Lighter fluid is my go to cleaner; it cleans all of the surfaces and harms none of them, the fluid evaporates quickly. Vintage guitar cleaning is often done with lighter fluid because it does not harm the finish, which is something you never want to do on any guitar, especially the vintage ones. If it’s good enough for that application, it’s good enough for an SAK.
Use isopropyl alcohol instead of Goo Gone. It will remove most stickiness and sterilize at the same time. It will evaporate, so drying is not necessary.
Hey Doc. your videos are always so informative and helpful. I've been following your channel for a while now, and they've been a game-changer for me. Could you please consider doing a video on "How to Clean Basic Pocketknives"? I think it would be incredibly useful for many of us who want to keep our tools in top shape. Keep up the great work!
great instruction- sadly many of my most carried SAKs have been thru the washing machine. I ten open them up and put them in the sun to dry. After that a little oil and im ready to go
a brush can scuff up the knife, giving it microscratches. auto detailers have tips and tricks that may help in cleaning, such as patting dry with microfiber cloth, not rubbing or scrubbing which may contribute more scratches. if you have access to one, an ultrasonic cleaner may be useful. in cleaning it is better to start with the least aggressive approach to minimise more dings and scratches. the goo gone and soaking it in dish liquid is good advice, however.

You are very kind. Thanks for watching! Sure, I will do a video in the near future. Thanks.
Yo 10k dude congrats man
Thank you! 😃 Appreciate it!
Very good 👍. I’ll be cleaning up an old Climber I bought at a flea market. Great info
Thanks so much for watching! All the best with it!
Very thorough job. I like to use virgin olive oil. If I really have to polish, I would use silver wear polish. Excellent job.
Thanks! I do have Silver polish but never tried it on the SAKs. Will see if there is a difference in results.
Hey there! Did you end up doing that sharpen / scizzors sharpening video? Thank you!
Not yet!

Have they been through the washing machine by accident or on purpose?
by accident- but so far it has worked out

Oops. Ok! Thanks for sharing!
Sister tooth brush 🪥😂
That would work too.

@@iblackfeathersFair enough on the microscratches! Thanks for your tips.
Use an ultrasonic cleaner, then use a toothbrush, followed by commpresed air. Done.
Dry completely with the scales on? Even a blow dryer does not reach the tightly closed scales.
@jandegraaf5411 Fair enough. Pop off the scales too. Thanks for your comment!
The Knife Doctor uses Rem Oil and so do I.
