That interior is just killing this for me. SYNC 3, portrait style screen, nothing but plastics, no stitch, etc. this just doesn’t feel like $60k vehicle.
These STs are loaded with tech though even on the standard models. Auto hold it worth its weight in gold if you do alot of stop and go traffic. Dont have to hold the brakes. Button controlled Collapsible side mirrors if you get in front of the guy with the HIDs at night. ST logo puddle lamps at night, Side door keypad , lane assist, 360 camera. Power for days... this thing moves stock. I own one and it is def worth 60K compared to other crap Ive looked at. The power alone is night and day over anything else out there. With that 10 speed auto in sport mode when you floor it it doesnt drive like an SUV, it feels like a sports car
I just bought that same ST and upgraded my exhaust system/added a cold air intake and a Whipple intercooler....last week I added the Raptor body kit....it looks pretty neat
Ford can really upgrade their interior layout, material and design compared to other companies when it comes to a 60+k car. The Genesis Gv70-80 is a mark for interior.

When I first got it my son and I will pulled over figuring out the NAV one day in Cape May NJ and someone blew by us parked. When I turned on the headlights he pulled over immediately thinking I was a cop.
So crazy they haven't addressed the laggy animation in the drive cluster and that it is still running SYNC 3 when the Bronco, F150, and Escape have been using SYNC 4 for awhile now.

For SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 upgrades, for example, you had to replace your infotainment and GPS antenna for SYNC 3 to work. The good news is that the new Google Android Auto infotainment system will be in the 2024 Explorer.

The ST does have a good blend of power, function, and capability. It is perhaps the only Explorer that seems to state a solid reason for purchase against most of the competition. But for $62K...Ford could've at least thrown in a variation of the new interior found on the Chinese-market variants. Instead, we're stuck with an Explorer that has an interior that is not representative of the price. And if I heard correctly, there were still options left to pile on? Geez! Yes, this is faster than the 5.7L Durango, but not the close-in-price Durango 392.
The refresh should come later this year, very similar to the Chinese Explorer. The 2023 Escape refresh has the updated design language, Explorer will follow soon.
my only gripe with my wife's ST is..... quality. my god that thing spends a lot of time broken, which is unfortunate because it's great value. if it breaks again i'll sell it.
How can SYNC 3 not have wireless Android Auto/Apple car play stuff? It's 2024! I've used middle of the road rental cars that have it. The 10.1 inch screen is ridiculous looking as well. Why not make it more landscape?

Man these prices are getting out of hand, for 60k should be nothing but LEDs and a way better interior. And charging extra for 360 cameras in 2023 it's excessive when you see the competition make it standard equipment since the mid trims.
We just traded our 2019 Sport for a 2023 ST. I really think the rear of the old ones looked better. The new ones look pretty plain. I also think the engine seems to make more noise than the old 3.5. I also wish it had the big screen like my new F-150, but other than that I love it.

Meanwhile our explorer is still stuck on the old version of Sync that requires you to plug the phone in for Carplay.
American automakers sure know how to disappoint. Explorer has power but lacks refinement, Cherokee has refinement but lacks power...and I don't even know where GM is with their grocery getters. Though I don't want a luxury vehicle, for the price...I'm seriously considering an X5 or MDX.
durango 392 is slightly faster but less other amenities that still make this win also u didnt use sport mode in your testing which is a game changer on that 10 speed
Yep and a $700 performance tune octane 93 is what I went with. Upgrades the explorer ST to 500HP with over 500 Torque. I clocked 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds as my fastest time after the tune. Mine is a 2022. Smokes the 392 and has way more features. Dealerships at least around where I live still trying to get like 80 to 95k for the 392 Durango.
@K Gregory I did the same to my 2021. 93 tune, whipple intercooler, full exhaust, and some other stuff and boy she is FAST! I'm running 4.0 to 4.1 0-60 as well. If you run it on e85 it gets even more crazy. The ST can hang with Trackhawks if done right!

My in-laws just bought one and I see the front camera, but we cannot manage to turn on 360° system. Any suggestions on how to turn that feature on? dealership says that Ford removed the 360° for the ST 2023...
I think the fake exhaust tips kind of suck too! If you check them out the exhaust doesn't come out of the four tips you see out back. There are actually holes underneath those tips where it comes out. Pretty cheesy if you ask me.
It is done as a precaution. The previous Explorer had a carbon monoxide intrusion recall. As part of the carbon monoxide intrusion recall on Police Interceptors the exhaust tips were straight and cut off then new turn downs were welded on. The idea is that the turn downs aim the exhaust into the airflow under the vehicle and will be blown further away before the gasses have a chance to enter through the liftgate.
I have a question. At 60 mph how long does it take to get up to 90 I was passing somebody on a two lane actually two cars and the second car started speeding up and then there was a car coming at me so I had to lay on the gas and the second car behind the first one coming at me was a police officer. I had no idea I was going that fast. I was just driving the new 2023 as a loaner while my car was getting fixed. It surely did not feel like I was going that fast.
If your led lights crap out, you have to replace the entire assembly. Instead of a $13 bulb, your stuck paying over $200. What are we really pushing for when it comes to advancements?
They reallt hate tuners. They could have just put a standard truck tuned 3.5 and had 400 hp. But they know tuners can get 800 out that puppy for 8 grand.

@@kevinW826 I can’t speak to the pathfinder but I have driven the new pilot and explorer st. And the pilot is sluggish compared to the ST. Just not fun to drive in my opinion. But they have pretty comparable interiors. The ST also offers lots of potential to increase HP If that’s your thing. I’ve seen some impressive builds and times. That’s just not the market for the pilot.
We got rid of our 2020 explorer st due to so many dang problems! That thing was the most unreliable vehicle we’ve ever had. Ford really messed up quality the last few years. However, my 2021 Raptor is a beast!
2020 and 2021 were bad years for the Explorer. Switching the assembly plant from KC to Chicago is what did it and COVID didn't help them much either while they were working out operational issues at the plant.

LEDs will outlast the car in most cases, if it's electronic failure the pcb can be replaced.
