 2 and 4 in the beta of new super mario bros
Hey Golden, if you see this, could you elaborate on why you hate New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe?
no l prefer nsmb2 on the 3ds that came out back in 2012 and I like nsmb2 very much better version
You ruined Snailicorns for me 😢
Why is New Super Mario Bros U. Deluxe bad to you and why it should not exist, hm?
there are so many completely nonsensical sentences throughout this video
